Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: kendall Date: 26 Apr 12 - 02:08 PM It's on its way. Thanks, Mate |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: GUEST,999 Date: 26 Apr 12 - 09:59 AM I remember now, Kendall. Two copies of your final CD. Got some people here who like the kind of music you do--I'm one of them. I keep one CD and lend out the other with the admonition that "Yes, you can borrow this to listen to but do not copy it, please." Who knows, it might generate a few sales. |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: kendall Date: 25 Apr 12 - 07:34 PM Guest 999, I'm not clear on which CDs you want? |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: GUEST,kendall Date: 04 Apr 12 - 12:01 PM Gordon Bok, Ann Dodson and, I believe Nick Apollonio. |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: frogprince Date: 03 Apr 12 - 08:27 PM Hey, Cap'n? Who was backing you up on Grig A Lee? |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: jacqui.c Date: 01 Apr 12 - 08:17 AM Spaw - ROTFLMAO. |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: kendall Date: 31 Mar 12 - 12:42 PM Well, well, well. I take back almost everything I said about you! |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: catspaw49 Date: 31 Mar 12 - 11:43 AM I want you all to know that, fool that I am, I actually ordered this and received it! I spent several days preparing myself for the listening experience;read---Steeling myself to tolerate Kendall for as long as required. As it turned out, much to my surprise because Kendall had so many bad things to say about this CD, it was fine! My head didn't explode nor did my nutsack and this generally means that I like something. When I remove a cd and give it a frisbee sling you ccan believe I hate it and will never listen to it again. Kendall's did not suffer that fate and I would begrudgingly tell all of you that the old fart is an okay listen. If you can, you need to get one!!!! Spaw |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: kendall Date: 31 Mar 12 - 11:19 AM Huh? |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: gnu Date: 31 Mar 12 - 11:11 AM I am an engineer. If you need a design for foundations, water, sewer, roadways, traffic systems, dams, seaports, airports, or light structural (up to 4 stories), give me a call. Note that I don't do bridges. |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: GUEST,kendall Date: 30 Mar 12 - 07:25 PM Well, a few of you responded. |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: GUEST,kendall Date: 22 Mar 12 - 01:39 PM Big sigh of relief. My engineer is going to be out of the country until sometime in May, so this new project is on the back burner for a while. However, you may still have a double CD of Diamonds in the rough with I Remember loving you, or just Diamonds in the rough if you already have I remember.... |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: frogprince Date: 22 Mar 12 - 11:58 AM ...too good.... |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: frogprince Date: 22 Mar 12 - 11:56 AM Kendall, my attempted humor got a little too dumb. I have relatives who always make banana cream pie when they know I'm coming. I generally take a piece, finish it, and then say "Something about that isn't quite right; I need another piece, to see if I can figure out what's wrong". The pie is always to good to have just one serving. So is your CD. : ) |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: GUEST,kendall Date: 22 Mar 12 - 09:25 AM I do have a copy of that evening, Charlie, and I'm forever indebted to Judy for it. |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: Charley Noble Date: 22 Mar 12 - 07:47 AM Kendall- "The Basque" certainly tells a compelling story. We certainly hope you manage to salvage something from that old Portland Folk Club recording. You were in fine form that evening. Charley Noble |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: GUEST,kendall Date: 22 Mar 12 - 07:15 AM Have you sent an order? I've only gotten three orders so far. Frog, if there is a problem I'll make it good; just return it for an exchange. |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: Rapparee Date: 21 Mar 12 - 09:56 PM How's come I don't have mine? |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: frogprince Date: 21 Mar 12 - 09:24 PM Mine came in the mail this afternoon. I played it while I did some photoshop stuff. Something about it didn't sound quite right, so I played it again. I'm still not sure about it, so I'm gonna hafta play it again soon to figure out what it is. : ) This may not be a studio recording (Kendall was up front about that) but it's more than good enough to enjoy a very nice selection of songs well sung. Love it! Dean |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: kendall Date: 20 Mar 12 - 04:55 PM Would you believe I just came across a recording of a performance I did in 1994? I thought I posted this but can't find it. Some pretty good stuff on this 2 disc CD set. Frozen Logger The Folkie (Rude version) The Basque Last thing on my mind Come by the hills Pipers refrain Rolling Home Big Ellie Mae (a little bit rude) Many off hand remarks and stories too. |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: kendall Date: 18 Mar 12 - 07:24 PM I haven't decided to release it yet. There were glitches and off hand remarks that I made during that taping, and some in the middle of the song. The writer might not like it. |

Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: maeve Date: 12 Mar 12 - 11:01 PM Good suggestion, gnu. Here's the new thread: Kendall's Musical History, by Special Request |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: gnu Date: 12 Mar 12 - 02:22 PM I think it's a great idea and sure many other folks here would like to read it. Allow me to suggest a separate thread, titled appropriately, for ease of future filtering/searches. |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: kendall Date: 12 Mar 12 - 05:42 AM Guest999, Been thinking about your suggestion, and, although I can't imagine why you or anyone would be interested in my musical history, I'm surrounded by things I don't understand! What would be the best way to do this? I could post it here, or make a tape that could be made into a cd by a friend of mine. Suggestions please. |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: GUEST,kendall Date: 11 Mar 12 - 04:37 PM That is so thoughtful of you! :-) |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: deepdoc1 Date: 11 Mar 12 - 01:43 PM That would be wonderful! I have reciprocated by autographing the check ... ;o) |

Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: kendall Date: 10 Mar 12 - 09:06 AM Good. Now if everyone follows through I can afford to by more CDs. :-) |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: deepdoc1 Date: 10 Mar 12 - 08:26 AM I have "I Remember Loving You" (great album!) and I am very interested in "Diamonds..." - will send check this weekend if you have any left. I am also down for any stories, tales, etc. Thanks again. JimB |

Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: kendall Date: 08 Mar 12 - 08:16 PM In the BS section. |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: GUEST,kendall Date: 08 Mar 12 - 08:04 PM Jeri, I promised you a free copy for your suggestion of a title for the new CD. There were many good ones, and we thought yours was the most appropriate."Maine Lies Downeast" does it for me. I guess I'd better make a new thread to end the confusion. Look for FATHER FELL DOWN THE WELL. More Maine humor, this one will be in book form. I'm meeting with the publisher on March 13th. |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: gnu Date: 08 Mar 12 - 03:42 PM New project? Leather Jackets and Llama Lore? |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: Jeri Date: 08 Mar 12 - 03:27 PM Oops...why I originally wanted to post: Thanks for the payment! I wonder if you'll feel the same after enough people ask you what the heck it means. |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: Jeri Date: 08 Mar 12 - 03:24 PM Giraffe stuff |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: Jeri Date: 08 Mar 12 - 03:22 PM Giraffes just choose not to be vocal, but they sound a little like swans when they are. Neither critter sounds like Kendall. |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: GUEST,999 Date: 08 Mar 12 - 02:06 PM They too have seven bones in their necks. |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: GUEST,kendall Date: 08 Mar 12 - 12:15 PM No Swan, I now sound more like a Giraffe. |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: Duane D. Date: 08 Mar 12 - 09:43 AM I'm a bit uncomfortable with the "Swan Song" title. I've heard most of your recordings and you don't sound at all like a Swan. |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: jacqui.c Date: 08 Mar 12 - 09:05 AM Spaw - your copy of Diamonds In The Rough will be mailed today. Rest assured that the requisite amount of cursing and grumbling went into the making of the finished package along with blood sweat and tears up to and maybe above the price of the CD. :o) |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: GUEST,kendall Date: 08 Mar 12 - 08:10 AM I've had the Devil's own works getting a publisher for the new book of Maine humor. I don't think I have the energy to start another one, especially one of such personal history. I am, however, willing to give it serious thought. Jeri, a free copy of Maine Lies Downeast is on its way to you from Folk Legacy. It's payment for your title. |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: GUEST Date: 07 Mar 12 - 10:37 PM "I might consider making a tape just for you. I doubt that it would have broad interest." Listen up, I'll accept that and when I bootleg 'em, you get half. OK, 99%, but get 'er done. I really respect your work. B |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: Jeri Date: 07 Mar 12 - 08:42 PM I want one! (...and one of the "Diamonds in the