Subject: RE: Pickering Folk Festival: Tickets Online From: GUEST,John Robinson Date: 08 Oct 08 - 02:27 PM Refinancing businesses in the middle of a world-wide credit crisis is one of the more trickier aspects of entrepreneurship at the moment. Without seeing the balance sheet of this business it is impossible to draw any firm conclusions from their "ownership" of land. |
Subject: RE: Pickering Folk Festival: Tickets Online From: GUEST,Barbara Hoyle Date: 08 Oct 08 - 10:15 AM Yes, owning so much land doesn't exactly suggest that refunding our hard earned cash would leave the owners on their uppers does it? Not to mention all the other business interests.... |
Subject: RE: Pickering Folk Festival: Tickets Online From: GUEST,aelfleda Date: 08 Oct 08 - 06:15 AM I'm still waiting too! I wasn't aware that the festival organisers actually owned the showground! |
Subject: RE: Pickering Folk Festival: Tickets Online From: GUEST,John Robinson Date: 07 Oct 08 - 10:33 AM That's sad to hear. |
Subject: RE: Pickering Folk Festival: Tickets Online From: theleveller Date: 07 Oct 08 - 08:59 AM Sorry, didn't ask that, Ruth. I am assuming that their scheduled events, including the Folk Festival, will still go ahead. Presumably they will have to pay the new owners rent or maybe organise it on a joint basis. If you want to ring them to confirm, the number is 01759 301547. Unfortunately, we won't be going as it's Ryedale Folk Weekend at the same time. |
Subject: RE: Pickering Folk Festival: Tickets Online From: Ruth Archer Date: 07 Oct 08 - 08:34 AM how does that impact on the re-scheduled festival?! |
Subject: RE: Pickering Folk Festival: Tickets Online From: theleveller Date: 07 Oct 08 - 08:30 AM I've just spoken to the Events Office and it seems that the refunds are being cleared slowly. I was told that the organisers are having to sell the showground itself to raise money, which should be completed in around 10 days, after which all refunds will be processed at once. |
Subject: RE: Pickering Folk Festival: Tickets Online From: GUEST,jacobsgoldmine Date: 06 Oct 08 - 01:34 PM I have tried ringing today and either got the engaged tone or ringing and ringing, I too have had no response to emails. We don't want tickets for May as we are already away and £175 is alot of money! If anyone gets anywhere let us know........ I'm not holding my breath though! Not a good advert for Pickering! Cath (Pickering resident) |
Subject: RE: Pickering Folk Festival: Tickets Online From: GUEST,Barbara Hoyle Date: 06 Oct 08 - 11:33 AM I do not know of anyone who has received a refund. This in spite of the claim on the website that refunds would begin on August 27th in alphabetical order. Friends whose surname begins with B are still waiting..... Having eventually managed to make contact by phone, all replies to any queries made are evasive.Emails are ignored. |
Subject: RE: Pickering Folk Festival: Tickets Online From: Tim Leaning Date: 04 Oct 08 - 06:20 AM Would you let us all know how yo get on with that please? It would be good to see reasonable outcome acheived after all the heated debate. |
Subject: RE: Pickering Folk Festival: Tickets Online From: theleveller Date: 04 Oct 08 - 05:44 AM No, not yet. I'll ring them on Monday. |
Subject: RE: Pickering Folk Festival: Tickets Online From: GUEST,jacobsgoldmine Date: 03 Oct 08 - 04:11 PM Has anyone actually had there monies refunded? we are still waiting..... |

Subject: RE: Pickering Folk Festival: Tickets Online From: Dennis the Elder Date: 03 Sep 08 - 01:12 PM Hi Dave go to www.theeventsoffice.co.uk click on Events in left hand column and near top of resulting page you will see details of Pickering Folk Festival. It is,according to the Events Office, Spring Bank Holiday so not as strange as it first appears. I wish I could give you a link, but my ability stops before this point. |
Subject: RE: Pickering Folk Festival: Tickets Online From: Snuffy Date: 03 Sep 08 - 01:09 PM It would be strange to have a festival on a Sat, Sun and Mon. Not if the Monday is a Bank Holiday, which the last Monday in May usually is. |
Subject: RE: Pickering Folk Festival: Tickets Online From: Dave (Bridge) Date: 03 Sep 08 - 01:01 PM Hi Dennis, I might be blind or hitting the wrong buttons but I cannot find this information. It would be strange to have a festival on a Sat, Sun and Mon |
Subject: RE: Pickering Folk Festival: Tickets Online From: Dennis the Elder Date: 03 Sep 08 - 03:31 AM The www.theeventsoffice.co.uk states so, have a look if you wish to confirm |
Subject: RE: Pickering Folk Festival: Tickets Online From: Dave (Bridge) Date: 03 Sep 08 - 02:28 AM Would that be Sat, Sun and Monday then? |
Subject: RE: Pickering Folk Festival: Tickets Online From: Banjiman Date: 02 Sep 08 - 02:08 PM erm.......Ryedale Folk Weekend actually, about ? 10 miles away. Means you can do both I guess, I think we will! Both sets of organisers seem pretty chilled about the situation, so I guess there is no need for any of us to get to excited about it either. Paul |
Subject: RE: Pickering Folk Festival: Tickets Online From: Dennis the Elder Date: 02 Sep 08 - 02:03 PM Thanks, thats a relief. Lets hope it does not clash with anything local |

