Subject: RE: BS: Red Bull Energy Drink - Anybody tried it From: Jeri Date: 02 Jul 04 - 09:55 AM JWB: "Another triumph of capitalistic marketing!" Yep. I'll wager the commercials for Red Bull aren't nearly as entertaining as they've been for other substances in the past. Someone driving a brightly painted wagon into a town and hawking their 'medicine' (AKA 'snake oil') personally was probably a lot more fun. I've never tried it, but I've wondered what it tasted like. Over-the-counter 'male enhancement' thingies seem to be quite popular too. Red Bull is probably more likely to make you stay up all night though. |
Subject: RE: BS: Red Bull Energy Drink - Anybody tried it From: Strollin' Johnny Date: 02 Jul 04 - 08:56 AM Haven't got the energy to open the can. BTW, shouldn't the stuff that comes from a cow be called bovine, not taurine? Mind you, people who can't spell sulphur properly are capable of anything! :0 |
Subject: RE: BS: Red Bull Energy Drink - Anybody tried it From: Maryrrf Date: 02 Jul 04 - 08:38 AM It seems like everybody has been aware of this drink except for me. I'll try a can this weekend and let you know if it gives me a burst of energy. A lady I know says one can in the morning energizes her all day! I guess I'm grasping at straws! |
Subject: RE: BS: Red Bull Energy Drink - Anybody tried it From: Scabby Douglas Date: 02 Jul 04 - 05:22 AM There are a number of similar beverages available in the UK. None of them tastes all that delicious. The only time I find it beneficial is when occasionally driving longer distances, late in the evening. Every now and again, I have been known to become drowsy while driving. Keeping a cup of coffee on the go, can be impractical and dangerous in a car travelling at high speed. Red Bull (and similar) does give me a lift, and keeps me alert until I can get to a point where I can safely pull over. It may be psychological, it may be that it tastes pretty foul, I don't know. But it does wake me up. I don't think it gives me any energy though - it just wakes me up. I tried caffeine tablets, and they don't work for me. |
Subject: RE: BS: Red Bull Energy Drink - Anybody tried it From: el ted Date: 02 Jul 04 - 04:03 AM Tried it along with a dozen other energy drinks as an energy boost whilst moutain biking. It gives you a mad 20minute burst of hyper activity, that's all. If you want a slow energy release drink stick to Lucozade sport. |
Subject: RE: BS: Red Bull Energy Drink - Anybody tried it From: Cluin Date: 02 Jul 04 - 03:16 AM Tried it, yes. Seem to recall I didn't mind it the first time, though I didn't like it much either. The way I tried it was in a Jäger Bomb... an ounce & a half of colder-than-ice Jägermeister in about 5 ounces of Red Bull. Had too many of them one night last summer (several people were buying rounds) and paid the price in a big messy way at sacktime. Now I can't even stand the smell of the stuff, neither the Red Bull or the Jägermeister. Feckin' poison, both of `em. |
Subject: RE: BS: Red Bull Energy Drink - Anybody tried it From: JWB Date: 02 Jul 04 - 01:02 AM What I'm curious about is why someone would pay US$2.00 for 8 oz. of sugared caffeinated water. I think it must be a style thing. Another triumph of capitalistic marketing! |
Subject: RE: BS: Red Bull Energy Drink - Anybody tried it From: Rt Revd Sir jOhn from Hull Date: 02 Jul 04 - 12:44 AM i believe it John, if you have [or think you might have [family history etc] any sort of heart problem, blood pressure etc, then keep right away from this stuff, its just fizzy sugary water, loaded with caffeine. |
Subject: RE: BS: Red Bull Energy Drink - Anybody tried it From: John Hindsill Date: 01 Jul 04 - 11:13 PM I don't recommend using those types of drinks frequently. We had a kitchen remodeler drop dead on the job from a massive heart attack at our house. On the counter he was demolishing was a half empty (or half full, if you're an optimist) energy drink, and an empty bottle. True, he was overweight and ruddy complected, but I don't believe those drinks did him any good. Hand to heart, this is a true occurance. ---John |

Subject: RE: BS: Red Bull Energy Drink - Anybody tried it From: GUEST Date: 01 Jul 04 - 09:16 PM Under the protective cloak of anonymity I will truthfully confess that yes, I have drunk lots of Red Bull, especially since they've come out with a no-cal formula? Why did I start? It sounded cool and energizing. Results? Tastes kind of like thinned-out cough syrup, but bearable if you really want to look cool. It does quench my thirst, though. I'd say one overpriced can compares reasonably well with one 8-oz. cup of, let's say instant, caffeine coffee in humongous energy power. And that's the truth! |
Subject: RE: BS: Red Bull Energy Drink - Anybody tried it From: Gray D Date: 01 Jul 04 - 07:27 PM So I googled and found:- Taurine is a non-essential sulfur-containing amino acid that functions with glycine and gamma-aminobutyric acid as a neuroinhibitory transmitter. While taurine does not have a genetic codon and is not incorporated into proteins and enzymes, it does play an important role in bile acid metabolism. Taurine is incorporated into one of the most abundant bile acids, chenodeoxychloic acid where it serves to emulsify dietary lipids in the intestine, promoting digestion. Blimey! Not that I'd trust an author who couldn't spell "sulphur" properly, of course. Gray D |
Subject: RE: BS: Red Bull Energy Drink - Anybody tried it From: GUEST,london Date: 01 Jul 04 - 05:32 PM I drank this for years, until as a vegetarian, I found out it wasn't called Red Bull for nothing. It contains Taurine which comes from cows insides. Any veggies out there take note. |
Subject: RE: BS: Red Bull Energy Drink - Anybody tried it From: Maryrrf Date: 01 Jul 04 - 05:20 PM Well, I think I will get a can and try it just to satisfy my curiosity. |
Subject: RE: BS: Red Bull Energy Drink - Anybody tried it From: Mr Red Date: 01 Jul 04 - 04:26 PM used to drink it when I played badminton - not sure it did anything positive. I found that drinking cider and playing gave me a headache - something to do with the nature of the way energy is expended in short bursts. Not as bad dancing but then there is no way I will drink Red Bull at a ceilidh. |
Subject: RE: BS: Red Bull Energy Drink - Anybody tried it From: Don Firth Date: 01 Jul 04 - 04:17 PM The trick to making a fortune is to invent or mix up something that is cheap to make and completely useless, set the price by multipling the cost of manufacturing it by a factor of 1,000, then convince the world that it can't get along without it. There are eleventy-umpteen such products on the market (by actual count). I rarely drink soft drinks, for example (unless it has a shot of rum or somethng in it). If I'm thirsty, I prefer water, or sometimes fruit juice (made from real fruit). I go along with the sage who said, "I'll drink Coca Cola when and only when I find a fresh stream of it flowing down from the mountains." Red Bull? Yeah, bull! Don Firth |

Subject: BS: Red Bull Energy Drink - Anybody tried it From: Maryrrf Date: 01 Jul 04 - 03:36 PM I thought this was just some kind of high calorie drink (like I would need that - not!). But somebody at work was telling me that it's great - really gives you energy, and said that she lost weight by drinking it. Is it safe? Does it work? She said it made her more "mentally alert" during the day and I could do with some alertness! |
