We've also arranged a waltz for Weeping Sad and Lonely. In Gone With the Wind, it's described as a waltz, and it's not, so we made it into one, and it's pretty nice. we just call it Scarlett's waltz. (oops, too much red wine tonight. Ah well, a girl's gotta unwind sometimes.) |

From: Jeri Date: 23 Sep 00 - 11:51 AM Marion, probably more than half of the tunes named here (including the Carolan pieces and Ashoken Farewell) weren't actually written as waltzes. I think the rules are if the tune can be played so people can waltz to it, it counts. Try Empty Wallet Waltz (haven't learned it myself) or Southwind (AKA An Ghaoth Aneas), a beautiful slow air that makes a beautiful waltz when speeded up a bit. |

Love it, and a high percentage of people who hear it seem to love it too. Apart from that the list of my favourite waltzes is huge. Farewell to Devon, lots of O'Carolan tunes, a last century tune called Play, Gypsy, Play; Westering Home, etc etc. Have a listen to Mudcat's own Paul Evenden/Musicman on his CD called Farewell which is a tribute to his late wife. Many of the tunes on that were suggested in a Mudcat thread. It's available through the Mudcat shop, I think. Helen Helen |

"Sheebeg and Shemore" (I know-forgive the lousy spelling) has long been a fave because of a fond memory of a house party with an impromptu dance, but I also like the other chestnuts, including Planxty Irwin and good old Ashoken Farewell. Mind you, I've been fiddling for less than a year, so waltzes are what I do best! |
