John Chamber's search (the source MMario used) does supply the tunes in MIDI format as well as ABC and you will almost certainly already have software capable of playng MIDIs installed on your computer.

Having said that, if as suggested above you would like to have a look at ABC, I reccommend you visit at ABC hompage at http://www.gre.ac.uk/~c.walshaw/abc/. Which sould tell you all you need to know and provide a number of useful links.

This site does provide a link to ABC2Win as well other softwate. One program that is worth mentioning is Melody Assistant which is $15 shareware. This one is capable of handling MIDI and ABC as well as other formats.

I believe it is on L.E. McCullough's tin-whistle tutor. (sheet music and CD) if that's any help. I don't know if it's done everywhere, here in Pittsburgh it's always used for the polka figure of the Connemara Reel set. You may want to check some ceili band recordings.

Good luck
Rich

Go to www.execpc.com/~jimvint/ and download the sharware version of ABC2Win (its a program that allows you to write music in windows--very cool). It just so happens that Maggie in the Woods is on their sample page and you can easily listen to it and see it written in G. Hope this helps!

Don't forget the words to the chorus - only the Irish could come up with a tune that has a sung chorus..... (sorry!).

If I had Maggie in the wood,
I'd do with her the best I could
If I had Maggie in the wood
I'd stay with her til morning.

try http://ecf-guest.mit.edu/~jc/cgi/abc/TuneFind?P=wood

the title is listed multiple times and should be able to download as abc or gif or postscript or whatever you need.

Hi,

I'm trying to learn to play the tune "Maggie in the Wood" on the whistle. I've requested the written music from prof.co.uk, and was wondering if anyone might have an mp3 or .ra file or something like that of a large portion of the tune, if not all of it, since that would make it much easier to learn. Thanks!

~Erin
