Just a slight deviation - the gathering at the Jug is ON and will take place on the weekend before Spring bank which I think makes it 24th May 2002. We are in the diary and hopefully we will have the marquee again . I know it is bound to clash with someone but that will always be the case but I hope to see as many of you from all over the UK and beyond as possible!!

Actually, Noreen, considering that the Bedfordshire Ouse is notorious for flooding Lakes of Pontchartrain is a pretty appropriate tune:

So fare thee well, my mudcat girl, since its you I have to lose
You were swept away, on a frosty day, on the banks of the Bedfordshire Ouse

Then I kissed her little sister
And forgot my Mudcat girl!

Love the song, Matthew! Multipart harmonies to the Lakes of Pontchartrain- or what tune did you have in mind?

I said, my pretty mudcat girl, the indoor camping's good
But if it weren't for the alligators I'd sleep out in the wood...

Stony sounds great for second weekend in February. Noreen, we can form a convoy down the A5, picking up Llanfair along the way (if she wants). Now I will really have to warn my little brother that his sheltered life in Stony is about to be very rudely disturbed. (NB Must also tell him to hide those sheep!)

A Song for the Gathering

It was on one February evening when frost lay all around,
I walked through Stony Statford, as snow fell to the ground.
I was seeking for a 'Cat house, some contentment for to find,
And music, joy, and laughter to ease my lonely mind.

I called in at the House of York, and there it did me please
To hear sounds of voices singing in sweetest harmonies.
The ale was freely flowing; with glasses raised on high
The Mudcatters were drinking to the one and only Dai.

So fill your glasses to the brim, and let us make a toast
To that scion of statistics, our gentle bard and host.
And if you're tired of wandering along old Watling Street,
Call at the Cock Inn, or the Bull, where music and friends meet.

Count me in as a definite. Dai do PM me, I can't help much with organisation but will try what I can.

Just caught up with this now I've got back in- great idea, Dai. I can get onto Watling Street half a mile from my cottage, and it'll take me all the way there! :0)

2nd weekend in Feb (8th -10th) would be good as it's followed by half term.

Suggest you start a new thread with current proposal and assess interest. Bron (Llanfair) would be the person to talk to about the Llanstock experience, I'll e-mail her in case she's having probs getting into mudcat. Some of us can get in but are cookieless for the time being, so can't use PMs.

Noreen

YHA Gathering 2002 has died a death I think.

Long live Stoney Stratford.

No rush as yet to book YHA 2003 if that is what is wanted although YHA advise the sooner the booking the greater the choice. EG 50% of hostels are booked for New Year 2002/2003.

Second w/e in Feb is hardly prime time though.

Really only Langdale and Llangollen are suitable but I have been known to be wrong :0)

Will post again under new thread when Stoney Stratford sorted. Cheers John

FYI, indoor camping is fine at York House. I've already cleared it with 'mah man'... There are numerous hotels and guest houses in town should anyone be feeling particularly flush, and a limited number of people could be put up in my house...

Stony Stratford has a community building called York House. At one time it was a boarding school but is now used for various events.

I've spoken to the guy in charge, and discovered to my (grin) amazement that he's also the guy in charge of our local folk festival. He's quite enthusiastic about the possiblity of a mudcat gathering on his home turf.

There's a large field out the back on which tents and campers/vans can be put. The building has 2 floors and can accommodate an indeterminate number of adults for sleeping.

There are facilities to erect a bar if appropriate or required (ROFL) and one of the local landlords I may have met once or twice would be more than happy to help us out.

It would appear that the second and fourth weekends in Feb 2002 are available at the moment, awaiting confirmation on that though.

Is this a goer? I can secure the place for a given date with a phone call, cost will be 'negotiable' *ahem* but of the order of £100 for the saturday and sunday. Could I please have any feedback and comments?

Shuddering at the thought of a possible trip 'up North', can we meet either side and or somewhere in the middle of Offas Dyke? I more or less live right smack bang right on the edge of the border (the Offas Dyke)..

So, what's the general plans... I've kind of lost the plans... (no comment, I lost the plot a long time ago)

Feb 2003 I feel that we do need to book up now and, as long as it is in early/mid Feb and up north, I'm sure that the deposit would not be at risk! I suggest Geordie Broon goes for it! Who else would be interested? Would it be worth starting a new thread to record interest in that?
Feb 2002 If we cannot get a venue up north in Feb this winter, I suggest that we wait until The one and only Dai has all the info on the possibility down south. Then we can start a new thread on that to see if there is enough interest to make it viable!
May 2002 We could still go to The Jug, as suggested by Mrs Duck. But where is The Jug and is there a specific date yet?

Swing low sweet Chariot ...

hehehehehehehehehehehehehahahahahahahahahahahahahahagiggle!

After all this giggling I've quite lost the plot!

( Deep breath ) Early January is too close to new years for a lot of folk. Any later brings indoor camping into doubt.

I think we have to decide if we want a gathering before the end of May.

If not, do we wait to find out what's happening at the Jug, or decide on an alternative as soon as possible?
