Subject: RE: Lyr Add: 'Homeward Bound' Mariner's Hymn; 186 From: Charley Noble Date: 19 Apr 04 - 09:52 AM Uncle Jacque- What tune do you use? I'm not sure how the "We're home at last; home at last!" part goes. You'll have to attend one of our shanty swaps again. How about planning to join us in Portsmouth on May 15th? I can pick you up at 40 Salem St. at 2 pm sharp. Cheerily, Charley Noble |

Subject: Lyr Add: HOMEWARD BOUND (Warren, Harrington) From: Q (Frank Staplin) Date: 18 Apr 04 - 04:02 PM Lyr. Add: HOMEWARD BOUND W. F. Warren, music C. F. Harrington Out on an ocean all boundless we ride, We're homeward bound, homeward bound; Tossed on the waves of a rough restless tide, We're homeward bound, homeward bound; Far from the safe, quiet harbour we rode, Seeking our Father's celestial abode, Promise of which on us each he bestowed; We're homeward bound, homeward bound. Wildly the storm sweeps us on as it roars, We're homeward bound, homeward bound; Look, yonder lie the bright heavenly shores, We're homeward bound, homeward bound; Steady, oh pilot, stand firm at the wheel, Steady, we soon shall outweather the gale: Oh, how we fly 'neath the loud creaking sail, We're homeward bound, homeward bound. Into the harbour of heaven now we glide, We're home at last, home at last; Softly we drift on its soft silver tide, We're home at last, home at last, Glory to God, all our dangers are o'er; We stand secure on the glorified shore; Glory to God, we will shout evermore; We're homeward bound, homeward bound. A glorious melody to this hymn; hear midi at Cyberhymnal. Homeward Bound Popular during the Civil War era on both sides of the conflict, printed on broadsheets by Thomas G. Doyle, Baltimore, and others (see American Memory, Civil War Song Sheets). First verse the same as that posted by Uncle Jacque, but his other verses are quite different. "Words by Rev. W. F. Warren, before 1863." Music C (Calvin?) S. Harrington (Cyberhymnal). |

Subject: Lyr Add: HOMEWARD BOUND From: GUEST,Uncle Jaque - Maine Date: 28 Jan 01 - 12:20 AM Just checked Digitrad DB: There's 2 by this title, but not the same one! This song found in a Hymnal dated 1864 issued by the Portland (ME) Seaman's Bethel (Chapel), presumadly to a Sailor. I have sung it at memorial services, and it seems to be appropriate & well recieved.
"HOMEWARD BOUND" Line breaks added. --JoeClone |
