Three more from the Penguin Book , off the top of my head...

The Man of Burningham Town Lisbon Bruton Town

Then all the disaster songs : The Gresford Disaster, Trimdon Grange explosion et al

As through Moorfields I rambled.

Scarborough Fair - or the North Yorkshire variant Whittingham Fair.

There's the BeeGees/Les Barker collaboration of "J-J-J-Jive Dorking, G-Guildford get down..."

How about "Brecon Up Is Hard to Do"?

Or another Les Barker gem: "It Ain't Llantisilio So"

For people in Kent: "Don't Let Your Deal Go Down"

Further West: "Seaton on the Dock of the Bay"

And finally a very old one "I'm Only Paignton the Clouds With Sunshine"

I'll get me coat...

Owl, Cape Cod isn't a town, is it?

How about "The Roseville Fair?"

What's the name of that song they play at the beginning of Austin City Limits -- "I want to go back with the armadillo, Good country music and amarillo ..."? Does it have "Austin" in the title?

Another train song that has city names, too, is "The Atcheson, Topeka, and The Santa Fe."

After he did "El Paso," Marty Robbins wrote (?) and sang another song called "El Paso City."

Stuck Inside of Mobile with the Memphis Blues Again

Hard Times in New York Town

Meet Me In St. Louis

San Francisco Bay Blues

L.A. Woman

Streets of London

Chattanooga Choo-Choo

Werewolves of London

Birmingham Sunday

Veracruz

Chicago

Of the above, "Veracruz" and "Werewolves of London" are by the esteemed Warren Zevon. My apologies for unintentional repeats. Boy, I was frustrated that somebody got "First We Take Manhattan..." before I saw this thread. Bob Dylan wins for longest title (and song).

Stick the word "Guelph" in any of these titles for a laugh. It's my favourite city name in Ontario, Canada. My favourite anywhere is Schenectady...it sounds like a sneeze combined with a very uncomfortable contortion of the larynx. NO ONE has written a song with either Guelph or Schenectady in the title for some strange reason...

Jerry, is that a different song from "A Foggy Day In London Town?"

There's also, "New York, New York, a wonderful town. The Bronx is up and the Battery's down. The people ride in a hole in the ground. ...".

Also, "San Francisco, open your Golden Gate. You make no stranger wait outside your door ...".

There's a singer/songwriter who used to sing in Portland, OR, whose name, I think is Tom something-or-other, and who used to live in Bismarck, ND. He wrote a song called "Bismarck," the chorus of which starts, "Hell, yes, hell, no, It's a rotten hell hole...".

There's also the old song from the civil rights movement of the 1960s,
Oxford Town

and a country song called "Saginaw, Michigan."

Also, I believe the Greek version of the song "Never On Sunday," as sung in the film, is called "Piraeus."

And Miriam Makeba and other sang "Soweto Blues" in the Paul Simon African Concert.

There was even a song I heard in an old western movie (that I saw on TV in the 1950s) that started out
"I'm ridin' down the trail to Albuquerque,
My saddle bags are filled with beans and jerky." I guess the title was "Albuquerque."

Gotta be some songs with Boston, Cincinnati, Louisville, Albany, Minneapolis, Montreal, Shanghai, Tokyo, Halifax, Barcelona, Amsterdam, Havana,* etc. in the title, eh?

Genie

*Actually, when I first heard the song "Hava Nagila," --many centuries ago -- it was sung by Harry Belafonte, and I thought the song was in Spanish, and I thought the title was "Havana Gila." :-)

Greg, you mentioned Himazas - one of my favourites:

(I'm Going Back To) Himazas

I'm going back to Himazas,
Never again to roam.
I'm jogging along,
And humming a song,
"A day's march nearer home",
There's a cottage so neat
At the top of the street
And it's numbered ninety four, so,
I'm going back to Himazas,
Him as 'as the pub next door.

Written by Fred Austin, published 1927.

PS There's also Durham Town, The Rochdale Mashers, What Kind of Fulham I, Meet Me in St Louis, Girl from Ipanema, In the Old Bazaar in Cairo, Margate, and no doubt many, many more.
