For those of us illiterate in music, isn't this the Casey Jones tune, the old one, not the Grateful Dead version?

That's great!

Max: Do you play it fingerstyle or strumming? If fingerstyle, I would love a TAB transcription. At the least, I need the melody, so I can try to arrange it.

It looks like it is in the key of G, but, if that is so, what is the A chord doing there? Why no 7th chord?

This song is a good candidate for the DT, don't you think?

Max, I think I was straightening NightWing's formatting out as you were experimenting with the new feature. I will paste back in here.

Maybe this'll look better:

  G C G
Once upon a time there was an engineer
G A D
Drove a locomotive both far and near
G C
Accompanied by a monkey who would sit on a stool
G A D G
Watchin' everything the engineer would move

One day the engineer wanted a bite to eat
Left the monkey sittin' on the driver's seat
The monkey pulled the draw, the locomotive jumped the gun
And did ninety miles an hour down the main line run

G C G
Big locomotive, right on time
G A D
Big locomotive, comin' down the line
G C
Big locomotive, number ninety-nine
G A D G
Left the engineer with a worried mind

The engineer called up the dispatcher on the phone
Tell him all about his locomotive was gone
Get on the wire, switch operator to write
'Cause the monkey's got the main line sewn up tight

Switch operator got the message in time
Said, "There's a north bound livin' on the same main line
Open up the switch, I'm gonna let him through the hole
'Cause the monkey's got the locomotive under control!"
^^

One of my favorite tunes to play, folks love it. The people who know me well always say "Play that Monkey Song". I've played it on Mudcat Radio a couple of times, and I'll play it again tonight so tune in.

I found this and printed it out 4 years ago, and wouldn't you know it, it's still there. Love the net.

Reminds me of a joke that ends:

Man in pub to piano player - "Do you know your monkey's got his dick in my pint?"

Piano player - "No, but you hum it and I'll play it"

Ok, I'm sorry....

This is a great and fun song, by Jessie Fuller. I couldn't find the words in the DT database, and I would LOVE to get Guitar TAB for the music.

Can anybody help.

EZR
