Mariposa in the Schools is having a Benefit this coming Sunday (Jan. 13) at 7:30 pm. Tix= $20 (Can). Headlining is the Original Sloth Band, as well as other fine artists (details below). Part of the Flying Cloud schedule at the TRANZAC, Toronto, Ontario (292 Brunswick Ave)

Join us for a super concert to benefit Mariposa In The Schools, an organization bringing traditional music to schools, libraries, & community venues for over 30 years. Performers include the ever popular & elusive Original Sloth Band, Njacko Backo, Muhtadi, Ian Bell, Anne Lederman, Andrea Haddad, & Kathy Reid-Naiman. There will be a raffle, auction &lots of singing as we support this wonderful program. The Original Sloth Band, comprised of Chris and Ken Whiteley, Tom Evans, Tom Gardiner and Bucky Berger, have been performing blues, swing, and a multiplicity of roots styles since 1965. Cameroon born Njacko Backo is a percussionist, kalimba master, singer/storyteller, and dancer/choreographer whose enthusiasm and joy infuses each performance. Muhtadi is a Trinidadian born master drummer and percussionist whose love of Calypso and steel drum music is readily apparent. Ian Bell is a singer, instrumentalist and storyteller whose performances reflect his love and knowledge of grassroots musical traditions of rural Ontario. Anne Lederman is a master fiddler, singer, and multi-instrumentalist who enjoys sharing a vast array or musical traditions from around the world including, French-Canadian, Metis, Eastern European, Gaelic, and more. Andrea Haddad sings and plays from the Francophone traditions of France, Quebec, and Switzerland and accompanies herself on the hurdy gurdy, and the epinette des Vosges. Kathy Reid-Naiman is a singer and multi-instrumentalist who delights in presenting songs from a variety of North American and British folk traditions and is well known for her performance and organization of the Winter Solstice celebrations at the TRANZAC.
