Subject: RE: Lyric Req: Don't Cry, Katie From: Haruo Date: 10 Oct 00 - 11:01 AM Lizzie Borden is in the Digitrad (I refound it again, too, yesterday), too, under the title FALL RIVER HOEDOWN (Lizzie Borden). Incidentally, I just noticed yesterday that Lizzie's middle name was Andrew, same as her dad's given name. Wonder if she resented that. Also, although the song calls her Elizabeth Borden, my encyclopedia says Lizzie Andrew Borden. Curious. Liland |
Subject: RE: Lyric Req: Don't Cry, Katie From: LR Mole Date: 10 Oct 00 - 10:55 AM Yas...somewhere, out in the shed, perhaps, I have the 45 of the Chad Mitchell Trio doing "Lizzie Borden" (" 'cause you can't cut your papa up in Masachusetts...), backed with "Super Skier" ("When they finallt got him down they had to use three toboggans/To carry all the pieces down the hill...") Boy, there's a John Denver joke in heinous taste lurking just beyond the horizon. |
Subject: RE: Lyric Req: Don't Cry, Katie From: Robby Date: 10 Oct 00 - 08:00 AM Joe, I was not looking for the lyrics to The John Birch Society, and so was unaware it was in the DT. Thanks for providing that link. I think I enjoyed it more today than when I first heard it at The Bitter End. |
Subject: RE: Lyric Req: Don't Cry, Katie From: Haruo Date: 09 Oct 00 - 07:20 PM Thanks. I must admit those three groups, CMT, KT, B4, are very foggily recorded on my childhood tapes. Liland |
Subject: RE: Lyric Req: Don't Cry, Katie From: Joe Offer Date: 09 Oct 00 - 07:14 PM Hi, Liland - THE JOHN BIRCH SOCIETY (click) was recorded by the Chad Mitchell Trio. -Joe Offer- |
Subject: RE: Lyric Req: Don't Cry, Katie From: Robby Date: 09 Oct 00 - 07:12 PM Liland, The John Birch Society was performed by the Chad Mitchell Trio. While I have their recording on LP vinyl, I have not committed the lyrics to memory. maybe someone else has and can help on this one. |
Subject: RE: Lyric Req: Don't Cry, Katie From: Haruo Date: 09 Oct 00 - 07:09 PM Thanks! The lyric is just as nearly devoid of depth as I thought! And I found a couple of other things I was looking for there. For one thing, it's got a version of the Old Maid's Song (Take Me Out of Pity) that has "pins man" where my version has "kinsman" and Digitrad has "pinsman" (of course, for Search purposes "pins man" and "pinsman" might as well be in different alphabets, for all a computer can see a connection ;-)... Also, I thought the Kingston Trio did the John Birch Society song, but I don't see it there. Anybody know who did? I refer to the one with the line "Fighting for the right to fight the right fight for the Right" in it... Liland |
Subject: Lyr Add: DON'T CRY, KATIE (Dick Glasser) From: Robby Date: 09 Oct 00 - 07:07 PM What the hell, Liland, I went and copied the lyrics from the Trio's place. If this works they'll be pasted to this message, but they won't be in Mudcat format. I hope this works and will try to put it in html. DON'T CRY, KATIE Dick Glasser
Chorus:
Were these the lyrics that you wanted? I hope so. |
Subject: RE: Lyric Req: Don't Cry, Katie From: Robby Date: 09 Oct 00 - 06:49 PM I know you can find the lyrics at the Kingston Trio Place, http://home.att.net/~kingstontrioplace I still haven't learned enough about HTML to give a little blue clicky thing. I first learned this song from a Kingston Trio LP, way back Good luck in looking. It will take a little time to scroll down through the opening page to the "lyrics" link. |
