Tis a fine song indeed I feel I should point out that Ron asked me to put a tune to another Clan Alpine tale about changing the prop whilst at sea this song appears on my cd Echoes of Lowlands and also The compilation cd that Ron put out he does write exceedingly well and we have collaborated on another song Fish upon the wall about the demise of the fishing trade in Fleetwood.

I do love a good story bit I was particularly thrilled to find the photo of the Clan Alpine stranded in the paddy field, while looking for any image of such stranded ships.

I love songs that fill in the gaps of our nautical history.

This fine song was composed by Ron Baxter from information he received from a former crew member of the SS Clan Alpine, a cargo steamer that steamed back and forth between England and the Far East. With Ron's encouragement I've set it to a tune, lengthened the chorus, and changed a few other words (copy and paste into WORD/TIMES/12 to line up chords):

Notes:

According to Baxter this incident actually happened in 1961 when the SS Clan Alpine became stranded in a paddy field during a typhoon near Karnaphuli River, East Pakistan.