It was certainly in early May 2,3+4 last year and it was excellent. Can someone let me know please? I am also going out for a pint. |
Subject: RE: Pickering Folk Festival: Tickets Online From: Rasener Date: 01 Sep 08 - 02:01 PM Ooops sorry, I think I need a drink, May is a bit too early . Sorry about that. |

Subject: RE: Pickering Folk Festival: Tickets Online From: Dennis the Elder Date: 01 Sep 08 - 12:11 PM Good news Pickering Folk Festival is to be rescheduled for next year 23, 24, and 25 May 2009. Lets hope this does not clash with anything See www.theeventsoffice.co.uk for details of refunds etc The acts etc are yet to be booked, but lets hope for a similar one to that planned for this year I still believe this years event was cancelled due to genuine weather problems. |
Subject: RE: Pickering Folk Festival: Tickets Online From: Watt Tyler Date: 13 Aug 08 - 12:20 PM I must also add that the ground was drenched (For all the doubters). |
Subject: RE: Pickering Folk Festival: Tickets Online From: Watt Tyler Date: 13 Aug 08 - 12:17 PM Dear Cynic, As Joe rightly says, perhaps you should register and tell us all you know. I'm intrigued as to your cynicism. As far as I am aware, The Events Office have posted information to ticket holders stating their intentions. Also, why was the rain a blessing? It looked like a fine event to me. I drove past the site last Wednesday and everything seemed to be progressing nicely. Marquees were up and fencing was all in place. It's just a pity about the damned weather! Again, I await your views. Tyler |
Subject: RE: Pickering Folk Festival: Tickets Online From: GUEST,Guest - Query Date: 12 Aug 08 - 08:28 PM I made comment that perhaps the rain was a blessing. This appeared and then disappeared. Big brother or what? Cynic PS The information on ticket refunds is slipping backwards in time. Perhaps I should not comment on this? Subject: RE: Pickering Folk Festival: Tickets Online From: GUEST,JR Date: 09 Aug 08 - 02:12 PM And thirded. I was (as but a child) at the very first Pickering Steam Rally and I have to say Mr Boak has achieved a remarkable amount since then. I just love success stories! |
Subject: RE: Pickering Folk Festival: Tickets Online From: theleveller Date: 08 Aug 08 - 03:03 PM Seconded! |
Subject: RE: Pickering Folk Festival: Tickets Online From: Banjiman Date: 08 Aug 08 - 12:05 PM "Lets hope Simon has the courage to try again next year. " Here, here! |
Subject: RE: Pickering Folk Festival: Tickets Online From: Dennis the Elder Date: 08 Aug 08 - 11:51 AM It is a great shame that this event has to be cancelled. I have been at Pickering Traction Rally a few years ago when the flooding was indeed serious, we coped and I Know Simon Boak the organiser will not have taken the decision to cancel lightly. I was to work on Health and Safety at both the Traction Rally and the Festival, but at late notice had to go to Beirut to work , sounds as if this was a much safer option. Lets hope Simon has the courage to try again next year. |
Subject: RE: Pickering Folk Festival: Tickets Online From: GUEST,suzi Date: 08 Aug 08 - 10:11 AM I was camping there last weekend for the steam rally and in the field where the arena was , they had a machine pumping the water off the field from Thursday nights storm. After that it dried up very quickly... but i suppose if rain is forcast all weekend it would be pointless. I commend the organisers from the steam rally for how quickly the problem was dealt with. |
Subject: RE: Pickering Folk Festival: Tickets Online From: My guru always said Date: 08 Aug 08 - 03:36 AM Terrible news, but I'm sure that the organisers have made the right decision. Very sorry to hear of this, perhaps a Fundraiser event will be on the cards (as several had to do last year due to weather and flooding) as I'm sure there will be lots of funding issues with this late cancellation! |
Subject: RE: Pickering Folk Festival: Tickets Online From: GUEST,gedpipes Date: 07 Aug 08 - 12:06 PM What a Body blow to the organisers. I feel for you people to have got this far and had to cancel. |
Subject: RE: Pickering Folk Festival: Tickets Online From: muppitz Date: 07 Aug 08 - 11:01 AM Good job I decided on Saltburn FF instead! Sadly they have fallen foul to that most used of British phrases, "Rain stopped play". muppitz x |
