Subject: RE: Music festival. Roxby, North, Yorkshire. From: GUEST,Tony Date: 23 Jul 12 - 02:55 AM Whoops. No spell check on mudcat. That should have been turning, but those who have seen my tone deaf atempts with a guitar will agree that i don't know the difference between turning and tunning anyway cheers Tony. |
Subject: RE: Music festival. Roxby, North, Yorkshire. From: Mr Happy Date: 22 Jul 12 - 07:50 AM Ok Tony, I won't be tempted to do any tuning in the lane! |
Subject: RE: Music festival. Roxby, North, Yorkshire. From: GUEST,Tony Date: 22 Jul 12 - 01:17 AM Pitch Report I was at Roxby Saturday (21st). The main camping field is in great shape. Bookings are well up on previous years. The main site is nearly full . I have arranged, with the landowners to have an overspill field available for any one who arives without a booking. When entering Roxby Village the site will be clearly marked with 100 yard and 50 yard road signs on the aproach to the site. The entrance is about 50yards befor the Fox Inn so don't be tempted to drive right up to the pub as tuning in the lane will be difficult.Marshalls will be on site from noon Monday. If you need help, ask at the pub or on site. What ever else happens .Please DO NOT drive past the pub with a caravan or motor home. The road beyond the pub is very narrow with hairpin bends. You will get stuck. Thanks Tony |

Subject: RE: Music festival. Roxby, North, Yorkshire. From: Tim Leaning Date: 13 Jul 12 - 11:43 AM ok for those of you blessed with fancy mobile phones There is now a you tube channel called RoxbyMusicFestival If you want to record some of the performers at Roxby we could try and get them onto that. The performers need to be ok with that happening we don't want to spoil the enjoyment of the people who are there watching and it would be better if the proper accreditation for the song if any could be included... I will have the details of log in etc on hand at Roxby should anyone like to have ago at this... Fun or disaster in the making ? Who knows but as the SAS say "Who Dares WIns".. |

Subject: RE: Music festival. Roxby, North, Yorkshire. From: GUEST,mike ward Date: 09 Jul 12 - 06:39 AM Really looking forward to the Roxby music festival later this month!I have been attending Staithes since it's conception and I think this move to a new venue is a great idea and sounds to have all the ingredients of a great festival! But of course the most important ingredient are the people who attend, and I can't wait to catch up with the friends, musicians and singers that met up with previously at Staithes, and do what we all enjoy doing, having a good sing song, playing music, having a good crack, and of course a pint or two to wet the whistle lol! See you all there! |

Subject: RE: Music festival. Roxby, North, Yorkshire. From: foggers Date: 07 Jul 12 - 09:03 AM Thanks for the reassuring update on the state of the field. I am staying away from this thread as it will tempt me to get all giddy and excited at the prospect of a break from work...and then I just won't focus on the ever-lengthening "to do" list on my desk at the office that I must get through before I can reward myself with a holiday. Thanks to Carol for starting a Facebook page too: it enabled me to invite musical chums with ease! |

Subject: RE: Music festival. Roxby, North, Yorkshire. From: Tim Leaning Date: 06 Jul 12 - 01:31 PM I dunno if crawling around on your hands and knees too drunk to find your caravan counts as a pitch inspection mate... Re drainage is that a good thing? What if someone splliled beer and it "drained away" before they could get down there to suck it up? |
Subject: RE: Music festival. Roxby, North, Yorkshire. From: GUEST,Tony Date: 06 Jul 12 - 09:55 AM Re Condition of camping field. I went for a full pitch inspection yesterday (5th July). I am pleased to report the ground must be really well drained. Even after the recent heavy rain the whole field is still very firm, not even any soft patches in the lower areas. If it can cope with this amount of rain, it can cope with any thing. Just in case any one still has concerns ,there will be a 4x4 on hand to help any one who may have a problem, but I really can't see there being a problem. I will continue to check the camping field at least once a week up to the festival opening. Thanks Tony |

Subject: RE: Music festival. Roxby, North, Yorkshire. From: OlgaJ Date: 01 Jul 12 - 12:25 PM Looking forward to the event. We've never been to Staithes so can't comment but don't see why we can't stay at one site and visit the other once or twice over the five days we will be there. I must say the PMs to clarify things were most welcome and very informative. Look forward to seeing you all. A bit of dry weather wouldn't go amiss though! Anyone got any influence on that one? |
Subject: RE: Music festival. Roxby, North, Yorkshire. From: Tim Leaning Date: 01 Jul 12 - 05:40 AM I heard reports on Radio 4 of people trying t get to one of the giant festivals and they were queuing for hours to get towed on and of off the site.. Not gonna be a problem at Roxby because we are not a bunch of wimps who need baby sitting at every touch and turn.. ARE WE ? :) |
Subject: RE: Music festival. Roxby, North, Yorkshire. From: Mr Happy Date: 01 Jul 12 - 05:20 AM Ditto. With the inordinate amounts of precipitation the country's been experiencing lately, many fest campsites are waterlogged & advice has been for vehicles, trailers, caravans etc to stay off the grass & keep to hardstanding areas such as carparks. At Middlewich FF this was the case & the carpark was very congested |
Subject: RE: Music festival. Roxby, North, Yorkshire. From: GUEST,Tootler Date: 01 Jul 12 - 04:31 AM Thx. Just, I've had experience of turning up at an event to find the car park full of caravans & the like. |
Subject: RE: Music festival. Roxby, North, Yorkshire. From: Tim Leaning Date: 30 Jun 12 - 01:48 PM I dont think you will have a problem parking The camping field will have a space for you even if the car park is full.. |
Subject: RE: Music festival. Roxby, North, Yorkshire. From: Tootler Date: 29 Jun 12 - 07:17 PM I'm hopeful I can make it Friday and Sunday. Is there reasonable car parking at the pub (I mean in number of spaces). I assume the Staithes one we'll still need to use the nearby council car park which is on the pricey side IIRC So it'll probably be Roxby. |

Subject: RE: Music festival. Roxby, North, Yorkshire. From: GUEST,Tony Date: 25 Jun 12 - 08:15 AM Yes Tim, it was the late Bill Newton saddly the music world lost this wit far too soon, I believe he was only 54 when we lost him. I got this from his long term partner. She was happy that Bill is rembered through his songs. He wrote a lot of songs like this. I have two tapes of his. Thanks for your concern Tim, Three PC hits in one day has left me drained . I'm off to see my techno councillor to try and settle my nerves. Cheers Tony |
Subject: RE: Music festival. Roxby, North, Yorkshire. From: Tim Leaning Date: 25 Jun 12 - 06:47 AM Am informed by Peter Outhart That it was "written by the late and great "Suicide" Bill Newton" Its a grand song in my opinion anyway... |

Subject: RE: Music festival. Roxby, North, Yorkshire. From: GUEST,Tony Date: 25 Jun 12 - 02:46 AM Re Betsy Hi Pete You and I have been around the folk scene long enough to know that the first line of your comment about what is detrimental to this scene is true and has caused a lot of needless upset in the past. However on this ocassion you have put two and two together and come up with 103. Forget petty polotics and egos. It's this simple. the old campsite was, and still is for sale. The owners could not/ would not gaurantee it would be available, the only alternative was to rent the school field and bring in porta loos. This meant the cost of running the festival had become prohibative. I had no alternative other than to move the festival to a more suitable site. Roxby has a campsite with flush toilets and shower next to the pub. My first commitment must be for the festival and the people who suppot it. This quite simply was the answer to a number of problems. Hope you get to both events and then pass judgment. Your contribution to previous events have always been valued and appreciated. Cheers Tony |
