An excellent article on ABC News (in Oz):

John Mayall, blues legend who fostered the careers of Eric Clapton and members of Fleetwood Mac, dies at 90

John Mayall's name was well known in the Oz music scene, as I recall. He seemed to have hero - or even god-like - status among musicians and music fans here. Having read that article I understand how much he influenced other musicians.

A great innovator, but rather difficult to interview, as I found when I worked for the BBC. Amy Rose Medlock did the job for me, and reported back.
A great loss to the world of Blues. He lived up a tree in Bob Hite's garden in Topanga for a while. Bob (I'm told) said it gave the place some class! RIP John.

I got a chance to see him at a blues festival in my hometown a few years back. Still cranking out some authentic blues music. a real pro.

John Mayall's band provided my introduction to the
Pete Frame (Is that right?) diagrams of band "family trees".

The Mayall Band family tree is, of course, a monster,
accounting for so many personnel line-ups.
I never forgot studying the "tree" for the first time.

I owe Mayall for fostering and educating
some of the best-known musicians from the 60s and 70s
who made the music I grew up with.

While I was never a great fan of his singing, John Mayall and his various 1960's sidemen were a massive influence on me and no doubt many others in developing a love of blues and non-mainstream rock in general. Only saw him live a couple of times, unfortunately, but I'm very glad I did.

Sad news re the death of John Mayall whose influence during the sixties and beyond has been immeasurable.

An important and legendary figure in the sixties British Blues Boom. His band featured at different times, Eric Clapton, Peter Green and many more.
I was fortunate to see him play once in the nineties when he actually had Peter Green there as a guest.

There are no doubt many stories and memories among members here. So, I'll not hog things and allow the conversation to happen.
