Subject: RE: ADD: Get Rhythm (Johnny Cash) From: Jerry Rasmussen Date: 05 May 21 - 07:20 PM Hey, Joe. Maybe I'm taking the definition of "Traditional" too traditionally... Get Rhythm is definitely not traditional in the way it is used in folk music circles. The Paton's considered my songs as In the Tradtion, or the "new tradition." |
Subject: RE: ADD: Get Rhythm (Johnny Cash) From: Joe Offer Date: 05 May 21 - 05:52 PM Hi, Jerry - I can't see where "Get Rhythm" is inappropriate for Mudcat. It's a classic. A lot of us sing classic songs that aren't purely traditional, especially those of us in the US. I have American friends that like to sing English and Scottish traditional songs, but I tend to prefer to sing songs of American vintage - even if they're not purely traditional. -Joe- |
Subject: RE: ADD: Get Rhythm (Johnny Cash) From: gillymor Date: 05 May 21 - 01:34 PM That's one of my favorite Johnny Cash songs and they do a good job of it. Rosie Flores and Ry Cooder did notable covers as well, Cooder's with a Tex-Mex flavor featuring Flaco Jimenez. Ry Cooder Get Rhythm ,that'll get you out of bed in the morning. And of course the original by the man himself is hard to beat. |
Subject: RE: ADD: Get Rhythm (Johnny Cash) From: Jerry Rasmussen Date: 05 May 21 - 12:54 PM Thanks, Joe. I won't do it again. I really want to honor Mudcat. I don't want to stretch Mudcat's purpose. I think most of my posts are more appropriate for Facebook. I greatly appreciate it. When I feel I have a post that fit's Mudcat, I will submit it. Best to you and all the Catters. |
Subject: RE: ADD: Get Rhythm (Johnny Cash) From: Joe Offer Date: 05 May 21 - 12:48 PM I got the lyrics from one of "those" Websites, but AZLyrics is usually pretty good. https://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/johnnycash/getrhythm.html GET RHYTHM (Johnny Cash) Hey, get rhythm when you get the blues Come on, get rhythm when you get the blues Get a rock 'n' roll feelin' in your bones Put taps on your toes and get gone Get rhythm when you get the blues A Little shoeshine boy never gets low down But he's got the dirtiest job in town Bendin' low at the peoples' feet On the windy corner of the dirty street Well, I asked him while he shined my shoes How'd he keep from gettin' the blues He grinned as he raised his little head Popped a shoeshine rag and then he said Get rhythm when you get the blues Come on, get rhythm when you get the blues A jumpy rhythm makes you feel so fine It'll shake all the trouble from your worried mind Get rhythm when you get the blues Get rhythm when you get the blues Come on , get rhythm when you get the blues Get a rock 'n' roll feelin' in your bones Put taps on your toes and get gone Get rhythm when you get the blues Well, I sat down to listen to the shoeshine boy And I thought I was gonna jump for joy Slapped on the shoe polish left and right He took a shoeshine rag and he held it tight He stopped once to wipe the sweat away I said you're a mighty little boy to be-a workin' that way He said I like it with a big wide grin Kept on a poppin' and he said again Get rhythm when you get the blues Come on, get rhythm when you get the blues It only costs a dime, just a nickel a shoe Does a million dollars worth of good for you Get rhythm when you get the blues Here's another live Johnny Cash performance: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ilN5ggehQXE Here's the 1958 Sun recording: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bd4zRL9RDBE |

Subject: Get Rhythm From: Jerry Rasmussen Date: 05 May 21 - 12:35 PM I've loved this song all my life. Martin Delray looks like he has, too. He breathes new life into the song, and Johnny joins in, and is clearly having a great time, too. Songs have a life of their own. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xyc90V06j-o It's been a long time since I've made a blue clicky. They're more like Blue Meanies for me. I hope this works. |
