Hmm, I think Yorkshire alone might be too small an area. Maybe if i extended it to THE WHOLE WORLD, i might be more correct. NE1 agree. Half you lot who 'ave replied say your a yorkie who is mad, and the other half are from other places miles away,

Kc

Greyeyes:
In fact the pond (moonrakers pond) is in Devizes where our brother Mudcat The Popular Halfwit lives.
Cheers,
Larry - (Devizes was also the stomping grounds (quiet litterally) of the famous village idiot, Jobber Brown. Jobber, whoe's exploits have gone down in folk history - flashing the Bath bus, to which one of the Wiltshire matrons replied... " Ehow Jobber, Ef tha's all ye've got, yew kin just put et awowy!" Please everyone, donate to the Village Idiots of the British Illes Irealnd and Tristam De Cuna Historic Fund and Preservation Guild, soon to be organised...

My ancient ancestors used to live there, and my great great great grandmother spent the last 12 years of her life in a lunatic asylum, does that mean anything??

Hang on! Some time back we trawled through the Three Wise Men of Gotham (Notts) where one of my great-grannys came from. Now, with that heritage, (which includes a moonraking story among many others), another granny reputedly born in Halifax (no proof, but she definitely WAS born) of Irish stock, and with me, Derbyshire born, living in Yorkshire for 13 years - will I be mad enough? Does the fact that I can usually understand a Yorkshire dialect help?

Andrea

Derbyshire folk also lay claim to "strong i'th'arm and wick i'th'ead". "Wick" means "quick" - so there!

I have some ancestors that hailed from near Doncaster - Tick Hill & Theddingworth. Born in 18 aughts, must have left 1830's or so. Does that count? I don't know about mad, but definately weird.

When a Yorkshireman admits to madness, it is meiosis.

When a Lancastrian calls a Yorkshireman mad, it's WAR!

Lancastrians live, shrouded in mist and rain, on the distaff side of the Pennines. They can't help it, poor things!

The White Rose for ever!!! ;-)

I was born in Pudsey (Where t'ducks fly backways on and they rake t'moon out o' t'pond!), but my birth certificate shows not only my mother's and father's name (thus scotching THAT rumour) but the stamp of the "Registration District of Wharfedale". So, not only a Yorkie, but a Dalesman.

The Lady Elizabeth was born in Halifax (District of Calderdale), but we met in London, and we have lived the 30 years of our married life in Essex or thereabouts.

We insisted on writing to our relations in the West Riding of Yorkshire long after bureaucrats decreed that it should be conflated to West Yorkshire. As both our children were girls, we didn't bother going back for the births, as neither was likely to play cricket.

You can take the Yorkie out of the county, but not the county out of the Yorkie.

Mad - maybe, but happy mad.

Maggie and Les - both from Yorkshire - both mad. Mrs Duck's right - you must be mad to leave Yorkshire. Come to Whitby at New Year and see Yorkshire at its maddest.

Geoff and Mrs Duck even have a daughter called Maddy. How mad can you get?

Les

I like Scarboro. We have a friend who lives there. Born in Scalby. D'ye know the Indigo Alley pub or the Citrus Cafe? We went there last summer. Rode the train out to North Bay, had a drink at the pub and took the bus back to South Bay. Had a very good time. Probably be back next summer.
The Yorkies are mad but it's a fun madness.

I'm just an adopted Yorkshire lass - but we Geordies are even madder!

I presume loup means jump or leap? And does ling mean heather? So is a ling louper someone who goes fell walking???

Just a wild guess.
