Subject: RE: BS: Whats your theme tune? From: Mooh Date: 05 Oct 01 - 08:21 AM Phil, John Renbourn was quite the entertainment, a real smooth player with some surprising twists and turns. Fun in the pub afterwards too, though I couldn't stay long (I get up at 4 am). He asked me to play for him at the workshop, which was pretty un-nerving, but he was so gracious and generous. There's much to learn from the likes of John about the folk ethic. He's had an interesting life so far, I hope someone writes about it. Mooh. |
Subject: RE: BS: Whats your theme tune? From: Phil Cooper Date: 04 Oct 01 - 06:36 PM Mooh, have always enjoyed the times I've seen John Renbourn. He stayed at a friend's house in Cleveland and cajolled a copy of our very first tape from her because he liked some song we played on it. Always found that flattering. To get back to theme related songs. Was thinking of John playing "Great Dreams from Heaven" today while hanging around work. I don't think that one's on the website to hand out either. This is a good thread for all of us who have tunes going through our heads all the time. Beats voices. |
Subject: RE: BS: Whats your theme tune? From: Benjamin Date: 04 Oct 01 - 05:40 PM That's an amazing conincidence Firecat. That song discribes you perfectly! Doesn't it! I'm still trying to find the connection with Allstar and myself. All that gliters is gold! Only shooting stars break the mold I guess that could be me! That song bugged me back in 99 though. |
Subject: RE: BS: Whats your theme tune? From: Mooh Date: 04 Oct 01 - 09:23 AM Phil/Art...Saw (and heard!) John Renbourn here two weeks ago. Amazing. You would have enjoyed the show. Mike. |
Subject: RE: BS: Whats your theme tune? From: Bert Date: 03 Oct 01 - 07:39 PM Hey Kendal, Most of the categories didn't have an applicable answer for me but I played along anyway and just chose the best from what they had. So don't be an old grouch, go back and do your best just for the fun of it. For what it's worth they chose "Born to be Wild" for me, when everyone at Mudcat knows that my theme song is "Size Doesn't Matter" |
Subject: RE: BS: Whats your theme tune? From: Phil Cooper Date: 03 Oct 01 - 07:27 PM On second thought, my Thieme tunes would have to be "Walkee in the Parlor" or your version of "Death of Robin Hood." And the Grossman/Renbourn CD arrived today. Thanks, looking forward to hearing it. |
Subject: RE: BS: Whats your theme tune? From: Phil Cooper Date: 03 Oct 01 - 07:25 PM Well, Art, as stated above, everyone should have a Thieme song. I don't think "I Feel Good" works as my theme song either. |
Subject: RE: BS: Whats your theme tune? From: Art Thieme Date: 03 Oct 01 - 06:56 PM Mike Crocker, That's strange------but maybe not. I just sent Phil a CD 'cause I thought he might enjoy it. John Renbourn and Stefan Grossman. Some kind o' karma, huh? Phil is a wonderful guitarist !! And I really enjoy Kate Early's voice with his and Margaret N. By the way, thanks for your comments on that CD. Art |

Subject: RE: BS: Whats your theme tune? From: Bat Goddess Date: 03 Oct 01 - 10:03 AM I guess "Aunt Clara" by default -- I didn't choose it; it chose me. Do I get to have a roving band of folkies following me around and playing incidental music at whim and "Aunt Clara" when I enter a room? (Well, I did once have an impromptu accompaniment by the "Clara-nettes" on Slinkies . . .) Bat Goddess |
Subject: RE: BS: Whats your theme tune? From: GUEST,Celtic Soul Date: 03 Oct 01 - 09:58 AM :::giggle!!::: "Walking On Sunshine" here too! Man, but they don't know me in the least! ;D If I chose my own, it would be "Fortress" by Sting. That's my current mantra anyway. For years, it would have been "Black Soul Sun" (I think that's the name???) or "Synchronicity 2". I was a dark lass for a looooong time. :D |
Subject: RE: BS: Whats your theme tune? From: Grab Date: 03 Oct 01 - 08:57 AM "Back in black" again. I reckon they've got maybe 2-3 from each category (80s, rock, hip-hop, top-40). I wouldn't mind, except AC/DC bore me (now a good bit of late-80's Maiden, and we're talking...). So where's the singer-songwriter stuff, folk, blues, show-tunes, classical? Ah well. Graham.

Subject: RE: BS: Whats your theme tune? From: Mooh Date: 03 Oct 01 - 08:44 AM Art, that's funny. Btw, Phil Cooper gave me a cd of yours as a thank you gift and I'm enjoying it very much. It's so cool when something unfamiliar becomes something I really enjoy. Peace, Mike Crocker. |

Subject: RE: BS: Whats your theme tune? From: Phil Cooper Date: 02 Oct 01 - 06:09 PM Mine was "I Feel Good." My real theme songs change with circumstance. Before I got involved with my significant other of the last twelve years, I was involved with someone else. In that era, at the beginning, the theme song going through my head was Stan Rogers "45 Years. " By the end of two years (with her having problems with my travelling playing music with my singing partner of the past 19 years, and other emotional ups and downs, of which I tried to understand but nothing seemed to help) the theme song running through my head was Richard Thompson's "Walking on a Wire." Now, the theme songs seem to be songs I'm thinking we ought to work up. |
Subject: RE: BS: Whats your theme tune? From: Jeanie Date: 02 Oct 01 - 05:45 PM I got "Walking on Sunshine", too - they suggested I "dance along the vegetable aisle pushing my shopping cart" then directed me to a website where I could buy "Maryjane" shoes for that very purpose. What on earth are Maryjane shoes ? Would they be suitable for Sainsbury's ? As I usually feel more like I'm "Fumbling through Thick Fog" long before I reach the checkout, perhaps the Maryjanes will make all the difference ? - Ever hopefully, Jeanie |
Subject: RE: BS: Whats your theme tune? From: Little Hawk Date: 02 Oct 01 - 04:31 PM LOL!!! You sound like Blind Drunk in Blind River, Lepus! What an awful fate! We're talking MAJOR ASSHOLE here!!! My theme tune used to be "Just Like A Woman". Why? I just liked it, that's all. At this point I don't think I have a theme song anymore... Life is just way too big to be labelled with any one theme song. - LH |
Subject: RE: BS: Whats your theme tune? From: Lepus Rex Date: 02 Oct 01 - 04:18 PM Back in Black? Eh, ok... Let's see. "You're a hard-core guy who knows what he wants and intends to get it. That's why your theme song is "Back in Black." Whether you're pumping iron, shooting pick-up hoops, or rounding up the boys for a night of havoc, AC/DC's metal classic is the perfect tune to get you fired up and blow your speakers out in the process. Your friends might think you're a little reckless sometimes, but you know where the limit is. If you're the loudest one in the room, or spill someone's drink with a fearless air guitar, it's nothing to be ashamed of. What's fun without a little mayhem thrown into the mix? So grab something leather, play drums on your desk, and yell at the moon. You've got some hell to raise and head banging to do. Let "Back in Black" accompany you to the edge and back." My God. I'm an asshole and all, but not THAT kind of asshole... ---Lepus Rex |
