Subject: RE: Doug R. Is A Saint! From: Bert Date: 18 May 01 - 12:23 AM Hi Kendall, I'm planning to be at the Getaway this year. I look forward to seeing you. Hey Doug, will you be able to make it too? |
Subject: RE: Doug R. Is A Saint! From: DougR Date: 17 May 01 - 11:09 PM Susan A-R, as long as it's not "what's for dinner," no problemo. I like to surprise my dinner guests. Do you like Eel, or have you caught up with the thread about eels? I have the recipe for Jellied Eel, but I have no access to eels. Of course I wouldn't touch eel with a stick myself anyway. I'll just surprise you! After all, I have a lot of time to plan a menu. DougR |
Subject: RE: Doug R. Is A Saint! From: Susan A-R Date: 17 May 01 - 10:32 PM Come February we'll negotiate. I'm sure we'll think of something. The password around here tends to be "when's dinner?" |
Subject: RE: Doug R. Is A Saint! From: JedMarum Date: 17 May 01 - 05:43 PM LOL - LEJ's comments reminded me of a story .... years aog a friend and I were having lunch, and discussing politics. One of his points-of-view prompted me to joke, "Gee, Jim you're a little conservative, aren't you?" To which my friend replied, "Conservative? Let's just say I place myself a little to the right of Pat Buchanan!" |
Subject: RE: Doug R. Is A Saint! From: DougR Date: 17 May 01 - 04:43 PM Oh. Sorry, Kendall. |

Subject: RE: Doug R. Is A Saint! From: Bert Date: 17 May 01 - 01:34 AM Kendall - a reasonable sort? - NOW I'm getting a little worried about you Doug. *GRIN* Heeehaw, I got both ovvem at once. Two of my favourite people. That doesn't happen too often. |
Subject: RE: Doug R. Is A Saint! From: DougR Date: 17 May 01 - 01:21 AM Susan A-R, I'm sure you and I can come to some mutually agreeable password. I may be conservative, but I ain't stupid! :>) Kendall, I'm shocked that you would even infer that possibility! You seem like such a reasonable sort (for a liberal). Thank you, bert, for your understanding and support. DougR |
Subject: RE: Doug R. Is A Saint! From: Bert Date: 17 May 01 - 12:44 AM Doug a Troll? OUR Doug? nah! He may be a conservative, but a troll? NEVER. (The word troll here is used generically and in no way refers to OUR Troll, whom we love dearly , even though he at times appears almost as coservative as OUR Doug) |
Subject: RE: Doug R. Is A Saint! From: kendall Date: 16 May 01 - 10:30 PM Is our Doug becoming a troll? |

Subject: RE: Doug R. Is A Saint! From: guinnesschik Date: 16 May 01 - 12:16 PM "We brought instruments" must be the password. "We have beer" might work as well, but we didn't try that one. |
Subject: RE: Doug R. Is A Saint! From: Big Mick Date: 16 May 01 - 11:52 AM Big Mick sits patiently beside the gullible Spaw, fairly breathless with anticipation, at the arrival of the blessed word. Breathless, when one is next to Spaw is a good thing, given the abnormally high bodily functions that erupt from him like clockwork. |
Subject: RE: Doug R. Is A Saint! From: catspaw49 Date: 16 May 01 - 11:28 AM "Okay," said the gullible Spaw, playing the straight man. He winced nervously with some trepidation and then asked, "Gee Doug, what IS the password?" With that he sat back and nervously awaited the answer. Spaw |

Subject: RE: Doug R. Is A Saint! From: Peter Kasin Date: 16 May 01 - 02:50 AM DougR, you put up with alot of politics you don't agree with here with grace and style, which most mudcatters, I think, recognise. You show yourself to be quite a man. Some of the more liberal to left people in my hometown could learn a thing or two about tolerance from you. Best, -chanteyranger |

