Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Peter K (Fionn) Date: 12 Nov 00 - 12:04 PM OK folks, you need a new thread. Here it is: Manchester UK Gathering II I've put a clicky in the new thread, referring back to this one. . |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Bernard Date: 12 Nov 00 - 11:46 AM If we can have use of a telephone line, my laptop will be there; or, as I don't live too far away (6 miles), I could log in occasionally at home. Logging on for 5 mins every hour if using the White Lion's line would be enough, I would think, and we could have a collection to reimburse the landlord.

Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Diva Date: 12 Nov 00 - 06:44 AM I'll be working so won't be able to go. :-( But I'll be with you all in spirit. Enjoy. |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Catrin Date: 12 Nov 00 - 06:40 AM Now - DtheG - there's a challenge! |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Naemanson Date: 11 Nov 00 - 08:59 PM Is there any way you could hook up a computer with internet access where you will be so we could combine the two parties into one rock 'em sock 'em transatlantic party? |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Mrs.Duck Date: 11 Nov 00 - 12:57 PM Thanks for the info Dave. See you there Geoff and Mrs.D |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Catrin Date: 10 Nov 00 - 09:36 PM Naemonson - ours is 17th - 19th - we will be finishing our parties at the same time! Yay Hay for Mudcat! Lets drink to each other! |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Naemanson Date: 10 Nov 00 - 09:28 PM I haven't read the whole thread but I thought it was a pretty neat idea. Especially since when you get together on the 19th in Manchester, England, we will just be finishing a Mudcat party just outside of Manchester, New Hampshire, USA! The beat goes on... |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Catrin Date: 10 Nov 00 - 08:50 PM Dave - I always manage to get back a bit later than you! Nurnynurnynurny Ed - I know what you mean. Its my fortieth soon, and Dave's fiftieth - and we've never been married (despite living together for over twenty years!) People tell us we should be going to Paris or somewhere exiting. Guess where we're going? The lake District! |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Dave the Gnome Date: 10 Nov 00 - 07:20 PM Parking is no problem - Big car park at the back of the pub and it is watched by passive IR (or is it UV - I can't remember...) camera. The trick is finding it! Look at the map posted earlier - You will see the junction of the A6(Manchester Road) and A572 (Worsley Road). The turn off for the car park is off the A6, just before the left turn for the A572 (Coming from Manchester). It is either Dorning or Dorchester Road, and, please forgive me, I cannot remeber which without going to have a look! (It's raining, cold, I've had a few.... SO!!!!) See you all there Cheers D the G |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Zebedee Date: 10 Nov 00 - 05:38 PM Catrin, I do exist honest! I keep meaning to come to the 'Jolly' but Mondays are 13 hours long in my current job. When I finish, I just want to go to bed... I'd love to go to man-llan-folk-curry-chester, but given that my girlfriend has been having a very bad time recently, and we have the option of a weekend together (alone) in Windermere, please don't blame me for choosing not to come to a weekend-long sing around. Hope you all have a lovely time Ed |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Catrin Date: 10 Nov 00 - 04:17 PM Oh, Zebedee - Ed - do you exist??? Come to the Jolly one Monday and prove you are not a figment of our imagniation *BG* Seriously, I am sorry you can't make it - you WILL be missed. Cheers, Catrin |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Zebedee Date: 10 Nov 00 - 04:11 PM Aaargghh! Just realised that I've double booked myself. Sorry for being stupid in getting the weekend wrong: I've got something that I can't rearrange next weekend. Shame Not that you'll miss me! Ed |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Mrs.Duck Date: 10 Nov 00 - 02:20 PM What is the situation regarding parking at the pub? We are intending to come over for the Friday evening as early as is possibleand would like to park as close as possible as we have had problems in the past. |

Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Bernard Date: 10 Nov 00 - 02:05 PM I think I'll be okay - there's a house in Farnworth where I can stay... |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Catrin Date: 10 Nov 00 - 12:41 PM Has everyone sorted out accomodation OK? |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Brakn Date: 09 Nov 00 - 07:22 PM It's a shame being relatively local that I'll not be able to get there. I'm fairly busy at weekends but would like to meet you guys sometime in the future! Hope you all have a great time! |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Bagpuss Date: 09 Nov 00 - 03:50 PM Mr B is busy (has OFSTED the following week) - but I'll try and get there for some of it anyway. Anyone who could pick me up from Victoria would be most appreciated. Ta Bagpuss |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Dave the Gnome Date: 08 Nov 00 - 07:35 PM Micca - Does the parody contain the lines "Sooner than part from the mountains I love, I'd rather have Rachel in bed" ??? S'pose I should not ask realy - I hope to hear it soon enough. See you soon DTG |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Dave the Gnome Date: 08 Nov 00 - 07:01 PM Get there Bagpuss (how is Emily BTW???) If Mr B cannot do the deed I'm sure we can sort summat owt. Cheers D the G |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Bagpuss Date: 08 Nov 00 - 12:16 PM I might just be able to make it for some of this weekend - if I can persuade Mr Bagpuss to drive me :-) Maybe see you there. Bagpuss |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Micca Date: 08 Nov 00 - 10:01 AM Dave, see me when I get there...re-Man.Ramb. I have a parody of it but they wont let me sing it...!!!! too obscene they say.. |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Dave the Gnome Date: 08 Nov 00 - 08:34 AM How's everyone doing with transport and accomodation - anyone need any help? Do we have an idea of numbers who may want to eat at the pub yet - Liz the Landlady has only just started doing food and would like to know how many and when - oh, and any vegetarian or other special requests? If I suggest Sat and Sun lunchtimes only and possibly around 20 would I be too far off the mark??? She does a splendid full breakfast if anyone likes to keep their cholesterol levels up! Second idea to add to the penguin workshop - I have researched not 1 but 2 Swinton May Songs - I will bring the dots and words if anyone wants to learn them and/or offer to put the tune into midi format for the DT I am bringing a couple of items for Auction/Raffle for the Children in need charity - any other offers will be gratefuly accepted. Good idea earlier about pledges for (or against!) particular songs - 5000 pound fine for anyone doing the Manchester Rambler....;-) D the G |

The light has now dawned. Did you know that you are the person who first told me about mudcat? - came in the Jolly one night leading up to christmas with a pile of christmas carols, hot off the mudcat press!! Of course you are welcome at the white Lion! Hope to see you there! Catrin (feeling sheepish!) |

Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: John Routledge Date: 06 Nov 00 - 02:26 PM LLAFAIR Have just returned from a weekend of Northumbrian Piping tuition in Somerset and am now brimming with confidence. Will practice a few short tunes and at least people will get a taster of a wonderful instrument. Hopefully the quality of the performance will match the quality of the instrument! As I recall Rusholme really does heave on Saturday night so any expedition should be 5.30/6.00. as already suggested. This has advantage of leaving more time after eating for other activities. Looking forward to meeting everyone during the event. Kindest regards to all G.Broon

Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Zebedee Date: 04 Nov 00 - 01:49 PM If it's becoming a Swinton get together, I won't be able to get to that much (I don't have a car) I could probably do most of the Saturday, but would have to leave quite early, public transport being what it is (isn't)... Ed |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Micca Date: 04 Nov 00 - 01:37 PM Absinthe Friends.....I might have a hip flask here, somewhere, with a little drop of something interesting in it... |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Noreen Date: 04 Nov 00 - 01:20 PM Hi, hammerite, and thanks for the thought. We will no doubt raise a glass or two to 'Absent Friends'- particularly to absent founder-members of Llanstock! Noreen |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: GUEST,hammerite Date: 04 Nov 00 - 08:33 AM Hello unforchuntly me and Kingbrilliant can not atend due to the distants between were I live and manchester. But we will dedacate a song for all of you at our local folk club that weekend to be with you in spirit. P.S Sorry for my spelling |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Bernard Date: 04 Nov 00 - 08:28 AM It's possible, though, that musicians may feel somewhat frustrated at not being able to play their seemingly endless diddly-diddly's! It's okay for singers, because you can join in with virtually anything. If musicians want to squeeze, pluck and bang (oo-er!) in another room, it would be easy enough for them as wants to drift between. It usually works well on Morris weekends... As I fall between both camps I know it would suit me better - or am I on my own in this (as usual!!)? Anyway, the decision may well depend on how many turn up... |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Catrin Date: 03 Nov 00 - 08:34 PM Noreen, I think you're probably right - I was trying to do the 'lets keep everybody happy' thing. My gut feeling, if I'm honest, is more like the 'lets get everybody together' and it will work! Any other feelings folks? Cheers, Catrin |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Noreen Date: 03 Nov 00 - 07:42 PM The Shere Khan in Rusholme gives you a Vimto lolly if you eat up all your meal...! This sounds great. It doesn't need to be, in fact it is probably better not to try to be, an exact copy of Llanstock- that would be setting ourselves up for failure. I wasn't expecting another ceili, that happened because of who turned up and because the hall was available. Let's just put together the people available, in a suitable setting, and see what happens! Personally, I'd rather not have a segregated singing/instrumental policy- I love it when everybody participates and we get the benefit of the wide variety of talent that is Mudcat (and associated friends, of course). Noreen |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Micca Date: 03 Nov 00 - 06:45 PM and maybe the infamous Catspaw Fartophone might come into play??? |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Mrs.Duck Date: 03 Nov 00 - 04:36 PM And then you could do human percussion! |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Catrin Date: 03 Nov 00 - 04:04 PM Bernard - I was thinking more Sat. Tea time, about sixish - so it doesn't interfere with singing sessions (For the curry that is) Cheers, Catrin |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Bernard Date: 03 Nov 00 - 04:01 PM For what it's worth - I don't drink and drive; as I'll have to get there and back I'll be driving. So I won't be drinking... Okay! I'll get to the point in a week or two... There's room for three big 'uns in my car (or a big 'un and three a little smaller), so I can offer a lift to wherever we go for the curry. Rusholme may be a problem - Saturday night + big group = need to book in advance. There are alternatives - here in Farnworth there are a couple of places less likely to be over-subscribed (I can check); there are also other places within easy reach of the WL... Just a thought... |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: GUEST,Roger the skiffler Date: 03 Nov 00 - 11:40 AM As I won't be there I shouldn't be interfering, but if you want to raise money how about selling requests or dedications or anti-requests (if I was there people would pay for me not to sing) on the lines of Preservation hall in New Orleans (Requests $10, The Saints $20) "Wild Rover" twice as much as the rest, Patrick Spens a quid a verse etc.! I'll remove my oar now... RtS |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Dave the Gnome Date: 03 Nov 00 - 11:35 AM Sounds grand to me - Afternoon sessions (Sat and Sun) we can have 2 rooms and so split singists and musicers if required. Evening sessions however (Fri and Sat) we will have only 1 room as they get quite busy downstairs. They will do food so I guess Friday night/Sat Lunch/Sun Lunch we can eat there and Sat Evng we go for a curry. There are lots of other eateries and take aways within minutes as well. Teas/Coffees also available if required. Any special requests for food/accom/pickups/transport or info on the area please feel free to PM me. I will try to arrange a fund raiser for Children in need if there are no objections - probably a raffle or some such. I think we may get a few Swinton regulars if that's OK with you all as well. See you there D the G |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Catrin Date: 03 Nov 00 - 10:56 AM Oh, I meant to say, The White Lion does food as well! |

Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Catrin Date: 03 Nov 00 - 08:41 AM I've just sent a pm to DtheG. What I think is that we should not get into too much 'organising' - especially since, by virtue of geography, most of it would fall onto DTG to do. (He lives near the White Lion). I think 'catters want a chance to be together, to talk, sing and play. That being the case, what would be needed is two rooms, one for session musicians and one for singers. If only one room is available, we'll have to take turns. Therefore, my idea of 'programme of events' would run somethinglike -
Fri eve - singing/session Whatcha all think? Cheers, Catrin |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Micca Date: 02 Nov 00 - 07:14 PM Dave, don't worry abut the Ceilidh on my account, I don't do that dancing stuff... |

Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Dave the Gnome Date: 02 Nov 00 - 07:06 PM I thought it would have been obvious Micca. You know how White Swans are always called Mucky Ducks???
Well, I guess cats are called Lions as well -
Easy eh?
Getting a PM from Catrin about the format BTW - can do al apart from the ceilidh at the mo - but can work on that if required.

Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Nynia Date: 02 Nov 00 - 05:56 PM Thanks for the thought Jock but I won't be able to get to the Scottish meeting anyway, I don't think Diva can either. But once again thanks for thinking about us. |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Micca Date: 02 Nov 00 - 05:41 PM What is it with Lions and mudcat UK gatherings..??? when Dick Gereenhaus and Susan DT met London catters for the first time the venue was.... The Black Lion Llanstock..... The Red Lion Manchester( Son of Llanstock??)... the White Lion... Dave ask Catrin about Format we were talking around the thing last night and she has ideas .. but at Llanstock the form was Friday eve.... sing around and playing music in the pub Saturday Lunchtime and afternoon solo performances Saturday eve.... Ceilidh in the hall, singaround in the pub for the non dancers Sunday Lunchtime... singaround in pub before people set off home... |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Catrin Date: 02 Nov 00 - 04:07 PM My fault about the dates confusion. Its Friday through to Sunday.17th - 19th. November Just got back from London after a six hour train journey so my head's a bit all over the place. I'll post again tomorrow. Cheers, Catrin |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: John Routledge Date: 02 Nov 00 - 01:25 PM Llanfair - My rusty voice is infinitely preferable to my inept pipe playing I regret to say. The tune bits are starting to get together but the drones are very unpredictable. As my speed is only now starting to build up I need the drones to give "body" to the chanter. I expect to get this sorted in 2/3 months so I will then go public!! Will be speaking to your sister tonight re White Lion. SEE YOU THERE GB |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Geoff the Duck Date: 02 Nov 00 - 12:53 PM Bit confused about the dates and venue. Little Duckling is playing in a concert on the Saturday but Friday is a possibility. |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Dave the Gnome Date: 02 Nov 00 - 11:18 AM No objections to small people provided they don't run around in the bar area or drink my beer! |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Mrs.Duck Date: 02 Nov 00 - 11:06 AM I doubt if we'll make the whole weekend with all these kids I keep finding in my house who insist they are mine and want feeding etc. But we might try to get across for an evening or even a day and an evening if the pub doesn't object to small people. |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Jock Morris Date: 02 Nov 00 - 10:54 AM If you could change the date from the 19th (a Sunday?) to a later date then maybe some of the people who've replied to this thread (Nynia and Diva?) could make the Scottish Mudcat gathering at Leadburn on the 18th. Just a suggestion. Scott |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Dave the Gnome Date: 02 Nov 00 - 10:21 AM Can someone post me the format of the gathering so I can firm up things at the pub?

Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Dave the Gnome Date: 01 Nov 00 - 03:56 AM The address (242 Manchester Road) is spot on - look on the Street level map and it is at the junction of Worsley Road (A572) and Manchester Road (A6) just at the point where Manchester Road turns into Chorley Road. Not near Lwr Sutherland Street - Sorry Brakn - only pub near there is the Foresters and I wouldn't wish that on anyone! White Lion don't do beds but as posted earlier there are 2 x premier lodges nearby. The New Ellesmere - 1/2 mile and the Henry Boddington - 1 mile. Plenty of rooms at the moment at 46 pounds for a twin/double or family room. Central booking number is 08702 01 02 03. There is also a private Hotel about 1/4 mile away - Cordells, which is 48 pounds for a twin / double including breakfast Tel: 0161 794 5330 There is plenty of other accomodation nearby in Salford and Eccles (2-3 miles) if these are too expensive or booked up. Ring Salford Tourist information at Salford Quays on 0161 794 5330 for details. I can put up a single and a couple as well but the double is a fold out in the dining room. PM me if you want to take me up on the offer. Anyone else interested in trying to do something for Children in need over that weekend BTW??? Cheers and see you all soon D the G |

Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Brakn Date: 31 Oct 00 - 08:34 PM Is it this one in Swinton?
White Lion Even though the address says Manchester Road, I think it may be on Chorley Road at the junction of Chorley Road and Lower Sutherland St. |

Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Dave the Gnome Date: 31 Oct 00 - 04:01 PM I like the idea of having the Muddy cat do at the White Lion ..... |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Bernard Date: 31 Oct 00 - 03:41 PM The White Lion seems good to me, and not far from my house, too! I've space for one or two if need be, but don't all rush at once... |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Catrin Date: 30 Oct 00 - 08:36 PM A few hours later, I've been having conversations with non-mudcatter folkies with ideas for venues. I was reminded of a time earlier this year when I was given (volunteered - mug!) to book a cottage for me and my mates to stay at for a week in the summer. What I decided then was that I could not expect perfection in where we stayed, but that what was important was that we all had somewhere we could be together. In that sense, the venue did not matter - as long as it was big enough. And I was right. We had a wonderful time. So, given that I am going to be away for most of next week and given that Dave the Gnome has suggested the White Lion and given that I was talking tonight to somebody else who knows the White Lion and was talking about how perfect it would be (that's two references) and given that people travelling need to book places to stay. and given that they will want to be doing that soon... I suggest that we all head for The White Lion. Somewhere to congregate and sing and play. Dave the Gnome? Whatcha think? We could still have a curry in Russholme (perhaps Saturday teatime?) Offers from local 'catters of accomodation for distant catters?... Cheers, Catrin P.S. the places I had in mind, that I mentioned on the previous thread, are out really, one's too small and the other has a 'resident' fiddle player - we would be taking over his night - which I don't think would be fair. Also, I have a gut feeling that one pub for the whole weekend makes some sort of sense. Feedback - please? |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Catrin Date: 30 Oct 00 - 03:47 PM Yes Dave - it is difficult. Manchester is a big city and you would think that there would be loads of places to choose from. But finding a folk-friendly place who will enjoy (not just tolerate) a bunch of computer nerd-folkies, is not that easy (especially on a weekend). Have no fear though. It will be done. Suggestions from other Mancunians who may haunt different places to myself would be welcome. At the moment The White Lion for one of the nights is looking good. Cheers, Catrin |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Skipjack K8 Date: 30 Oct 00 - 03:46 PM Comrades, something very big for Skipjack is possibly happening, and it's particularly possibly happening that weekend. It's bad juju to say what, but it involves boats, foreign countries and bad weather. It looks like I possibly can't make it, but she's a copper bottomed excuse. Skipjack |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Dave the Gnome Date: 30 Oct 00 - 03:43 PM Just another thought - wherever we may be in Manchester - the weekend of 18/19 Nov almost co-incides with BBC's children in need day (17th). Hows about we get involved somehow with that. It may not only help a good cause but played right could be good publicity for Mudcatters everywhere! As well as that, seeing as the Beebs own folk presenter is from our fair city, I wonder if we could somehow involve Mrs Hardings kid himself??? Food for thought eh? D the G |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Dave the Gnome Date: 30 Oct 00 - 03:31 PM No B&B's I can think of in Swinton but 2 premier lodges within a mile - 45 quid for a room that sleeps 3 or 4 makes them quite reasonable if you are prepared to share. Nearest hotel is a small private one whos single rate is quite dear (40 pounds) but the double/twin rate is only 48 so that becomes more like it! I think Catrins job of picking a venue is hard enough without me adding more complications though so I will not try to sell the Lion idea just because it is my local! I have PM'd Catrin some details to try and help. See yez all - wherever it be :-) D the G |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: GUEST,Noreen Date: 30 Oct 00 - 12:33 PM hi all A short note from Borrowdale in the Lakes: back home tomorrow so back in touch. More info on White Lion etc. please Dave, then we can set do with B&Bs etc. Dave (tam)- will keep my eyes open, I'd love to help. Noreen |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Catrin Date: 30 Oct 00 - 12:06 PM Llanchesterstock? I'm away for a couple of days in London and then down to Wales. I understand though that people need to know quite soon. (for B&B reasons etc.) The White Lion sounds a goody too (see my pm Dave). Cheers, Catrin (workingonit) |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Dave (the ancient mariner) Date: 30 Oct 00 - 12:04 PM May I ask you Mancunians a favour? If anyone is browsing through secondhand or junk shops, and finds an old Manchester Liner coffee mug.White with Blue stripe and ML surrounded by a belt symbol on it. I would gladly pay you for it( within reason say five pounds or so) and the cost of mailing it to me. My old one broke and I would like to buy another for sentimental reasons. Probably some around since the company had eighteen ships when I joined and went out of business in 1983. Hope you dont mind me asking but its something I would not find around here. PM me if you come across one on your travels, Thanks. Yours, Aye. Dave |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: GUEST,Diva Date: 30 Oct 00 - 08:36 AM Sounds like a great idea and as I have a crap sense of direction I might ask Nynia to come with me if we're not too skint (poor students dontcha know) |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Micca Date: 30 Oct 00 - 07:49 AM Dave the Gnome, is there a source of B&B either at the pub or close by for the ininerants from "Dahn souff"??? please advise, I like to stay in pubs myself... and where is this venue??? Please inform... |

Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Terry K Date: 30 Oct 00 - 05:42 AM Bernard, you're right, but as Llanstock has rendered Woodstock incidental, should we not make a play on ...... oh, stuff it, why do I bother!! |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Dave the Gnome Date: 30 Oct 00 - 03:45 AM I think you could use the upstairs room of the White Lion for free - plenty enough space I think and above our usual folk club room. I will check with the landlord tonight. Good beer as well BTW - The Frederics (Robinsons) bitter was superb on Saturday but beware the Old Tom - at 8.5% ABV it has a way of catching up on you!!! Only problem is it is not central Manchester but about 5 miles west. The offers there anyway so let me know if you need it. Probably easier if you PM me - I will check my box later as I am off to Bradford now (If the M62 ain't snowed in) See yaz all D the G |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Bernard Date: 29 Oct 00 - 04:11 PM Erm, I thought 'Llanstock' was a play on 'Woodstock', so it would be 'Manstock'! Then again, I'm usually wrong... |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Eric the Viking Date: 29 Oct 00 - 04:33 AM Here's hoping I'll make it. Might need a lift though, see new thread "carpel tunnel syndrome" Shame you and Noreen missed swinton yesterday. I looked out for you. cheers. Eric |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Terry K Date: 29 Oct 00 - 01:28 AM So this would be "Llanchester", right? Cheers, Terry (will try to be there) |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Liz the Squeak Date: 28 Oct 00 - 06:13 PM Mmmm, think this might be a bit too much, I'm rapidly running out of weekends..... Hope you all have a great time. LTS |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Catrin Date: 28 Oct 00 - 06:08 PM Hi everybody! Great response so far. Ed - Of course you're welcome! If Llanstock is anything to go by, you may be the only 'audience'! and as such will be greatly appreciated! Geordie - are you local? if so, PM me if you want to know about Manchester folk scene - unnacompanied singers are the best aren't they? (Well I'm one too actually *BG*) John and Llanfair - 'twould be great to see you again! Nynia! 'twould be great to meet you! I'm going to put some serious thought into this, I may need to do some 'checking out' of potential pubs and get back to you. How tedious (not!) Cheers, Catrin |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Llanfair Date: 28 Oct 00 - 05:52 PM Geordie! I'm told that you are mastering the northumbrian pipes!!!!! Are you up to playing them in public yet?? Cheers, Bron. |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Nynia Date: 28 Oct 00 - 03:09 PM Hi Folks, I'll see if it's possible for me (hopefully Diva too) when you get the dates. After missing Llanstock this sounds great Nynia (back on the net) :-) -) ) |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Morticia Date: 28 Oct 00 - 02:46 PM sounds okay so far to me Catrin...we have to work around Steve's shifts and so on a bit but if we can, we'll be there. |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: John Routledge Date: 28 Oct 00 - 08:31 AM Stockport Friday sounds fine and Rusholme is as tempting as ever and..... I am an unaccompanied singer who has recently found your amazing set up!! Hope meet comes off.-- John |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Llanfair Date: 28 Oct 00 - 05:14 AM Yes, definitely for at least one session, probably Friday. cheers, Bron. |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Jon Freeman Date: 27 Oct 00 - 06:31 PM Catrin, I have been told about the curries in Rusholme before (I have a friend who lived there when she was a student) - it sounds very tempting... Jon |
Subject: RE: Manchester UK get together From: Zebedee Date: 27 Oct 00 - 05:54 PM Catrin, A mudcat get together on my doorstep! Sounds great. Of course I know the 'Hare and Hounds' I've traipsed up Shudehill more times than... (well quite a lot) I might not play or sing, and might just sit in the corner looking tired, but if that sort of person is welcome, I'd love to come Zeb (who is Ed if we ever meet) |
Subject: Manchester UK get together From: Catrin Date: 27 Oct 00 - 04:01 PM Sorry I've not posted before folks, I've been soooo busy. Just to let you know I have not forgotten. The dates we are looking at are 19th Nov so far (but that's negotiable). I am still thinking about veunes. I could really do with knowing how many will turn up since this does affect the choice of venue. My favourite drinking ground is TINY so it's probably out. (I know there will be a few non-mudcat Mancunians interested). There is a possibility of a room upstairs in a pub in Central Manchester on the Saturday night (The Hare and Hounds in Shudehill, if anyone knows it). And possibly a pub in Stockport for the Friday night. (which has offered to be very accomodating). Other things I'mm looking at are perhaps to all meet for an Indian Meal on the Saturday lunchtime (In Russholme - yummy!) - Other ideas welcome. We need to talk about this folks - comments? Anyone? Cheers, Catrin |
