Subject: RE: Miller's Hornpipe From: Jon Freeman Date: 19 Aug 00 - 09:03 AM Thanks for the info Scott. It does sound like a variation of the Dawn to me although the B part is a bit different to the version of the Dawn I play (I learned it from the Dubliner's Celebration Ablum) but hardly ever played it in sessions as there seem to be so many versions that don't go together. The first "Dawn, the" in A in JC's is pretty close to my version. Jon |
Subject: RE: Miller's Hornpipe From: GUEST,Scot Date: 19 Aug 00 - 04:44 AM Many thanks, Malcolm and Jon. I wasn't aware of this site. The Miller's Reel was indeed the tune I was looking for, and now I'm playing it on the fiddle to my heart's content! I've heard it played by a friend as The Miller's Hornpipe (he tells me that it's also known as The Dawn). |
Subject: RE: Miller's Hornpipe From: Jon Freeman Date: 18 Aug 00 - 10:52 AM I must admit that I had wondered about that possibility when I checked JC's. Scott, please let us know if it turns out to be one of the above. Jon |
Subject: RE: Miller's Hornpipe From: Malcolm Douglas Date: 18 Aug 00 - 10:48 AM JC's Tunefinder doesn't have it, but it does list The Miller's Reel and The Miller's Rant, either of which might get played as a hornpipe; you might want to have a look and see if either of them are what you're after.
