Subject: RE: Lyrics? I Am Sailing (Rod Stewart) From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 27 May 02 - 02:45 PM Well, I didn't much like Rod Stewart's version, but it's a good song. But I never heard the Sutherland Brthers version - and I can't imagine that a "bright uptempo" approach would sound too good. The tempo was the only thing I felt sounded about right in Rod Stewart's version. |
Subject: RE: Lyrics? I Am Sailing (Rod Stewart) From: Gypsy Date: 27 May 02 - 01:42 PM Thanks, Sorcha.....there was no way i could even begin to find it without the title! Getting the entire thing is a real plus. Did he EVER write anything? Or just find these really neat tunes, and mainstream them? |
Subject: RE: Lyrics? I Am Sailing (Rod Stewart) From: Geoff the Duck Date: 27 May 02 - 01:31 PM The original Sutherland Brothers recording was a bright up-tempo number. Rod Stewart recorded it as the theme tune to a fairly extended fly-on-the-wall documentary series following the sailors on the Royal Navy ship, the Ark Royal. The Rod Stewart version was a dirge, and in fact ruined the song for me. It also was the time period which marked Rod's transformation form a gutsy rock and roller into what he later became. Quack!

Subject: RE: Lyrics? I Am Sailing (Rod Stewart) From: Scabby Douglas Date: 27 May 02 - 05:40 AM The song was by (I think) Gavin Sutherland, who with his brother Ian formed The Sutherland Brothers (duhhh..) and Quiver. Other notable songs were "The Arms of Mary", "The Dream Kid", "You Got Me Anyway" I always hated Rod Stewart's cover of Sailing - the original version was stark, simple and evocative.. not lush, overorchestrated and self-indulgent. (in my opinion) Cheers Steven

Subject: RE: Lyrics? I Am Sailing (Rod Stewart) From: Celtic Soul Date: 26 May 02 - 05:38 PM Peter Timmerman quotes the lyrics with which I am familar. Someone please tell me Rod Stewart didn't do this song...please for mercy's sake. I'd recomend Grace Griffiths version on Connemaras "Siren Song" CD, personally. |
Subject: ADDPOP: Rhythm of My Heart From: Sorcha Date: 26 May 02 - 03:03 PM Here ya go, Gypsy.
RHYTHM OF MY HEART
Across the street the river runs
The flames are getting higher in effigy
Oh rhythm of my heart is beating like a drum
Photographs and kerosene light up my darkness
Oh the rhythm of my heart is beating like a drum
Oh I've got lightning in my veins
Oh the rhythm of my heart is beating like a drum
Oh the rhythm of my heart is beating like a drum
The rhythm of my heart is beating like a drum

Subject: ADDPOP: I Am Sailing (Rod Stewart) From: Peter Timmerman Date: 18 May 97 - 02:37 PM Sailing, I am sailing, home again, cross the sea, I am sailing, stormy waters, to be near you, to be free I am flying, I am flying, like a bird, cross the sky, I am flying, passing high clouds, to be with you, to be free. Can you hear me? Can you hear me? Through the dark night, far away. I am dying, forever trying, to be with you, who can say? Yours, Peter |
Subject: RE: Lyrics? I Am Sailing (Rod Stewart) From: Kyra.comroe@vgamer.com Date: 18 May 97 - 01:19 AM If you're thinking of the song I'm thinking of... "Oh the rhythm of my heart is beating like a drum With the words 'I love you' rolling on my tongue Oh and never will I roam For I know my place is home Where the ocean meets the sky, I'll be sailing..." Right song? |
