There is a version called ALL THE PRETTY LITTLE HORSES in the book Children's Songbag by Paul DuBois Jacobs & Jennifer Swender (Salt Lake City: Gibbs Smith, 2005.) This page happens to be viewable with Google Books (click the link). You can also use WorldCat.org to find it in a library.

On an album called "Songs of Earth and Sky," Art Podell and Paul Potash (as Art & Paul)did a rather extraordinary version of this song back in the late 1950's. If you can find it, it's worth a listen. I first saw the lyrics in a Lomax book given to me just prior to that. A very pretty song.

Hi -
You may be having trouble finding the song because it has so many names. The Traditional Ballad Index (click) lists a number of sources for the song, including Carl Sandburg's American Songbag and three books by John and/or Alan Lomax, Folks Songs of North America, American Ballads & Folk Songs (click), and Folk Song USA.
We have the lyrics and a MIDI tune in our own Digital Tradition Folk Song Database (click), and it has been converted into "sheet Music" at a website called sniff.numachi.com (click).
I'll add to this list when I find more.
Hope that helps.

I thought that this was one of the lullabies that everyone knew at least part of, like "Rock a by Baby." I guess it's not as well known as I thought.

I believe the song is usually called "Hush a Bye". The lyrics I recall are the ones that Peter, Paul and Mary recorded.

Hush a bye, don't you cry
Go to sleep, you little baby
When you wake, you shall have
All the pretty little horses
Dapples and grays, Pintos and bays
All the pretty little horses

Way down yonder, in the meadow
There's a lonesome little lamby
Birds and butterflies fluttering round its eyes
Poor little thing is crying 'Mammy'
