I'm sure finance can't be a problem, so make it a New Years Resolution. I'll buy number One Copy. Cheers, Scowie. |

Subject: RE: Mick Haywood in Scarbro Hospital Nov 2010 From: GUEST,maggie ( Gloucester ) Date: 18 Dec 10 - 09:34 AM I don't know about you Mick, but I reckon I've missed a beat or two- the last time we saw each other at Roy and Jenny's do in October, you looked fighting fit!! Then I get a Christmas card from R&J telling me about the bypass.........I have just read all of these wonderful messages to you Mick and one of the last ones tells me you've had the Q Bypass and all went well, so I for one ,amongst thousands I'm sure, am very very pleased to read this. And now you'll be wanting to get back home and I hope they manage to release you soon so that you can enjoy a great Christmas....hitch a ride on Santa's sleigh if weather is bad. By the way, I went to see Show of Hands at Colston hall Bristol the other week- great!! Nothing like the flavour of folk. But you, my old friend, get better soon - or else!!! Lots love Maggiexx |

Subject: RE: Mick Haywood in Scarbro Hospital From: Gillie Date: 14 Dec 10 - 11:28 AM Ah, best of luck Mick and C-flat. The road to recovery is slow and you may have to learn how to "walk" before you attempt to "run" up those Abbey steps again. I'm sure those nurses won't be be bored of you bursting into a shantie or two, now and again! Best wishes also from Magician (double bypass in Dec '03) Clare xx |

Subject: RE: Mick Haywood in Scarbro Hospital From: Tyke Date: 13 Dec 10 - 10:05 PM Well-done Betsy I shall have to give Mick a ring again. I'll get out my snow chains out and survival kit. I remember driving back to Leeds one snowy Sunday night from Whitby fortunately I got stuck on Blue Bank so I headed for Thirsk instead. Just got through when they shut that route down. The good thing was that if I had got up Blue Bank I would have been stuck because they shut the A64 down. You can't mess about on them Moors in bad weather. Bored or not Mick your in the right place a fast run to Middlesboro, Scarbro or Hull from Whitby is not a good bet. Let's face it could be worse it could be Folk Week! |
Subject: RE: Mick Haywood in Scarbro Hospital From: Betsy Date: 13 Dec 10 - 05:56 PM Went to see Mick tonight - I was getting treatment to a long running eye problem in the same hospital so popped in the see him. He's bored stiff to tell the truth - he just wants them to "get on with" so that he can get home , but apparently there are good medical reasons which have beeen explained to him, for any percieved delays . 3 square meals a day and good quality,TV /Radio - but like everyone in such a situation , it's difficult to use your time constructively. Good news is, he seems to be positive about Liam's situation, and also, a mate of his is making sure the chickens are getting fed. In fact the only the shadow on the horizon is the weather forecast for the coming weekend .We've all had it very bad on this coastal area, and ,further inland on the N.Yorks moors at Blakey Ridge they had 16 Foot (or 5 Metres ) snow drifts, so lets hope the roads are passable between here and Whitby. |
Subject: RE: Mick Haywood in Scarbro Hospital From: scowie Date: 12 Dec 10 - 04:37 AM I'm meant the operation, not particularly the place, and to lighten the situation a little! The only way of getting through this is with a sense of humour, if you lose that you have lost everything. I think Mick has been opening his wallet too often, particulatly in the recent hard weather, and the cold has got in. No doubt he will learn from the experience and come back better than ever. Here's hoping so, Cheers, Scowie. |
Subject: RE: Mick Haywood in Scarbro Hospital From: GUEST,Steve Dawes Date: 11 Dec 10 - 09:15 PM Best wishes for a quick recovery, Mick... Helen and I hope to see you around soon! |
Subject: RE: Mick Haywood in Scarbro Hospital From: GUEST,Guest -Betsy Date: 11 Dec 10 - 08:12 PM Scowie and anyone else " how come everything is bigger and better in Yorkshire (including the snow drifts)" The Kiddo is in James Cook University Hospital - Middlesbrough . This place is the dog's bollocks especilly for heart problems, you couldn't be ANYWHERE better in Mick's situation - these guys are the full biz - ask Vin . |
Subject: RE: Mick Haywood in Scarbro Hospital From: C-flat Date: 11 Dec 10 - 01:08 PM Well Mick, Hopefully you're getting these messages relayed via your visitors. Since we met on ward 31 I've been discharged and have begun the slow road to full recovery. It is a slow road, but getting started is helped massively by being positive and upbeat, and I know from talking to you that you'll take this in your stride and that you'll be on your feet in no time. The staff in James Cook are outstanding and the best advice I can offer you is to go along with their suggestions. They really do know what'll help you to feel better more quickly, so if, on day 2, they suggest that you "might want to let them help you up and sit in the shower" or whatever, and all you want to do is assume the feotal position under the covers, fight the urge to tell them where to go, reach for your reserves of plucky, pleasant demeanour, and let them lead on. A bypass is more invasive than you were expecting but, no doubt, you've seen the number of bypass patients going through that ward, myself included, and you've seen how fast their recoveries are. Consider, I was in theatre on Monday. Monday?!!! OK I'm still a bit sore but I came home on Friday and I'm sitting at my computer, under instruction to take it easy. I can do that and so can you. Good luck and best wishes and please keep us posted. C-flat |
Subject: RE: Mick Haywood in Scarbro Hospital From: GUEST,Tig Date: 07 Dec 10 - 07:40 PM I've heard of going the whole hog but don't you think this is a bit drastic? At least once they let you out again there will be no excuse for not running up the 199 steps! Unfortunately I don't think voice replacements are done as part of the same proceedure so that will have to stay :-) Stay warm. Lots of love and hugs all round Chris and John xxxxx |

