Subject: RE: Toronto Mudcatters From: Peter T. Date: 22 Dec 99 - 05:25 PM We're spending Sunday praying for your soul, Spaw. We are going to start early with penitential prayer, warm up with orisons to the Blessed Virgin, crawl on our knees up several flights of stairs (at the Filtration Plant which is a bit like the St. Joseph's Oratory for Toronto), flagellate wading birds, wail, make offerings to the 8 gods in the 12 directions, and generally plead for you, without expectation but just as a kind of seasonal thing, you know. That should make for a full Boxing Day, and then we intend to boogie. yours, Peter T. |

Subject: RE: Toronto Mudcatters From: Steve Latimer Date: 22 Dec 99 - 10:43 AM Okay Torontonians, my curiosity had been peeked, where is The Jester and what's it all about. I don't know the Royal Oak, but The Academy of Spherical Arts was listed as having the largest selection of Single Malts in Toronto, I've even sampled a few there. It's a very upscale pool hall with antique tables and furniture, lots of art by Toronto artists and great music, usually old Jazz and Blues, super atmosphere. I try to get there whenever I'm in Toronto, and I'm not really a pool player. Has anyone else been there? |
Subject: RE: Toronto Mudcatters From: Micca Date: 22 Dec 99 - 09:54 AM Rick, my in-laws live just off St Clair near Pharmacy, and the only reason I went to "The Jester2 was my Bro-in-law was going. I wish I had known you guys then, Maybe next time? I will be with you in spirit. BTW do you know a pub called "the royal oak" I think, it has about 200 single malt whiskys!!!!!! I will check the name later. |
Subject: RE: Toronto Mudcatters From: Steve Latimer Date: 22 Dec 99 - 09:11 AM Going to try to make it in from the cultural wasteland of Whitby, hope to see you there. Steve |
Subject: RE: Toronto Mudcatters From: Date: 22 Dec 99 - 02:05 AM Bring a largemouth bass and the two of you would have something in common. |
Subject: RE: Toronto Mudcatters From: Jeremiah McCaw Date: 22 Dec 99 - 01:54 AM Hmmm ... Might one intrude if one is from the opposite side of the city from Scar-beria? Depending on when I get back from Kingston, I got a fair shot at being able to drop by. Onliest question is: should I bring the Glen Reid bass, or the utterly weird and comical-looking (particularly when I'm wearing it) Ashbory bass? |
Subject: RE: Toronto Mudcatters From: WyoWoman Date: 22 Dec 99 - 01:23 AM I'm a Toronto Mudcateer in my heart of hearts. So I guess on that level I'll be with you in spirit. Which sort of sucks here on the physical plane, but ... oh, well. Please take photos and post them so we can all join the fun, vicariously, as most of my fun these days is wont to be. BTW, Alice and I met last week in Montana and her son Ryan took photos of us. So, if those came out, we'll put them up on the album as well. Lift a toast in our names. Or name a toast in our lifts. Or ... Oh, whatever. Have fun. WyoWoman |
Subject: RE: Toronto Mudcatters From: Escamillo Date: 22 Dec 99 - 12:34 AM Please keep us informed on what happens that night. We'll enjoy it from very distant places of the world, thanks to this great invention. Un abrazo - Andrés |
Subject: RE: Toronto Mudcatters From: Rick Fielding Date: 21 Dec 99 - 11:05 PM Hey Micca, where do your inlaws live and WHY did you go to the Jester? We could have taken you to any number of great folky bars. We're at Kingston rd. and Fallingbrook. Rick and Duckboots |
Subject: RE: Toronto Mudcatters From: Little Neophyte Date: 21 Dec 99 - 09:42 PM Here is one more Toronto Mudcatter to join in the celebration. Sounds like much fun. Bonnie |
