Subject: RE: Dorset song concert Dorchester - Sat 8 April 2023 From: GUEST,Nick Dow Date: 09 Apr 23 - 06:25 PM The Concert was a resounding success. Sophie Bob and John and Helen were excellent. Cohen was on fire! He was brilliant. We had a full house in a large hall and had to sell half-price tickets for standing room only. Sean and Jo Gray worked like Trojans serving drinks, Sophie's other half Martin was indispensable and worked flat out. I genuinely believe it was a great compliment to Dorset Folk song and a testament to Clive Boutle as a publisher. I was gigging the night before in Bodmin so I have been on the road for three days, and at age 71 I'm having a bit of R and R for the rest of Easter. The feel-good factor of Saturday night will keep me smiling. Thanks to everybody who came, and also to those who helped me promote the night. kind regards Nick |
Subject: RE: Dorset song concert Dorchester - Sat 8 April 2023 From: Big Al Whittle Date: 09 Apr 23 - 04:39 AM hope it all went well. Denise has not been very well - her broken arm won't mend so we don't get out much. And I am needed but I would love to have supported you. |

Subject: RE: Dorset song concert Dorchester - 8 April From: GUEST,Nick Dow Date: 05 Apr 23 - 10:53 AM Not long now. I am picking up Cohen on the way up from Bodmin where I'm gigging on Friday, and heading for Weymouth. Maybe we two and Nigel Canter (fiddle) can put a song together to close the session in Dorchester. Ticket sales are encouraging so Thanks, everybody. |
Subject: RE: Dorset song concert Dorchester - 8 April From: GUEST,Nick Dow Date: 03 Apr 23 - 08:37 AM Thank you, Guest. Reviving this thread was on my list today. We are expecting 50-odd people most of whom have paid in advance. People are welcome to pay at the door and we have the facility to pay by card and presumably phone as well. We only have 80 seats and I am in the process of tracking down a few more. There will be a raffle with some decent prizes, and I've compiled a special CD called 'Gleanings' which consists of songs from the Hammond manuscripts including the unique version of Bushes and Briars as sung by George Dowden. Here is a preview for you. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EnDyl8pmJnM and once again here is the Eventbrite link https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/an-evening-of-folk-songs-from-dorset-tickets-536856130137 |

Subject: RE: Dorset song concert Dorchester - 8 April From: GUEST,Nick Dow Date: 28 Feb 23 - 04:10 AM I sold my tractor last week, sorry. Are you coming then, Robin? |
Subject: RE: Dorset song concert Dorchester - 8 April From: Black belt caterpillar wrestler Date: 27 Feb 23 - 12:40 PM Will John be explaining the Dorset tradition of tractor exhaust communication? It seems to be a case of shouting or singing across the tractor exhaust pipe to use it as a carrier wave! Robin |
Subject: RE: Dorset song concert Dorchester - 8 April From: GUEST,Nick Dow Date: 27 Feb 23 - 10:34 AM Glad to say tickets are already selling. I'm also delighted that Helen English (Tony Rose's widow) will be backing up John Waltham on harp, and Sophie Wright will be accompanied by Bob Axford. Please would you copy the Eventbrite link and pass it on to anybody you think may be interested. It looks like the second Gypsy book 'Streaming on.' will be ready, either way, we will be taking advanced orders on the night. Looks like I may get a song or two in myself. You will be made very welcome, and of course, you can pay at the door, but it might be safer to book in advance. All systems go then. |

Subject: RE: Dorset song concert Dorchester - 8 April From: Joe Offer Date: 17 Feb 23 - 06:55 PM Don't know what happened there, John. I suspect it was a glitch in the work Max is doing, and some messages got misplaced. I moved the "Aengus" messages to a more appropriate thread. |
