No confirmation on their accuracy, but I found what appear to be the lyrics to the song here. Seems like there's at least 1 typo (namely, "after votin' time is through) but I've left the whole thing as presented in the document aside from adding a few punctuation marks for readability and dividing the song into 4 line stanzas because that's what I thought felt right.

EQUALITY (1973)
(Kate Wolf/Lionel Kilberg)
Originally released in 1973 on the Lionel Kilberg album We Walked by the Water (Vol. 6 of Kilberg's Sociologically Singing series of LPs). The album was subsequently re-released in 1995 on the Gadfly label as a Kate Wolf album, BREEZES. The album musicians are: Kate Wolf - lead vocals & guitar; Lionel Kilberg - backing vocals, bass & kazoo; Don Coffin - backing vocals, guitar, mandolin & harmonic. See note above under the Album Chronology.

Equality don't mean a lazy kind of livin'
Equality don't mean you do the least you can
Equality don't mean the other guy keeps givin'
Equality says every man's a man

Equality don't mean only in the schoolroom
Equality don't mean after votin' time it's through
Equality says now, the jobs are all wide open
It's bout erasing colour, to every me and you

Nobody says, We're special
Nobody says, Me first
The water goes to everyone
And the more unequal thirst

Equality don't mean a chance for gettin' even
Equality don't mean you take somebody's place
Equality don't mean the other guy's leavin'
Equality means folks, don't judge you by your face

Nobody says, We're special
Nobody says, Me first
The water goes to everyone
And the more unequal thirst

Equality don't mean a lazy kind of livin'
Equality don't mean you do the least you can
Equality don't mean the other guy keeps givin'
Equality says every man's a man

You can read the liner notes from the original 1973 album here, where they say describe the song as follows: "2. EQUALITY - Means different things to different people. I've discussed it with people for twenty years it's hard to remember two people who didn't limit, categorize or in some way try to set controls on the equality of others." (not much of an explanation on its meaning, but it's nice to see what the artists write about it).

The 1995 Gadfly album appears to still be available here via Amazon, CDBaby, or via paper mail/email communication.

PS, the lyrics were written by Lionel Kilberg and the music by Kate Wolf.

I looked at that list of tracks of the record re-release by Gadfly in 1995 and it's not on the track listing.

email request: I'm having a dickins of a time finding anything online either at her website, here or elsewhere about this song although it plays regularly on my Pandora stations (Kate Wolf and Folk, As Pure As I Can Make It). Any thoughts? Help? Next time, I'll look at what Pandora says as to what album or if a single.

John

I joined the San Francisco Folk Music Club about 10 years after Kate Wolf died, so I never had the chance to meet her.

Her Website (click) says Kate sang this song on a collaboration with Lionel Kilberg on an album titled We Walked By The Water -
Socially Singing Volume 6
on Shoostryng Records (1973). In 1995, Gadfly Records re-released this album as Breezes, attribruted not to Kate Wolf.

But so far, I can't find the album or the cut or the lyrics. Can anybody help?

-Joe-
