Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Camp Meeting in July (Jerry Correll) From: GUEST Date: 11 Jan 25 - 11:21 AM The missing line in the chorus is: We all sang "The Sweet By-and-By" "The Sweet By-and-By" is a hymn from 1868. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Camp Meeting in July (Jerry Correll) From: cnd Date: 03 May 21 - 01:56 AM Yes, you did it right. The missing word is "sleep" |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Camp Meeting in July (Jerry Correll) From: Joe Offer Date: 03 May 21 - 01:44 AM Hi, CND - I switched the order of the verses and made the other corrections you suggested. Did I do it right? What's the word missing from "My ______ was filled with childhood dreams"?? -Joe- |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Camp Meeting in July (Jerry Correll) From: cnd Date: 03 May 21 - 01:18 AM I emailed the group to get a copy of their CD; unfortunately, it seems as if they were out of copies. However, I recently was given a compilation CD from a local radio station which happened to have this very song on it--what are the chances?! The lyrics are mostly correct, but swap the order of verse 3 and verse 2. The second stanza of what is currently verse 2 should read "We rode home in the buck board then" The chorus should be "We all sang The Sweet Bye and Bye" but that's pretty minor. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Camp Meeting in July (Jerry Correll) From: GUEST,# Date: 19 Mar 21 - 02:31 PM They were kind enough to write back and the missing word is sleep. We rode on in the buck board then All snuggled down all cozy dry My ______ was filled with childhood dreams Cam Meeting in July |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Camp Meeting in July (Jerry Correll) From: GUEST,# Date: 19 Mar 21 - 11:56 AM I have emailed the group and asked about the missing lyric(s). I'll get back when I hear something. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Camp Meeting in July (Jerry Correll) From: cnd Date: 19 Mar 21 - 08:26 AM As others have noted, the only recording I've found is by the Wolfe Brothers on their 1998 album Old Time Tuning (Yodel-Ay-Hee ?– CD-025). There's still a few copies available through County sales so I may purchase one if all else fails just for my own curiosity! I've also found their own website (click) and on second thought will probably buy the CD direct through them if I do. While a great number of live shows and songs by them have been uploaded to YouTube, searching for them his a bit hard due to a Australian group by the same name. I haven't been able to find this song. Via BanjoHangout, this song appears to be the only(?) vocal version of the song, which is more fully titled called "Camp Meeting on the Fourth of July" -- note that the tune should *not* be confused with "4th of July at the County Fair." |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Camp Meeting in July From: Jim Dixon Date: 20 Sep 10 - 08:04 PM Corrections to Annie's lyrics: In verse 1: I'd milk the cow and clean the sty. In the chorus: We all sang "The By-and-By*." The sample I listened to didn't have verse 2. * I assume he means SWEET BY-AND-BY." |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Camp Meeting in July From: GUEST,Russ Date: 16 Sep 10 - 09:05 PM Jim, It is an old-time string band tune. Jerry Correll just added the words. Russ (Permanent GUEST) |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Camp Meeting in July From: Jim Dixon Date: 16 Sep 10 - 02:02 PM I don't know if this is the same song/tune, but I found several recordings of CAMP MEETING ON THE FOURTH OF JULY at CDBaby. I listened to samples of a few of them, but they were all instrumentals without words. It sounds like an old-time string band tune. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Camp Meeting in July From: Jim Dixon Date: 10 Aug 02 - 12:11 AM Here's a link to the page about the Wolfe Brothers' Old Time Tuning album. And here's a direct link to the "Camp Meeting in July" RealAudio sample. There's a better description of the album here but they don't have a sound sample. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Camp Meeting in July From: GUEST,Russ Date: 08 Nov 00 - 09:15 AM "Camp Meeting in July" is not an old song. It is contemporary and was composed by Jerry Correll (I think). You can find it on a CD titled "Old Time Tuning" featuring the Wolfe Brothers String Band (Jerry's band). You can find the CD by doing the following. 1. go to www.flat5.com. 2. Make sure you are at the home page and click on the "Online Store" link. 3. Choose the category "Bluegrass/Old-Time." 4. Scroll down to "Old Time Tuning". The "Real Audio Sample" link just happens to play the first verse of "Camp Meeting in July". You won't regret owning the CD. Not surprised at the lack of responses to your request. Don't seem to be many hard-core old time musicians here. |
