BBQ request
I have had a request from Dave Longden who will be doing the BBQ.
He will be doing the BBQ from about 3 to 5 in the afternoon.
I think the cost is about £3. However he would like to know as much as possible, who want to partake of the BBQ, so that he can ensure that he has enough food. Those people who reserve their BBQ will get preference over people that haven't booked. So if you can indicate your requirement, that would help tremendously.

2 tunes available for practice
I have just received 2 tunes from Liam Robinson in the form of a PDF file for those that want to get on learning.

Astley's Ride in D Major
Granfathers in D Major

So anybody wanting them, can you please PM me with your e-mail address and I will forward the file to you.

Allan Taylor Concert in the evening

Tickets are selling very well for the above concert, so if you intend to come to that, but haven't already reserved your tickets, then don't leave it too long.

Cheers
Les Worrall

ooh er, people remember me - well, there's only one thing worse than being talked about...
For a nice set, how about Flowers of Edinburgh (G) then Soldier's Joy and Staten Island (both D) Very happy and bouncy.
Then, for fans of A, the Mason's Apron and Atholl Highlanders.
Plus any one of about a million more, and besides, the real fun of a session like Faldingworth is that you're likely to hear toons wot you've never heard before.
Look forward to seeing and hearing you all.
Lawrie

Ta for the compliment, GS, when did you last get your hearing tested, lol?! I am hoping to make the session but can't make George's gig, unfortunately. He does some brilliant songs.

Ta, Villan, re the tunes. Would like the files. I know quite a few tunes but am always keen to learn new ones.

Just realised that Bloke in the corner could be the man with the most harmonicas ever who used to play at Barton when we went. Hello, if so, Bloke in the Corner, long time no see!
Villan, hope your gig with George goes well. He is a great performer and has some lovely songs. Sorry we can't make it but I know it will be a good gig. Looking forward to Allan Taylor. I love his songs.

I have reserved your tickets for George Papavgeris & Duncan McFarlane with Anne Brivonese on Saturday May 17th.
Just thought I could talk you into seeing Allan Taylor as well :-) You just go and do your work and don't worry as we will have a super time listening to Allan. :-)

See you on May 17th

Good to see that you will be there Lawrie (all being well).

Tim, glad to see you still want your tickets for the Allan Taylor Concert on the evening reserved.

So what would be 6 good tunes, that less savvy session players could learn in time for the event, Lawrie (or anybody else) ?

I expect to be there, barring unforeseen things. I enjoyed myself last time, and it's always good to play with new musicians. For Rockhen, I reckon pretty much any traditional tune will be ok, jigs, reels, waltzes, etc. and they even let old gits like me sing the odd song...ok, don't say it, all my songs sound odd when I sing them...
Regards
Lawrie

I am not a regular session player, although I have been to one or two. As it is not a regular established session, could Liam suggest maybe a handful of tunes, or pairs or tunes that could be included within the session? Including the key and even suggestions as to the version, (a link to the notes and/or sound file would be fantastic!)It would mean that those who do not know many or even, any, tunes, could learn them before and join in with a few, at least. I accept that this is maybe not the norm, but, I think it would involve more people and add to the session.
It is just a suggestion...

Liam Robinson will be the Master of Ceremonies.
He will cater for slow sessions and more advanced, so all are welcome (piano's included :-)).
If anybody wants to contact him, please PM me and I will give you his telephone number.

The people that were in charge of it, just became too old to handle it anymore and unfortunately, as is often the case, nobody around to pick up the pieces and run with it.
So yes, too popular and too much to organise Tim.
There are signs of new people taking an interest in the Memorial Hall, but it has to be seen if they are willing to take on such an onerous responsibilty.
What is a shame, was that the money they made went towards helping the churches and Memorial Hall to keep their heads above water.
The only thing that the Memorial Hall makes anything on now is the concerts.
What they made in those 2 weeks of the scarecrow event where they had thousands of people visiting the village was generally sufficient to maintain the above buildings.
I would imagine, that if the concerts didn't go ahead, you could kiss goodbye to the Memorial Hall to some extent.
Even the Post Office has closed.

Got the makings of a song me thinks.

Errrr was the scarecrow thing too popular or too much to organise?
We went a couple of times with the grandbrat and it was lovely day out just for that and then there was great music to listen to as well.

Not trying to do that John.
Just seeing whether there was an interest.
Its in the diary and will happen, whoever wants to come along.
I am actually doing this on bahalf and at the request of Dave Longden, not myself. It has nothing to do with the concert in the evening. Its more to do with the old scarecrow event that doesn't happen any more and the fact that the villagers enjoyed the previous sessions. Trust me for trying to help eh.
i am chilled. :-)

Relax Les. It will happen. Sessions are informal gatherings. You don't book musicians and you certainly don't book the audience! Take a Chill-Pill, man! :-)

The list builds slowly.
However there appears to be enough interest to make it happen, so can those that would like to be part of it, please put it in your diary.
Looking forward to it already.