Subject: RE: Toronto Mudcatters From: Micca Date: 21 Dec 99 - 08:01 PM I am so envious of you guys, I was in Toronto in August just past visiting my in-laws who live in Scarborough, before I joined this happy band of Brethern and Sistern and the ONLY live music I heard was at some place called "the Jester" I think, and it made punk sound intellectual. It was all this ambient stuff, you know like taping a tea tray dropped down a staircase and looping the tape for 10 minutes. Dreadful, but my Bro-in-law likes it. Long live "Growers Cider" and look out for next time we visit. BTW the previous visit was during Mariposa and who was on Martin Carthy. |
Subject: RE: Toronto Mudcatters From: Duckboots Date: 21 Dec 99 - 07:56 PM Where are you Toronto Mudcatters, have you all gone away for Christmas already? Duckboots |
Subject: RE: Toronto Mudcatters From: Tony Burns Date: 21 Dec 99 - 06:22 PM I'll be there (and I don't have to go to work the next day. Now, if I can get my harp player to show up.... Come on Toronto Mudders, let's party! |
Subject: RE: Toronto Mudcatters From: Jeri Date: 21 Dec 99 - 06:19 PM Rick...fiddle? What fiddle? Oops - I knew I forgot to put something in the car. Jeri, who has trouble getting through a tune when anyone can hear her, and doesn't even want to think about RADIO!!!! |
Subject: RE: Toronto Mudcatters From: bbelle Date: 21 Dec 99 - 05:39 PM I'm so jealous! Well, now that I've telephone himself in Toronto and talked to him, does that make me sort of an unofficial Toronto mudcatter? BTW, Rick ... talked to Stan Jay today and a case would have to be built for my B-25, however, instead, I'm going to buy a Union Blue Gig Bag, which he says will fit in the overhead and I can carry it over my shoulder. At a little less than 5 feet tall, it's a good thing I don't have a big, huge guitar! Thanks for the hookup on mandoweb.com moonchild |
Subject: RE: Toronto Mudcatters From: Rick Fielding Date: 21 Dec 99 - 05:01 PM Thanks Jeri. I guess Mrs. Smartypants doesn't know her blue clickies yet. Actually, any catters in Ontario who are close enough to drive in to the Tranzac are greatly welcome. It's at the corner of Brunswick and Bloor. What Jeri doesn't know yet is that we're going to ask her to play a couple of tunes on the radio earlier that night. Don't tell her. Rick |
Subject: RE: Toronto Mudcatters From: MMario Date: 21 Dec 99 - 04:40 PM so you'll be driving out the thruway, eh? It's not too bad a trip. I've done toronto round trip in a day with 9 hours of Ren-faire between the two legs (and a movie shoot the next morning....), so though you'll be coming from further, at least you won't be turning right around and driving back..... |
Subject: RE: Toronto Mudcatters From: Jeri Date: 21 Dec 99 - 04:21 PM MMario, I'm not taking the "northwest passage" - I'm going through NY. I'm down in the bottom of NH, so it appears quicker that way. I'm not going to enjoy driving that far, but I'm really looking forward to being there. ...and I'm really wishing I had one of those minidisc thingies. Duckboots' e-mail address rescued and turned into a clicky (I hope): e-mail Duckboots |
Subject: RE: Toronto Mudcatters From: Peter T. Date: 21 Dec 99 - 03:46 PM Fantastic. Will be there. yours, Peter T. |
Subject: RE: Toronto Mudcatters From: MMario Date: 21 Dec 99 - 01:29 PM I bet you're taking the northern route over there too, aren't you Jeri..... dang....maybe I could get "sick" the 27th..... |
Subject: RE: Toronto Mudcatters From: catspaw49 Date: 21 Dec 99 - 01:22 PM Jeri will be there with her fiddle and her dragonfly hooters? Take pictures Boots and send me some huh? Seriously, I'd love to have a group shot of that gang. And check your e-mail on Christmas morning...I'll send a picture of the morning here....got this new camera and if I can figure out the software........... Spaw |
Subject: Toronto Mudcatters From: Duckboots Date: 21 Dec 99 - 01:08 PM Calling Toronto Mudcatters - what are you doing on December 27th?
