Anyone happen to know of Celtic instrumental music sessions (I play whistle), or general singing sessions, in the Richmond Va vicinity?

My mother moved back to her "River City" birthplace almost a year ago and I visit her frequently but so far I've only found a contra dance (good music, but males needed for balance) and a pub "Rare Old Times" that had an Irish-style band (which offered to let me sit in with them). Even the bluegrass "session" that I went to in the "Legend Brew Co." turnrd out to be a band performance.

At the "Games" last year a performer in a local celtic band told me that the Richmond session scene now is dead! Hope it's not true.

By the way, you guys forgot to mention the unique feature of these Games- the free Clydesdale ( or was it Percheron) powered people movers!

Cheers, Tyler

This sounds great! I'll try to come - we'll be in full catalog season so I might be drugging my kids so I can work all weekend through... but then again - large men throwing things? How could I miss this?

Susan, although we haven't received our contract back yet, we have verbal confirmation that we'll play both Saturday and Sunday. Additionally, Black 47's newsletter indicates they will also be playing at this festival on Sunday!

The venue is jammed up with the State Fair this week, so I guess more definitive info on schedule and performers will not be available until next week.

But Black 47! Man! And I figured some of the other 'Catters may have an interest in the fiddle and harp info.

OK, the above-referenced site now has info on how to register for the various competitions (including fiddle and harp).

Entertainment info to come. Last year there was Seven Nations as well as Tom Lori and others.

We always got a kick out of the commercial for this event: "Large men throwing things" Thanks. Sharon from Richmond

Not too early to get this one on your calendar. I'm sure the website will become more informative as you get closer.

Check it out

This is a fairly large festival and one we always enjoy. Generally, October in Virginia is not too cold.

Ed
