Subject: RE: Obit: Isaac Hayes, R&B legend - Aug 2008 From: Stilly River Sage Date: 12 Aug 08 - 06:11 PM I heard a replay of an old interview with him on Terry Gross's Fresh Air (on NPR) yesterday. I think he did have a sense of humor, and he also had the good sense not to take some of the image stuff too seriously. SRS |

Subject: RE: Obit: Isaac Hayes, R&B legend - Aug 2008 From: SINSULL Date: 11 Aug 08 - 08:32 AM Hot Buttered Soul - a landmark in soul music. His confrontation with with the South Park crowd and Chef's undignified death never sat well with me. But we all do what we have to do. RIP |
Subject: RE: Obit: Isaac Hayes, R&B legend - Aug 2008 From: Gavin Paterson Date: 11 Aug 08 - 05:23 AM In New Orleans, on the same day, I saw Fats Domino, Allen Toussaint and Isaac Hayes play live. What a day - each of them changed R&B, quite significantly in their time and to see them all live was mind blowing. Isaac was great but his band only had 'fake' horns and strings, via keyboards. Not the same at all. But a good guy, great songwriter and producer and the chucka-chucka of 'Shaft' will probably be around forever. |
Subject: RE: Obit: Isaac Hayes, R&B legend - Aug 2008 From: fat B****rd Date: 11 Aug 08 - 05:11 AM I love his Sam & Dave stuff with Dave Porter and of course "Shaft", I'll get out his "LIve at Tahoe" CD and 'get down'in my arthritic-kneed way. RIP Black Moses. I don't believe he ever took his showbiz persona seriously. |
Subject: RE: Obit: Isaac Hayes, R&B legend - Aug 2008 From: M.Ted Date: 10 Aug 08 - 09:23 PM He was amazing to see in person, as well--I saw Robert Palmer when "I Didn't Mean to Turn You On"the top of the charts, and saw Hayes play the same tune a few nights later--and dear Robert wasn't in the same league. No one was. |
