We had a buncha kids music by Burl Ives when I was a kid -- "Little white Duck," etc -- sounds like the same ballpark.

Anyone?? Have to deliver the present tonight. The "Talking Harmonica" on this record is an incredible piece of musicianship and I'd really like to pass along the performer's name if possible. I'm still coming up empty on my own searches for Gateway records....anyone know if they still exist?

This record has mostly nursery rhymes...SeeSaw Marjorie Daw, Three Blind Mice, Old King Cole etc. with great sound effects and comedy in it. The songs I'm using are "The Talking Harmonica"...the harmonica wants its mother and a drink of water; "Bimbo" ; "Daffodilly Duck"...the duck can't quack right but ends up being a hero. The record itself is thicker and heavier than most of my 33's, and feels more like my old 78's. It also says "Long Playing 33 1/3" which makes me think it was pressed around the time that 33's were first introduced. I don't know when that was. I got the record at a yard sale in the sixties and it was very used then. I'm guessing thirties or forties production. It has kids in the background talking, one of whom has a Shirley Temple 'accent'.

One graet tune the Rory McLeod did was a brilliant track off 'Kicking the sawdust' was called 'Harmonicas Dream' and he makes the harmonica talk, Fantastic.

Bye, Sam

Dear Nightowl: Try listing the songs individually from the album label and you might get somewhere. Also, when did your daughter grow up? Years? Maybe those of us with similiar dates could help with suggestions! Anne

I am making my granddaughter's 1st birthday present of songs my daughter grew up with. One of her favorites is titled "Tunes for Tots", and has NO information on who the various artists are on the record......I have long ago lost the jacket to the record (the record survived a fire--the jacket didn't!) Produced by Gateway Records, 3930 Spring Grove Ave, Cincinnati, 23, Ohio. It's 33 1/3 rpm hi-fi; and has no date on it. Anyone familiar with it? (Of course I've waited until the last minute to do this!!!!!!) Yup, I checked the Database and Forum Search,...