Subject: RE: Doug R. Is A Saint! From: catspaw49 Date: 15 May 01 - 05:05 PM Ah PERFECT LEEJ!!! Makes me think too that the indoor mantel statuary should be sitting on a rhinestone encrusted catfish with a rusty banjo in it's mouth. Spaw |
Subject: RE: Doug R. Is A Saint! From: DougR Date: 15 May 01 - 05:04 PM Aw shucks. Thanks folks. I had a great time, and it was nice to be able to meet a couple of Mudcatters I hadn't met. Spaw, I like the idea of it bobbing around. Maybe at some point it could bob down into a bowl of Guinness or something. Rick, Bill Craig, I'm sure would be surprised at nothing you reported. DougR |
Subject: RE: Doug R. Is A Saint! From: Lonesome EJ Date: 15 May 01 - 04:59 PM I don't care if the windshield's buggy Long as I got my plastic Douggie Sittin on the dashboard of my car I don't care if I get kicked out the pub again Long as I got my magnetic Republican Sittin on the dashboard of my car |
Subject: RE: Doug R. Is A Saint! From: catspaw49 Date: 15 May 01 - 04:23 PM Hmmmm...........That helps some Leej. I'm beginning to see the Dashboard Statuary. Tall guy with a bit of a gut and a little apron (kinda' masonic like), with a George W. Bush Skimmer, a Mudcat T-Shirt, guitar over one shoulder, bodhran on the other, two whistles hanging from his belt (one a Low D), and he's eating a slice of Quiche. I think we definitely go with the "Glow-In-The-Dark" plastic and the velcro dash mount. What about the little spring thing so he bobs around? Think that's too much? We could go with both the Dash and Rear Window Models and of course the large, indoor, Mantel size. Whaddaya' think? Spaw |
Subject: RE: Doug R. Is A Saint! From: Lonesome EJ Date: 15 May 01 - 03:29 PM Well, that explains the classified ad in the Phoenix Sun... THANKS given to St Doug, Patron Saint of Quiche-eaters and Celtic Musicians, who has interceded on our behalf. We promise to say ten novenas a day until June 15th. Seriously, nice going, Doug!! |
Subject: RE: Doug R. Is A Saint! From: guinnesschik Date: 15 May 01 - 02:59 PM Gee, and I wasn't gonna tell anyone about that one! |
Subject: RE: Doug R. Is A Saint! From: JedMarum Date: 15 May 01 - 01:52 PM Doug's a great cook. He fed us well, in deed! I felt a bit like a college student only home for a quick weekend, uses the washer/dryer, eats all the food, says a quick hello and leaves a suddenly as he arrives! We had a lot of driving to do, and got into Phoenix just in time to take a quick shower, eat a fine bowl or Doug's Guinness Stew (well, some of us might have had two bowls), then we were off to Fiddler's Dream. Doug had invited a number of his friends for an after show party/meal and a bit of a jam. One of those friends was Todd Halliwell, who is truly a worldclass finger style guitarist - with a superb new Lowden. We had a great time trading tunes and swapping yarns - until there was almost no point in going to bed because we had to head out for Albuquerque. It was definately the highlight of the trip, Doug - certainly more fun then having the West Texas desert wind shred the tent from around me at 2AM! |

Subject: RE: Doug R. Is A Saint! From: JedMarum Date: 15 May 01 - 09:16 AM I think he may be a closet liberal, Kendall! Dittos Doug, what Karen said. Thanks very much for the hospitality and for introducing us to a number of fine AZ folks! Damn that quiche was good! |

Subject: Doug R. Is A Saint! From: guinnesschik Date: 15 May 01 - 08:25 AM I just thought everyone should know. Doug put us up as we travelled through Phoenix. The trip had been particularly rough through El Paso, resulting in the loss of a tent, loss of sleep and more red grit in everything than I've ever seen before. Doug fed us, gave us a place to sleep, and even planned a jam session for us. Durn, Doug...we shoulda stayed in Phoenix a little longer, instead of running off to Albuquerque. We had so much fun, and just can't think of enough nice things to say. Thanks so very much for making the trip so much more special.
