Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: Dave the Gnome Date: 26 Apr 20 - 12:51 PM Hi Anahata I will put some on the playlist and in the meanwhile I have subscribed the Mudcat channel to your channel. I hope that makes sense! Hope you and Mary are keeping safe and well. |

Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: treewind Date: 26 Apr 20 - 09:53 AM I've got loads of stuff on YouTube, some with my other half Mary Humphreys and some on my own, and much of the recent stuff a deliberate "lockdown" project to make up for the lack of live gigs and sessions. Here's a selection from the last month or so: The Tankard of Ale - old 3/2 English tune Red Running Rue - sung by Mary with me on 1 row melodeon The Merry Month / Squirrel Up a Tree - two jigs Geld Him Lasses / Hornpipe by Purcell - two more 3/2 hornpipes The Road To Poynton - tune by Robert Harbron played by me solo The Railway - jig played by me solo The Lady in the Boat / St George's Day two jigs, played by both of us The False Bride - sung by Mary with banjo The Trees They Grow So High - version collected in Cambridgeshire, sung by Mary A Sailors Life - sung by Mary unaccompanied Knole Park / One More Dance and Then - played by Mary and me Pajdusko Horo - Macedonian dnce tune in 5/8 time played by me Watson's Hornpipe - multitracked two melodeons + cello Feel free to add some or any of those to the playlist. Lots more (especially melodeon tunes) on my YouTube channel Anahata |

Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: rich-joy Date: 26 Apr 20 - 12:27 AM DtG, I have sent you a PM with potential links. Cheers! R-J |
Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: Dave the Gnome Date: 25 Apr 20 - 09:03 AM Just added "A Meditation" by Will Fly |
Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: Dave the Gnome Date: 24 Apr 20 - 01:01 PM Almost, cnd, but I have 'pinched' a couple of videos that were already on YouTube to save having the double link. In principle though you are right so thank you for taking the time to explain. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: cnd Date: 24 Apr 20 - 12:52 PM Doug, My understanding is that the uploads are videos not previously published on YouTube, while the playlist is meant to assemble videos already posted on YouTube by 'Catters. The "no views" issue is a bug with YouTube -- it just takes a minute to tally a view. I think it has something to do with how they keep track of view statistics, but that's just speculation. The benefit of being a subscriber is that you would get notified via email when a video is posted (if you choose, though there are other settings) and that it makes the account and its new videos easier to find in the future. Rather than going here and finding the thread and then finding the link, you can simply type in youtube's address and then go to your subscriptions page. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: The Sandman Date: 24 Apr 20 - 12:41 PM good luck with it hope its a success |
Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: Doug Chadwick Date: 24 Apr 20 - 10:38 AM Yet another question:- I see there are 8 subscribers. Is there any benefit or, indeed, any disadvantage to being a subscriber? DC |
Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: Doug Chadwick Date: 24 Apr 20 - 10:32 AM Also, "Nat Shapiro's Time performed by Nick and band" is still showing 'No views' but I have watched it all the way through. DC |
Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: Doug Chadwick Date: 24 Apr 20 - 10:23 AM Is there a difference between the uploads shown under the Video tab and those shown on the 'Videos by Mudcatters' playlist? They all seem to be by Mudcatters, but none of the former appear with the latter and vice versa. DC |
Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: Dave the Gnome Date: 24 Apr 20 - 04:12 AM I enjoyed it Guest but is it A) A Mudcatter B) Anything to do with May and C) Folk music? Raised a question I have pondered before. Is a place where they sell lots of Llamas a Llamarama and, if so, if you needed to attract and assistant with a bell, would that be a llamarama ding dong? |
Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: Dave the Gnome Date: 24 Apr 20 - 03:19 AM I'm putting performances by Mudcatters on, Stilly. There are also 2 playlists. One linking Mudcatter performances and one for videos of significance to Mudcatters. I'll have a look at the Facebook page and see how best to treat performances on their. Add to a playlist or upload the video. I'm still looking for a collaborator. Someone from the US if possible but not compulsory. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: Stilly River Sage Date: 24 Apr 20 - 01:56 AM Dave, you started this thread - are you sorting Mudcat performances from all of the performances of others that Mudcatter's simply share because they like them? Are you looking at the Facebook page where these things get posted - you could grab links from those performances and ad them where appropriate on YouTube. That's enough work to keep you out of trouble for a while! |
Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: Dave the Gnome Date: 23 Apr 20 - 08:03 AM I've put Nat Shapiro's time on the main page, Nick. I'll link the other on a playlist later. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: Nick Date: 22 Apr 20 - 09:37 PM Or this one - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wIoaRD4S4SU It's not folk but you'll perhaps recognise Pete Ryder's song which I learned from my Swinton visits a LONG time ago |
Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: Nick Date: 22 Apr 20 - 09:24 PM You are welcome to add this if you want if it's suitable. It's me and the band I play with (called Accord) playing at a cafe in Scarborough. Even with my mistakes... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=27sx_Ju-Jgc |
Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: rich-joy Date: 22 Apr 20 - 06:48 PM I see that the 2 x links I posted above on 21April to Mudcat threads re Catters' You Tube Channels, only lead to "Server error" - serves me right for trying to do things without my glasses!!! Perhaps some kind MudElf could fix those links please??!! Ta! Cheers, R-J Fixed! |
Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: Dave the Gnome Date: 22 Apr 20 - 02:29 PM Just post a link RD and I'll put them on the playlist or, if you prefer, send me the videos and I will post them. If you go for the latter just send one at a time though please. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: Rusty Dobro Date: 22 Apr 20 - 01:01 PM From an IT illiterate: how do I move videos already on YouTube to the new channel? |
Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: Dave the Gnome Date: 22 Apr 20 - 09:40 AM Added a video from Nick Dow - Thanks Nick - and a couple of playlists. One called "Videos of other Mudcatters" which is self explanatory but I haven't put mudcat names on them. I'd rather leave that to individuals. The other playlist is called "Other videos of interest" and I want to use that to link anyone or any music that may have come up in discussuon. I have just added one song by Walter Pardon to date. Any suggestions or ideas would be welcome. Is there anyone over the water from may that is happy to collaborate on this channel or am I going to have to volunteer someone :-) |
Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: Raggytash Date: 22 Apr 20 - 08:35 AM Tony Morris from Whitby has already started a covideo folk club on faceache. It seems to be very popular so all credit to Tony. |

Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: Dave the Gnome Date: 19 Apr 20 - 08:54 AM Ooooh. Thanks Daniel. I shall look into that. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: Dave the Gnome Date: 19 Apr 20 - 08:53 AM Added a Dick Miles video now as well :-) |
Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: Daniel Kelly Date: 19 Apr 20 - 08:53 AM You may get less pain out of a Mudcat Playlist on YouTube, this would avoid all the extra uploading and people can just send you links to the upload on their own channel. You could set up playlists based on a theme (e.g. Child Ballads, Deportation Ballads, Bawdy Ballads). |
Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: Dave the Gnome Date: 19 Apr 20 - 08:02 AM I have only been to topic once, Joe, and that was years ago. Skipton is my regular club now but I do venture elsewhere occasionally :-) Did you ever go to Swindon near Manchester? I was doorman and chief glass emptier there for over 30 years until about 8 years back. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: Joe G Date: 19 Apr 20 - 06:33 AM Ah I finally know who you are Dave! Mystery solved! Recognize you from Skipton FC I think and possibly the Topic? |
Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: Bonnie Shaljean Date: 19 Apr 20 - 04:48 AM What an absolutely brilliant idea. Jack’s suggestion too, about having a recommended-listening channel. Go for it. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: Stilly River Sage Date: 18 Apr 20 - 11:26 AM We don't like your videos posted on that Facebook page as the only place because everything disappears too quickly. Please consider shifting to the YouTube platform. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: Stilly River Sage Date: 18 Apr 20 - 11:24 AM Good! Now, when people post stuff to the Facebook page that will soon disappear, I can point them at the new page and ask them to share it there as well. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: Dave the Gnome Date: 18 Apr 20 - 11:09 AM I think they do, Vic, but as I said in the OP a number of people have said they don't do Faceache. Anyhow, making this up as I go along now... We have a Youtube channel here with just one video on it - by me. Sorry :-) How do we want to play this? People send me videos and I post them? As it is a 'brand' channel I can also add another admin. Maybe someone in the US? Joe? It's my first venture onto a YouTube channel so I am open to any ideas that would be better. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: Vic Smith Date: 18 Apr 20 - 08:01 AM Don't people already post their videos on the Mudcat Facebook page? |
Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: Dave the Gnome Date: 18 Apr 20 - 07:43 AM I'll let you know how it works when I've had a proper look, Nick. Hopefully this afternoon |
Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: GUEST,Nick Dow Date: 18 Apr 20 - 06:42 AM Go on Dave! Set it up. I'll contribute. If you/Joe have editorial control, maybe contributors could We Transfer videos to you, for you to upload as you see fit. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: Dave the Gnome Date: 18 Apr 20 - 03:41 AM That's great. Love the percussion section :-) |
Subject: RE: Mudcat YouTube channel? From: Jack Campin Date: 18 Apr 20 - 03:41 AM Great idea. Would it help to have two channels, one purely of performances by Mudcatters and another one if things Mudcatters want to point us to? |
