Subject: RE: Anyone heard Ollabelle? From: GUEST,Arkie Date: 30 Mar 07 - 01:03 PM I have the first CD and really enjoyed it. Liked some tracks better than others, but that is not unusual. I am glad to have the CD. I made a special effort to see them at Folk Alliance but on that occasion it seemed liked the singers were accompanying the drummer and I had to leave after about three numbers. The drums were at least two, maybe three times, louder than anything else. In that small room the drums did not need to miked at all. But that is the fault of the sound guys not the band. I think I would have like the vocals if I could have heard them. And they do pay homage to Ola Belle Reed. Using her name was intentional as a way of remembering her. |
Subject: RE: Anyone heard Ollabelle? From: GUEST Date: 30 Mar 07 - 12:54 PM I doubt it would pass as "folk" music here at the Mudcat This does seem to be the last bastion of them that still can't accept what happened at Newport in 1965. Ollabelle is a great FOLK band. I've even read about them in Sing Out! The Folk Song Magazine. |
Subject: RE: Anyone heard Ollabelle? From: Wesley S Date: 30 Mar 07 - 11:08 AM Ray - they have mentioned Ola Belle Reed in reviews as being the inspiration for their name. I have the first CD and enjoyed it. I doubt it would pass as "folk" music here at the Mudcat but I enjoyed it. They never eally rock out on the CD I have. In a word I'd describe them as soothing. |
Subject: RE: Anyone heard Ollabelle? From: GoodNightGracie Date: 30 Mar 07 - 11:03 AM They do a moving rendition of "gentle annie" on the stephen foster anthology, Beautiful Dreamer. Makes me want to hear more of their stuff. |
Subject: RE: Anyone heard Ollabelle? From: BanjoRay Date: 30 Mar 07 - 04:00 AM I hope they give some recognition to Ola Belle Reed, fine singer and banjo player, from whom they seem to have nicked the name. Ray |
Subject: RE: Anyone heard Ollabelle? From: Peace Date: 30 Mar 07 - 01:21 AM Go to Youtube. Type in Ollabelle. Boom, Bob's yer uncle. |
Subject: Anyone heard Ollabelle? From: michaelr Date: 30 Mar 07 - 01:02 AM Newish Americana band, with Levon Helm's daughter Amy on vocals. I've only heard a couple of their songs on the radio, and they sound good. Anyone have the CD? Care to post a review? Cheers, Michael |