Subject: RE: Mick Haywood in Scarbro Hospital From: Tyke Date: 06 Dec 10 - 11:33 AM As you know they transferred Mick to James Cook on Friday he has had his procedure. However they have told him that needs a triple bypass, which they can't do until he has recovered from today's malarkey, this will be in about ten days. I have spoken to Mick and also to Angie on the phone and they both seem fine but a bit shell-shocked. I know with out them saying so how much they have appreciated everyone best wishes. |
Subject: RE: Mick Haywood in Scarbro Hospital From: Tyke Date: 04 Dec 10 - 09:59 AM I rang James Cook's Hospital for an update and the Matron told me that it's absolutely freezing in Middlesborough. Mick, she said, was so board and missing Angie that he has been standing by the window since Friday. Matron said that if it gets any colder they are going to have to let him back inside the Hospital. |
Subject: RE: Mick Haywood in Scarbro Hospital From: scowie Date: 04 Dec 10 - 02:52 AM Any news anyone? I just thought the old charmer might do with a bit of refreshment, and go to the top of the list for once. |
Subject: RE: Mick Haywood in Scarbro Hospital From: Tyke Date: 03 Dec 10 - 06:31 PM Mick will enjoy watching the procedure on the TV monitor I know I did and afterwards I was raring to go. Had to lie flat for two hours whilst eating my tea (Ham Sandwich). Nearly got indigestion though the Guy in the next bed who had the same procedure was carrying on as if he had Man Flue. Oh and I don't know how often they clean under the beds in the LGI because I found Twenty a twenty pound note under mine. |

Hope you are feeling better by now. I know Batley billygoats are strong buggers so you will be up and singing again before long and anyway it is probably not so cold in there. |
Subject: RE: Mick Haywood in Scarbro Hospital From: C-flat Date: 03 Dec 10 - 06:44 AM You're right about that Betsy. I was given the choice,by the consultant in Sunderland, of either going to Freemans in Newcastle or James Cook in Middlesbrough, but with the strongest hint that I should choose Middlesbrough. (wink, wink) Apparently the surgeons there are independantly publishing their own results which suggests that they are supremely confident in what they're doing!! Fingers crossed ! |
Subject: RE: Mick Haywood in Scarbro Hospital From: GUEST,Guest - Betsy Date: 03 Dec 10 - 05:51 AM Mick and CFlat , You're in the best place possible James Cook University Hospital Middlesbrough.
