Subject: RE: TUNE ADD: Four Strong Winds From: DougR Date: 13 Jul 99 - 06:06 PM A bit of trivia about FOUR STRONG WINDS for those who like stuff like that. One of Waylon Jennings'first recordings was FOUR STRONG WINDS recorded at Audio Recorders in Phoenix, Arizona before he went to Nashville. He played regularly at a club in Scottsdale called JD's. The trivia: There is a trumpet riff on Waylon's FOUR STRONG WINDS record played by a then unknown musician. Herb Alpert, before he established the Tijuana Brass. The 45rpm record is probably a collector's item now. I think it's a great song. DougR |
Subject: RE: TUNE ADD: Four Strong Winds From: moonchild Date: 13 Jul 99 - 09:41 AM John ... I can relate because it's the first song I, too, learned on my guitar and it remains one of my favorites... moonchild |

Subject: RE: TUNE ADD: Four Strong Winds From: Jeri Date: 13 Jul 99 - 08:21 AM George, the link works fine for me now. I think Joe or someone must have snuck in there and fixed it. It used to have a " at the end and it doesn't anymore. Sorry about my misunderstanding. (Doh! Next time, read the WHOLE thread, Jeri.) |
Subject: RE: TUNE ADD: Four Strong Winds From: Dan'l (inactive) Date: 13 Jul 99 - 07:18 AM It's not at the Mike Tyson website either... |
Subject: RE: TUNE ADD: Four Strong Winds From: George Seto - af221@chebucto.ns.ca Date: 13 Jul 99 - 12:10 AM Jeri, did you say the link I posted did NOT work? Strange. Will have to check on that. Works fine when I click on it. I was referring not to Four Strong Winds, but to the "Satisfied Mind" that he was looking for. |
Subject: RE: TUNE ADD: Four Strong Winds From: Frank of Toledo Date: 12 Jul 99 - 09:49 PM Ol' Porter Wagoner and the Wagonmasters did a great version of "Satisfied Mind". in the late 50's or early 60's. Ian Tyson's Four Strong Winds is one of my all time favorites to sing. A great song for the buskin' troupers...... |
Subject: Satisfied Mind From: Joe Offer Date: 12 Jul 99 - 08:42 PM "Satisfied Mind" is by Red Hayes and Jack Rhodes. It was written in 1955 - I would have suspected it was much earlier. I posted the lyrics in this thread (click) and I'm hoping somebody will be able to post the tune. -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: TUNE ADD: Four Strong Winds From: John in Brisbane Date: 12 Jul 99 - 08:09 PM Jeremiah, sorry but the wording of my post was amgiguous - I simply meant to say that the tune was not in the DT. For better or worse my goal with Mudcat is to add missing tunes whenever I can, and encourage others to do the same. Last time I checked there were still about 3,000 tunes missing. It seems like we're collectively adding many more lyrics than tunes these days.
I hope that at least one person out there didn't previously know the tune to Four Strong Winds.

Subject: RE: TUNE ADD: Four Strong Winds From: Jeri Date: 12 Jul 99 - 08:06 AM George, look for the album "I Outgrew the Wagon." It's there. (George's link works if you remove the quotation marks from the end of the address.) |
Subject: RE: TUNE ADD: Four Strong Winds From: Jeremiah McCaw Date: 12 Jul 99 - 07:33 AM It is in the database, twice. Go into search by title, and do the alphabetical thing. I seem to recall the chords are: G Am C D7 Satisfied Mind was written by R.Hayes/J.Rhodes, according to my songlist. |
Subject: RE: TUNE ADD: Four Strong Winds From: George Seto - af221@chebucto.ns.ca Date: 12 Jul 99 - 06:02 AM John, I checked the Ian Tyson Web-site, and there is no listing for a song of that title.

Subject: Tune Add: FOUR STRONG WINDS From: John in Brisbane Date: 12 Jul 99 - 02:14 AM This is the first song I learned on guitar. Just noticed that it's not in the DT when I went looking for Satisfied Mind, which maybe was written by Ian Tyson as well.
