Subject: ADD: It's a Long Road to Freedom, (Winter) From: Joe Offer Date: 17 Oct 97 - 02:59 AM Hi, Miranda, the second one is "It's a Long Road to Freedom, by Sister Miriam Therese Winter of the the Medical Mission Sisters. It's in the "Rise Up Singing" songbook, but let's see how much I can type before I have to go get it off the shelf: It's a Long Road to Freedom (Sister Miriam Therese Winter) It's a long road to freedom, a-winding steep and high,I walked one morning by the sea, And all the waves reached out to me I took their tears And let them be. [chorus] I walked one morning at the dawn When bits of night still lingered on I sought my star, But it was gone [chorus] I walked one morning with a friend And thought the day would never end. the years have flown, So why pretend. [chorus] I walked one morning with my King (My heart one morning took to wing) And all my winters turned to spring Yet every moment held its sting [chorus] Gee, I feel like I'm back at a Folk Mass in the 60's - all those clean-scrubbed, smiling kids and their guitars, and to think I was one of them. Heck, I still do a Folk Mass with teenage kids once a month. And I did remember most of the words. -Joe Offer- |
Subject: Lyr Add: HURRY SUNDOWN (Robinson/Harburg) From: Bill Date: 17 Oct 97 - 02:21 AM Howdy Miranda, From the Peter, Paul and Mary site, I found that I was correct about "Hurry Sundown" being on their "Album" album. Here are the lyrics from that site (specifically at http://www.downeast.net/ppm/nppmalbum.html#song6). HURRY SUNDOWN (Robinson/Harburg) Northern Music Corp. ASCAP My seed is sown now, my field is plowed; My flesh is bone now, my back is bowed. CHORUS: So hurry, sundown, be on your way, And hurry me a sun-up from this beat-up sundown day. Hurry down, sundown, be on your way; Weave me tomorrow out of today. Tomorrow's breeze now, blows clear and loud; I'm off my knees now, I'm standing proud. CHORUS My sorrow's song, now, just must break through, That brave new dawn, now, long overdue. CHORUS Hurry down, sundown, get thee be gone, Get lost in the sunrise, of a new dawn. Hurry down, sundown, take the old day, Wrap it in new dreams, send it my way! Send it my way! Send it my way! I never sang that one with a Scout camp group or the other two. I do remember "Hurry Sundown," but I haven't heard of the others. Allinkausay, Bill

Subject: Spaceship, I Walked One Morning, Sundown From: Miranda Date: 16 Oct 97 - 08:20 PM I am searching for the lyrics to three songs that have stuck in my head for almost a decade that I learned at Girl Scout Camp. They were all folk songs, played on the guitar. The first one was called "Spaceship". I remember three parts of it, "In a space ship, over the mountain, chasing rainbows and setting stars..", part of the chorus, "How can I leave you again? I must be clear out of my mind, Lost in a storm, I've gone blind! Oh how can I leave you again?", and something about a "city of angels". The second song was called something like, "I Walked One Morning". Each verse, the singer says, "I walked one morning with my.." and parts about him walking with his friend and God, but there were others. Part of the lyrics are "and I thought the day would never end" and "and he turned all my [winters?] to spring". The third one was called "Sundown". I remember bits of the words, "get lost in the sun, of a new dawn", "take me away, wrap me in new dreams, send it my way". It begins with workers singing about how weary they are. If anyone knows the lyrics to these songs, I would truly appreciate a reply. They are so beautiful, and I want to know them better. Thanks! :) |
