Subject: Lyr Add: BLACK DEER (John Kirkpatrick?) From: Jim Dixon Date: 10 Nov 09 - 07:01 PM This must be the song that was wanted. It was posted by GUEST,Otto in the thread Looking for songs against racism but I think it would be good to have it here: BLACK DEER John Kirkpatrick? Black deer, where can you run to? Black deer, where can you hide? Where your young ones used to wander Is all scarred and torn asunder For the white stag has stolen your ground away. Brown deer, where can you go grazing? Brown deer, where can you feed? There is pasture pure a-plenty. No belly need go empty, But the white stag has stolen your ground away. Red deer, who'll find your freedom? Red deer, who'll ease your pain? For your mother's grave is shattered, And your father's bones all scattered, For the white stag has stolen your ground away. White deer, who'll stand against him? White deer, who'll drag him down? While his angry hoof keeps beating, Our days are short and fleeting Till the white stag has stolen our world away. Subject: RE: Lyr Req: white stag red deer From: VirginiaTam Date: 09 Nov 09 - 02:51 AM Guest DKL. I have searched as you advised. Very interesting, but not the same story at all. The singer (and maybe the songwriter who's name escapes me) offered apologies to me as I was a white American in attendance at the session (in UK) in which he sang it. The song was definitely about colonisation of America and the abuses of Native Americans, Black slaves and the immigration issues with Hispanic people coming into the country through souther borders. The White Stag imagery does not belong only to Hungarian Boy Scouts. Also I did not find any reference to brown, red and black deer. Though maybe one might assume the attachment to displaced persons. Or maybe to colours of uniforms. I would be interested in learning more, so please a little more guidance. This forum is the perfect place for such discussion. Please join us and start a thread. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: white stag red deer From: GUEST,DKL Date: 08 Nov 09 - 08:33 PM Search under Godollo-Hungary pre WWII (~1920) It Is There.....but you might need "BableFish" to make your wish fulfilled. The symbol/song became part of the resistance movement against the Deutschland National Socialist Party. Don't Be Laxy. Why did you ever think it was American oriented? The colors do NOT refer to skin tones (at least in the original)...in YOUR mind obviously they do. I am sorry. The Azii person in this forum has similar racial ethnic issues. Teach a person to fish. I will not lead you to the well. Seek and ye shall find. |

Subject: Lyr Req: white stag red deer From: VirginiaTam Date: 20 Aug 08 - 03:24 PM I heard an amazing song at the Leigh Folk Festival about a white stag. The story line told how the white stag had run the red deer off of the land. There other verses about brown deer, black deer. Obviously an analogy for how white man in America had abused people of colour in usurping the land. I would love to hear this song again. Anybody know where I can find a recording or at least the lyrics. |
