Banjoman - There's a good fingerpicking book called "Fingers and Frets" written by John Pearse.

Cheers

Bugsy

Not that I want those poor starving corporadoes that own Borders to lose a sale, but...if you go to www.elderly.com you can tap into the finest selection of the music you are looking for...plus instruments...from folks that walk the walk...and with some blind luck, someone will turn the important part of this post into "blue clicky things".

Banjoman,

At homespuntapes.com you might find what you want. It's Happy Traums' site and he has a wide variety of instructional material in various formats by various artists including fingerpicking and flatpicking books and tapes for beginners. Regards F

Dear Banjoman:
You're just not on the "right" mailing lists! I fear that we are on every imaginable mailing list and with the holidays coming up we are receiving 5 lbs a day of glossy catalogs.
In addition to Rediscover Music, I receive catalogs from "Ladyslipper" (Wymens' Music), and several other off-the-beaten-path music houses. I also receive catalogs from Happy Traums organization (I've forgotten the name) that has a large selection instructional books, videos, CDs, and tapes. If others don't provide names and points of contact, I'll do so when next I receive these catalogs.
Bye the way, does CO stand for Colorado? If so let me know when/if you get down to OK. We have a great get-together on the 1st Sat of each month in OKC. (2nd Sat of Jan 2000)

Good hunting and Happy chords

I'd like to support places like Rediscover and Collectors' Choice, but it seems their CD's come out to almost twenty bucks apiece, so I usually order their stuff from CDNow. Rediscover has the Folk Era label and Collector's Choice has their own label, too - so I guess my buying their label at least makes SOME contribution to them.

I did find the website at www.rediscovermusic.com Their selection is wonderful but they're a bit spendy. I guess the cost is relevant to how badly you want the music ... moonchild

folk1234 ... do they have a website? Actually, I guess I could just try to find it myself! Thanks for the lead ... moonchild

About every 2 months I get a catalog from "Rediscover Music". They specialize in music from the folk revival period. I have found them to be reliable and their prices are fair. I don't have a current catalog so I can't give you any contact info.

If you have a "Borders" nearby, I have found a wonderful selection of folk/trad music and much of it by "old folkies" ... moonchild

B'Man, I find a lot of music in thrift stores, yard sales and used record stores. It takes time, but the occasional gem makes the search worth it. Also, I believe there are collector's papers which feature ads, and there are many music sites and auctions rycheer on the web. Good luck to you.
BTW I am glad there is another fan of the Travelers 3 out there. If you are lucky enough to find their 'Live! Live! Live!' album, the last bit of applause on most cuts is that of your humble correspondent in his youthful, smart-ass days.--John

Hi, there. I know there are more out there, but I did a quick search on Yahoo, using "vintage 60's folk recordings" and came up with 12 listings under just "Odetta" at Records By Mail, so I would guess they have some of the others, too. Have fun!

the URL is http://www.recordsbymail.com/home.html

does anyone know of any sights where you can find recordings of folk artists of the '60's. ie: Odetta, Buffy St. Marie, Travelers 3, and so on? Also, could someone recommend a good beginners Flat Picking book and finger picking book. Thanks much

Fred