Cellar" CD,of course.) Seriously, you sing songs that aren't exclusive to you. The stories you have are uniquely yours. It's not just that no one else can tell them, but no one else even knows them. True, you can't steal them, but you can sure tell a story! You probably have enough so you could put a book together and you won't have to leave things out to make them fit, but it would be worth doing, IMO. |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: kendall Date: 07 Mar 12 - 08:25 PM Guest999, I feel a bit silly addressing you like that because I know who you are. Anyway, I've never given that idea any thought but I might consider making a tape just for you. I doubt that it would have broad interest. |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: kendall Date: 07 Mar 12 - 08:22 PM LOL! Sandra, I'm not quite ready to announce my next project in a separate thread, but I'll tell you here that it is a double CD of me reading my book back about 20 years ago. It's renamed from Stories told in the kitchen, which was in print for over 30 years, to MAINE LIES DOWNEAST. I expect the first delivery in about a week. |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: GUEST,999 Date: 07 Mar 12 - 08:06 PM LOL Kendall, I'm in for two. However, please let Jacqui know it's gonna be about ten days, so wait to do the CDs on my behalf. What I would love to hear/read is you talking about your life in music. I have had the pleasure and honour of listening to your music and choice of songs for about seven or eight years now. You're a gruff old sob, but you have class. And timing. I will admit that although you do not have the best singing voice I ever heard, and although you choose songs I wouldn't necessarily have chosen, you are truly great, because you trust and believe in the songs you do. I love your work, and because of that, I think you'd best get yer ass off the stove and do the job, else we all will miss a piece of history we should have. I mean that. BM PS I 'borrowed' one of your tales from the book; I mentioned on a few occasions that you wrote the tale. The applause? well, I accepted them on your behalf. I also mentioned you told it half as well as I do. LOL! B |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 07 Mar 12 - 07:52 PM I just ordered mine & eagerly await details of your next project sandra |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: kendall Date: 07 Mar 12 - 07:27 PM You slow types are really gonna freak out when I announce my next project. :-) |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: GUEST,999 Date: 07 Mar 12 - 07:26 PM Jesus, Joseph and Mary, he's on the computer again. OK. How many do you still need? |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: kendall Date: 07 Mar 12 - 07:21 PM Hey, it's my freekin' cd! :-) I'm old and indecisive. Jacqui suggested Warts and All, but the labels are already made. All I need now is some orders in the mail. |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: GUEST,999 Date: 07 Mar 12 - 06:55 PM Oh, for crissake, now it's got a title? Jacqui, if you're reading any of this stuff, the message I sent pertains to whatever this thread is about. (Keep Kendall away from the computer.) |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: JedMarum Date: 07 Mar 12 - 06:27 PM I am looking forward to it, whatever the title is! |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: catspaw49 Date: 07 Mar 12 - 04:23 PM Should have asked Karen sooner about the name. She suggested "The Cellar Tapes"........... Spaw |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: GUEST,kendall Date: 07 Mar 12 - 09:29 AM Sorry, Don, we won't be coming to Old Songs. It also has a new name, Diamonds in the rough. Send me $12.00 and a return address and I will see that you get one. |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: GUEST,DonMeixner Date: 06 Mar 12 - 11:51 PM Bring a stack to Old Songs Kendall. I'll shill them for you in the jewelry booth. And I'll want one for my own as well. I'd change the title to: Maybe Just One More. Don |

Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: catspaw49 Date: 06 Mar 12 - 02:42 PM Finally dawned on me what this thread title reminds me of........A Mighty Wind where the Mitch character is being shown on his lasty album cover digging his grave with a tombstone next to it looking decrepit and ratty. The album is titled Calling It Quits Spaw |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: catspaw49 Date: 06 Mar 12 - 02:20 PM Better if you had also mooned the camera.......... Spaw |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: GUEST,kendall Date: 06 Mar 12 - 02:16 PM Spaw, try to keep up. I said we settled on a name, Diamonds in the rough. You will hate the picture; it's me walking away past a beat up old car with my leather jacket hanging down behind me. That says it all.:-) (Jacqui chose the photo) |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: catspaw49 Date: 06 Mar 12 - 01:56 PM I don't care. Hell, the guy who married Karen and I got his license out of an ad in the back of Rolling Stone so as far as I''m concerned Kendall can use the ghost of Mother Teresa or Father Mulcahy........................ Spaw |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: SINSULL Date: 06 Mar 12 - 01:37 PM More likely, a priestess. This is Kendall, you know. |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: catspaw49 Date: 06 Mar 12 - 01:30 PM The only way I'm buyin'this thing is with a title change! Or a plain brown wrapper..............If you insist on "FINAL" then the cover art has to be a picture of a priest giving you last rights............ SpAw |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: kendall Date: 06 Mar 12 - 01:00 PM And I don't ? :-) I have exactly one dozen on hand, so, if you want one, grab it and growl. |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: GUEST,999 Date: 06 Mar 12 - 08:18 AM I've written to Jacqui. She makes sense. |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: jacqui.c Date: 06 Mar 12 - 08:14 AM For those who want to use PayPal - send me a PM. |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: kendall Date: 06 Mar 12 - 07:38 AM KT, I'm afraid Jacqui has dibs on almost everything I have. :-) Joe, it ain't luck. They go for the primitive look; I shamble about the landscape clad in an animal skin and they pretend that I'm bad news. They like to play with fire, but they know they won't get burned. Right, girls? Jacqui is always there with a bucket of water... Gordon doesn't want to be recorded, and I don't know any of the other performers, so, Jacqui and I are it. Sandra, I'll send the info in a PM. |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 06 Mar 12 - 03:28 AM as KT says, I'll take whatever it is you're sellin' please send Paypal details when you want the money sandra |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: Joe Offer Date: 05 Mar 12 - 09:49 PM Well, ya know, all those one-name people keep going on their "final retirement tours" and last recordings for forty years or more. Cher and Streisand are doing it, why not Kendall? You just watch. Forty years from now, you'll still see Kendall wearing something slinky like a black leather jacket, and the women falling all over him just like they do now. Would that I could have his luck. -Joe- P.S. Kendall, can you set one of those "Swan Dive" CDs aside for me? |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: KT Date: 05 Mar 12 - 09:15 PM ...including the CD that will be made at your upcoming performance with Gordon! "Final CD" my...ahem...foot!! (well, one can hope) |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: KT Date: 05 Mar 12 - 09:11 PM I have "I Remember Loving You" and I'll take whatever it is you're sellin'! |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: kendall Date: 05 Mar 12 - 08:58 PM I figure that so few of you have I remember loving you that it won't be noticed.:-) |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: GUEST Date: 05 Mar 12 - 08:38 PM Sandra, Jacqui has a pay pal account. Midchuck, there are some repetitions, but I don't remember if they are the same recordings. I'm throwing in Iremember Loving you because Diamonds in the rough only has 13 songs. You may order just one if you wish, take your pick. |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: Bobert Date: 05 Mar 12 - 07:59 PM BTW, I don't like the name of this thread... Final, my butt!!! Yeah hear me, Capt'n??? Get off the couch and get to work... No slackin'... Ya' hear??? YA' HEAR??? B;~) |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: Cats Date: 05 Mar 12 - 05:57 PM Can I use PayPal |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: Midchuck Date: 05 Mar 12 - 05:54 PM I'm confused. About half the songs listed in the first post are on "I Remember Loving You." Are they the same performances? Peter |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 05 Mar 12 - 04:48 PM & what about those of us who don't use $USD or sterling? anyone use Paypal? & is it one or 2 CDs? sandra |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: GUEST,songbob Date: 05 Mar 12 - 03:23 PM Too bad you're not from the South; you could call it "The Final Drawl." In any case, I'm sure we'll want one, once details are available. Bob Clayton Jennifer Woods |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: kendall Date: 05 Mar 12 - 02:10 PM It's back and working like a charm. Now, let's see who is serious about ordering this rare set of two CDs. We will be coming to the UK in May, so if anyone in England, Scotland or Wales wants one we can either hand deliver or mail them from somewhere in England. That will save you the international postage rate. A personal check in pounds Sterling will do, we can cash them over there. So, my mailing address is: 120 Sawyer road, Scarborough Maine 04074 USA All I need is a check for $12.00 and a return address. Your move. By the way, we settled on a name. DIAMONDS IN THE ROUGH. I was looking at my Granddaughter's dog at the time it hit