The car park is at the bottom of New Road (the road to Netherthong) and on the left just before you get to the Camp site on the right if you are going out of Holmfirth towards Huddersfield.

Will the cafes be open?

Can a duck swim?

I think they are all opening early but could I dare to suggest that you might like to dine at Sid's Cafe in the Church Yard where Dame Pattie Smith EPNS will be teaching you other things to do with spoons apart from eat your porridge. She will be there from 10.00 - 11.00.

dont suppose anyone knows if the eating establishments are open on Sundays - we are camping but it would be nice if we could get a English Breakfast somewhere to start off the day and keep us dancing

hello all -just to clarify a few things re the site...

anyone driving from hudds will go past police station and look for big black sign that says Holmfirth fest of folk - there are 5 of these in diff designs on all entry roads to the town but the one on Hudds rd is placed where you will turn in for the site.

The site does close at 4 on sunday. that means field will be locked off togther with anything wider than 3 foot wide that is the wrong side of the fence. we dont really want any tents there over night, there is no toilets and no securirty either. People wanting to stay with tents and vans can be moved up to the swimming pool opperated space and anyone wanting to do that can negotiate with the pool staff to stay over night for £5.

cars and caravans can be left at mill and i guess we can say we will leave that gate open till after shellbacks but the main key is help by site office which closes at 4 on sunday. we have had a few problems agreeing use of space and i really want site clear of fest folk by 4 as agreed. the local scouts are running the site and need to clean up and get off so it would be good if we all all help there efforts rather than hinder ...

As most people dont hit the streets till dinner time it is easier to drop canvas while it is still dry on sun AM while having breakfast, cars can then be shifted to the free mill car park.

... i dont think the forecast implies tents will dry out in the day on Sunday !

Right I've just got the official word on this.

The field should be cleared and all cars moved off by 4.00 so that the scouts can get cleared up and go home.

The locked post will go in at that point so no cars will be able to get off (or on).

There should be space down there on either the car park or the area to the left of the small children's play area to park some vehicles. Also the Co-op Car Park in Holmfirth is free after 4.00.

Sorry if I've caused any confusiton but I had forgotten that there is a post that goes in to stop vehicular access.

Blame it on a senior moment!

I think you should check out hardstanding area for any Caravans rather than the Sands if there is an alternative

I think the Sands is for tents and similar really

Dont get stuck!

I think what it means about close is that the scouts will take a well deserved rest and go home. The site won't be locked and it is quite likely that some folks will stay over until Monday either by accident or design. I

If you remember last year you will realise I have a very good reason for asking this!

Tickets for the camp site will be at the campsite office on the camp site. We decided that having people trail into Holmfirth and try to park in the Bridge car park was not a good idea with a caravan!
I think people are being asked to consider leaving their cars in the Bridge Mills car park that we used last time so that they don't take up space that could be used by tents.

Coming in from Denby Dale look for the Civic on the Huddersfield road and then out past the fire station

The Sands is by the swimming pool but take the first track down

Mind the Bridge with your Caravan and also the Sleeping Policemen can be very awkward if you have a low draught

Note the Office is in the Old Bridge which is in the very Centre of Holmfirth and from where tickets etc will be very likely!!

There is a very useful path from the town centre car park by the Supermarket past the cricket field coming back from the Sands camp
site (approach back of fire station by the foundry)

Watch car parking in the town as Sunday is NOT free being a tourist area

Leave your cars on the camp site!

Just to avoid any possible confusion - the site is where it used to be near the Swimming Pool and the recreation ground.
It is not where it was moved to out at Holmbridge.
It is where it was last year and about 5 minutes walk from the town centre and all amenities.
And word is that it will be pretty full so let's hope everybody is friendly and considerate!

Tyke, I've tried the Google Earth facility but my browser doesn't seem able to cope! What I would really like is the postcode of the campsite, or one for the nearest building such as the Health Centre. Isn't Sat-Nav wonderful!!!

I've found several likely contenders (HD9 3JL, HD9 2JN, HD9 3TR, HD9 3TT, HD7 2TT) but perhaps someone can suggest which is the most accurate?

You've got me confused there Tyke.
Worry not there's a big board at the side of the road where it says Sands Recreation ground and I suspect it will be quite obvious where you are going because our team of local scouts seem to have everything in hand.

If you fly South from Huddersfield it's 53 o .34'33 N by 1 o .46.51 W
on Google Earth.
Just follow the stream down from the Coop car park past the cricket pitch then it's the Next Football Field. If you cross the stream via the bridge you will find a small service road down to the campsite. I seem to think that by car coming from Huddersfield it's the next left after the Police Station. Don't bob down to the swimming pool car park as the service road is on you right on the bend near the top. It's before the tenis courts and the childrens play area.

Depends on time but it shouldn't be too bad. It might be a bit slow but if you are coming that way just come down past my house, into the town, turn right at the traffic lights and you will find it now on your right but still opposite the health centre.

No changes of any significance, no shipwrecks and nobody drowning - in fact nothing to laugh at at all.
The weather is the only glitch at the moment but we do need the rain and I have it on good authority that it will pick up for the weekend.
So see you there.

A few of us spent a couple of hours yesterday morning in the Co-op in Holmfirth packing bags for the shoppers - whether they wanted us to or not. For this they were expected to reward us handsomely which they did - we collected over £150, a magnificent result which will go towards the costs of the festival.
The more people we speak to the more we realise we did the right thing by keeping the festival in Holmfirth so get over to the valley next Friday, Saturday and Sunday and join us.
We won't be able to pack your bags in the Co-op though because we'll be busy doing other things!

" Willie's Fatal Visit "

It's not the whole song but don't worry about not hearing the end till you see them at Holmfirth festival of Folk I'm sure it will be a happy ending because you just cannot keep a good Willie down.

Check them out on thier updated website of the 1st of May.

Good thinking denying everything Cath let's stop this rumour otherwise we will be needing extra security. I was singing with Coblers Monday in Scarborough on the Grand Turk to raise funds for Lifeboat Day about three years ago when we where mistaken for a Boy Band. There were all these young girls screaming it was so frightening. These days I'm dying my beard grey and wearing a false beer belly just in case it should happen again.

What a silly girl I am! (Ignore loud chorus of 'Oh yes you are!")

Of course Seth Lakeman isn't coming to Holmfirth.

I misunderstood an email I was sent and the true story is the a group of pupils from a local primary school have learnt his song 'The White Hare' and will be performing it in the Schools' Concert on Saturday lunchtime and at the Young Persons' Open Mic on Saturday afternoon. So he will be there in spirit but not in person.

So, should you read this thread Seth, sorry and we won't be expecting you after all.
