The last time I was in the 12th Fret I was told they are moving to a new, much larger, location. Has that happened yet? If not does anyone know the date of the move?

My sincere apologies to my Canadian buds regarding my above comment about the 12th Fret's website.

I was feeling particularly "pissy" last night, totally not related to mudcat or The 12th Fret, and should have walked away, rather than post. It was unsporting and I could have said it in a more delicate way.

Trust is, I do find their website cumbersome and not at all user friendly. Since this is my only access to them, that becomes an important issue to me.

But, I frequently see The 12th Fret listed, along with Elderly, Mandolin Bros., Buffalo Bros., as one of the best places to purchase guitars online, offline, and sight-unseen. And not just on the forum, but other guitar forums, as well.

So, please forgive my pissiness. Today is a brighter day.

jenny

Yes, grim. Steve's Music Store may be the worst: welcome to the BIG AMP HOUSE!!!!One nice thing about Long and McQuade (just around the corner from where I live) is that they have a recent acoustic room away from the rest of the store. It is sane and there is room to look around. If they would just put a couple of comfy chairs in there, I would be tempted to actually go in voluntarily. And I would spend a lot of money. So maybe it is a good thing these places are so horrible!!
yours, Peter T.

Peter, I agree with your assesment. Especially when you have a seventeen year old trying to smash out the latest Green Day on an electric he can't afford.

I loved the music store scene in Wayne's World where Wayne starts to play "the" strat and the store owner says "Hey" and points to the "No Stairway to Heaven" sign. Do you think Mike Myers has been in a few Scarborough music stores in his day?

I must be the only person around here who finds guitar stores really unpleasant places. I would not go into them if it wasn't for the fact that I break things, and occasionally get enough courage to think about getting something new. They are full of people showing off, and are always loud, with multiple music cacaphonies. But then I am not much into shopping anyway. yours, Peter T.

Visit their used and vintage instruments part of their site. It's amazing what they have available.

Geez, Spaw, you're right. What was I thinking? I'm still just getting my feet wet on this whole Internet scene, that's why. I promise I will take a look, but probably not till next week (or maybe on Friday, if I get a break here). I need to get some sleep now...early day tomorrow.

Not only guitars Little Hawk. I got my Hammered Dulcimer at 12th Fret and found that the guys there were as knowledgable about it as they were about guitars.

Glad you liked the place Hawk....But like Michael said, you could have found out about it here. As a matter of fact, Michael was good enough to add the link awhile back. We got LOTSA NEAT stuff here LH....Have you ever checked out the links pages in general and the Instrument Related in specific? Try it.

There is also a link to "the Fret" in the Instrument Related section of the LINKS section.

Once upon a time Ring Music was a player in the vintage scene along with the Millwheel and even Len Kosak Music. Millwheel and Kozak are extinct, and Ring (well they can't even maintain a website or respond to e-mail) and these days they're preoccupied with electrics and entry level instruments.

For Toronto, The Twelfth Fret is it. Great staff too.

Fellow guitar lovers...

If you happen to be in Toronto, Canada, you might want to check out the 12th Fret. As far as I know, it is the finest acoustic guitar store in Canada, and it's a truly amazing place if you like fine guitars.

All the great makes by the great luthiers are there...Taylor, Collings, Santa Cruz, Larrivee, Laskin, and so on. What a store!

Also, their staff are absolutely the best. They are making a short move in the near future (just down the street) to a larger space and they have some special sales on right now.

Don Bray told me about their website, and I thought I'd pass the info on to the rest of you.

Another neat place in Toronto is Ring Music, and then there are the grand old music stores, Long & McQuade and Steve's Music. All worth a good look, but nothing beats the 12th Fret.

You can find the 12th Fret at http://12fret.com/

Enjoy! (Sorry, I still don't know how to make blue clicky's...)

LH