me. Her name is Diamond. The dog, not the Granddaughter. |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: Lonesome EJ Date: 05 Mar 12 - 11:02 AM And put me on the list for a cd when available. |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: Lonesome EJ Date: 05 Mar 12 - 11:01 AM Kendall, sometimes if you remove the active driver for the cd/dvd device and then reinstall it the computer will find it again. My guess is its a software conflict issue and not a hardware problem. |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: Leadfingers Date: 05 Mar 12 - 10:56 AM IF the CD does happen I want !!!! |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: Rapparee Date: 05 Mar 12 - 10:22 AM Yeah, I think tee shirts advertising "Kendall Morse: The Lust CD" would be good. Maybe in pink and red. |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: SINSULL Date: 05 Mar 12 - 09:42 AM Sounds like you two are "away with the Marys". LOL I knew if I waited long enough your senility would catch up with mine. |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: jacqui.c Date: 05 Mar 12 - 09:18 AM It will be worth the bother once the guy gets Kendall's pc back working properly. Right now it won't recognise that there is a blank disc in the burner. Same discs as we've used for recording in the past and once on this new machine. Hopefully the repair guy will fix it. We're waiting on Bob Coltman to agree that we can use his title for the CD. Once we've got that done we'll be in business. well, Jacqui would take Umbrage and more. A HELL of a lot more Rap - starting with bodily parts, I think. |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: kendall Date: 05 Mar 12 - 08:40 AM My recording equipment is in the shop as I write. I sometimes wonder if it is all worth the bother. |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: katlaughing Date: 04 Mar 12 - 11:31 PM Call it, "Until I Get Older..." Art Thieme did this with old recordings of his and it was a big hit, remember, "The Older I Get, the Better I Was?" Yours will be a big hit, too, with all of us. Please put me on the list, too!! I'd rather have a "field" recording than a glossy, masterminded whateveryacallit...:-) luvyakat |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: catspaw49 Date: 04 Mar 12 - 11:16 PM Llama, lama..........Amos would likely go for either one in a pinch................ Spaw |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: Rapparee Date: 04 Mar 12 - 10:45 PM There are animals on Mudcat. There's the llama, Seamus, and Gluon, to mention but three. Then there is the Tree Lobster. And sheep. And other things. |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: EBarnacle Date: 04 Mar 12 - 10:20 PM But have you been to a 4-llama? What's this llama crap of a sudden? |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: gnu Date: 04 Mar 12 - 10:19 PM 9... yup. It takes a natural talent to tell a story or sing a story or write and phrase either properly. Cap'n Morse gotter down eh. |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: GUEST,999 Date: 04 Mar 12 - 10:08 PM Tell ya what, Kendall: In those days (and those days were not that long ago) no one knew what mixing and mastering were. Mostly we were trying to get the words, voice and instruments on the tape. If ya did that, ya done good. I hope this doesn't detract from this thread. Forty some-odd years back I was on a record. Since then I've done four or five recordings. My next one will be voice and guitar, because I am fuckin' fed up with all this digital crap. Field recordings? Yeah. I have one of them and lemme tell you what: it ain't bad. In the parlance, I can do it with my guitar and my words. THEN if ya don't like it, I ain't very good at all. Or you cain't listen worth shit. As I've said earlier, and as I've said before to you--in public and private--you have the best timing I ever heard in song or speaking, and if anyone wants to argue that with me, get in touch. Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: kendall Date: 04 Mar 12 - 09:30 PM I just want to make sure you all know that these are field recordings. The mixing is not great in places and there are pops here and there because of no mitten on the mike. |
Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: Rapparee Date: 04 Mar 12 - 09:19 PM Ah, Amos and others... "The one-L lama, he's a priest The two-L llama, he's a beast And I will bet a silk pajama There isn't any three-L lllama." Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: kendall Date: 04 Mar 12 - 02:07 PM I'm sorry folks, but there is a major screw up! Forget everything I said after the first post. It's too complicated to explain but there was a mix up in the liner notes. Maybe someone will delete all the confusing stuff. |

Subject: RE: Kendall's final CD From: kendall Date: 03 Mar 12 - 01:01 PM I thought Swan Song was appropriate because I will never make another. I also hope to have a few copies of my book on CDs. Charlie, I want people to buy them, not burn them! :-) |
