Subject: RE: Banbury Festival 09 From: Merek'n'Dary Date: 24 Oct 09 - 01:28 PM Hi everybody Back from Carcassonne now - What a fairytale place although the inside of the Old Cite is a bit commercialised but the surrounding scenery is amazing! Our hotel was just under the old city walls which looks fantastic at night all lit up. We found an Irish bar on the last night so had a bit of a sing! Also found a wine festival ..... Merek in quite a state after that! Thanks for all your messages and Alice the pictures are amazing! Don't forget to put our Song and Ale weekend in your diaries 9th - 11th April 2010 at Drayton Leisure Golf Centre. Dary |
Subject: RE: Banbury Festival 09 From: Lenny's mum (inactive) Date: 19 Oct 09 - 01:59 PM L was at the festival, also came to the Banbury Cross Pub but didn't realise that the mudcat gathering was in the restaurant. Silly me! Sorry we missed it. |
Subject: RE: Banbury Festival 09 From: MoorleyMan Date: 18 Oct 09 - 07:28 PM Meant to post earlier but the Cat was down during the week... Hils - I did send you my apols for not making it to the Mudgather - indeed the whole weekend, as I was booked at Derby festival (which clashed this year). One year soon hopefully I'll be invited back to Banbury. Glad y'all had a great time tho'. |

Subject: RE: Banbury Festival 09 From: Andy Jackson Date: 14 Oct 09 - 10:47 AM Well you certainly didn't miss the point you loverlee girl, Mudgather up to it's normal standard. Note to Dary: Great new venue for the Mudgather. Friendly and helpful staff, good sized room with a singable acoustic. Best of all it's in the middle of town. Also a pub venue with plenty of room in the front bar for the regulars, who were also friendly by the way. The restaurant side may be a problem but we could always be persuaded to eat there! Perhaps if the mudgather was held over lunchtime they could put chocolate pudding on the menu? Andy |

Subject: RE: Banbury Festival 09 From: AliceH Date: 13 Oct 09 - 10:44 AM Hello everyone Thank you to all those involved in making the 10th Banbury Folk Festival such a wonderful weekend. Since getting back Monday lunch time, I have been busy tidying up my photos and have now put them in 2 albums in my public gallery on Picasa (part of Google). One album of Banbury itself (interesting buildings, view of the canal etc) and the other of outdoor photos taken during the festival - Morris dancing and Herbaceous Border outside the Rein Deer pub and Malc and Gill's singing boat trip from Tooley's boat yard. I was the mad woman running along the canal tow path with my camera! My photo albums are at http://picasaweb.google.com/alice3754 I have not posted to this site before so I am not sure for how much longer people will keep looking at this thread, so if you have email addresses of any one who was there, or any folk enthusiasts who could not make it, please feel free to give them the above link. Going on a walking holiday to Malta this weekend. Will I find Sammy's Bar, I wonder?! Looking forward to the next one! Best wishes, Alice |
Subject: RE: Banbury Festival 09 From: Sue the Borderer Date: 13 Oct 09 - 07:53 AM I thought the venue for the Mudgather was smashing. Lovely place to sing - and easy to pop in and out of. Enjoyed the late night sings at the Golf Club, but never made it during the day cos it's such a big chunk of time to commit to going back and forth. My special thanks go to Verna and Stephen Wass. - To Verna for organising all the morris and for inviting Herbaceous Border to join in Saturday's parade and do turn and turn about on Sunday on a 'proper dance spot' with a 'proper morris side'. (First time we've done that) - And to Steve, not just for playing for us again, but for giving the confidence to our 'new musicians' to play on their own once he had gone off to play for one of the other three sides he was playing for (plus the ceilidh) over the weekend. During the workshops we added a new dance to HB's repertoire. It's called the Banbury Rectangle. (Should have been the Banbury Cross, but that bit didn't work!) Huge thank you's to Derek and Mary and everyone else involved. Sue |
Subject: RE: Banbury Festival 09 From: GUEST,Moses Date: 13 Oct 09 - 07:32 AM I could only make the Saturday but had a great day which started with a leisurely canal boat trip and ended with a great concert at the Town Hall. Enjoyed the Mudgather and thought the venue very good. Fairly easy to find although even with a map we had to ask the locals (note to self - bring a magnifying glass with which to read small scale maps):o) Hope to make it a full weekend next year if time permits. Thanks again to Derek and Mary for another great festival. Christine |
