Subject: RE: Spamalot From: Bill H //\\ Date: 28 Jun 08 - 04:24 PM I saw it with the original cast shortly after it opened and all I can say is WOW. True, Monty Python fans were laughing even before the punch lines but there was plenty for everyone else. David Hyde Pierce was amazing and the Jewish Musical spoof which, surely, was not Monty Python material (other than now for something different ) was brilliant--as was the Lady of the Lake number. One cannot pick what is best it was all so good---perhaps the fake start to the show. Bill Hahn |
Subject: RE: Spamalot From: GUEST,celticblues5 Date: 28 Jun 08 - 04:22 PM Sure, Python fans have heard it all before --- over & over! That's part of the fun of any cult sort of thing --- knowing the catch-phrases & anticipating the goofiness that one knows is coming... ;-) |
Subject: RE: Spamalot From: Cool Beans Date: 28 Jun 08 - 03:45 PM I loved it! Saw it twice. We had a thread going on it a couple years ago but I can't find it. |
Subject: RE: Spamalot From: M.Ted Date: 28 Jun 08 - 03:22 AM Saw it opening week in New York--I was expecting a much better show--for those who like Monty Python, you've heard it all before, for those who don't, why bother? There were and are many better shows. If you liked it, "to each his own", said the lady as she kissed the pig. |
Subject: RE: Spamalot From: GUEST,celticblues5 Date: 28 Jun 08 - 02:06 AM Saw it when the road show came through last year - just great!!! You'll get even more out of it if you have any background at all in musical theatre (convention-mocking at its best). |
Subject: RE: Spamalot From: Celtaddict Date: 27 Jun 08 - 11:50 PM Saw it in New York in April 07 and we are still chuckling and quoting the French taunts to one another. I wave my private parts at your auntie. |

Subject: RE: Spamalot From: Liz the Squeak Date: 27 Jun 08 - 04:29 PM I SOOOOOOOO want to see this... but alas, no money til November. LTS |
Subject: RE: Spamalot From: Genie Date: 27 Jun 08 - 04:18 PM It's still playing. Hannah Waddingham (as Lady Of The Lake, originally played on Broadway by Sara Ramirez) and Clay Aiken (as Sir Robin The Chickenheart - originally played by David Hyde-Pierce on Broadway and by Eric Idle in Monty Python & The Holy Grail, on which Spamalot is based) just left the show (May 5) so there were a couple new cast members who came on board in May, but the show was going strong in late Jan., Feb., March, and April and seems to be continuing successfully. I didn't get to see it but I have several friends who did and they say it's a hoot. It's completely silly, of course. ; ) |
Subject: RE: Spamalot From: lady penelope Date: 27 Jun 08 - 04:12 PM It's been on Broadway (dunno if it's still playing there) but as far as I know it doesn't tour as such. It's the west end and that's it. My husband took his own coconuts.... |
Subject: RE: Spamalot From: John MacKenzie Date: 27 Jun 08 - 11:48 AM I want to, but so far no. G |
Subject: Spamalot From: JedMarum Date: 27 Jun 08 - 11:32 AM I don't see a lot of music shows, since they typically run during hours I'm working - but my son gave me two tickets to see Spamalot on a night when he knew I was in town and able to go (clever lad did his homework). What a delight! Great show, great music, clever songs. It's aimed at Monty Python fans, to be sure - but it will make sense to anyone. Does this show tour the world? Have you seen it? |
