STATESIDE
Well the Japanese moon is bright tonight and Tokyo is full of life.
In and out the honky-tonks but nothing's there I really want.
The geisha girls don't understand the lonely life of a service man.
I've heard say a man don't cry, but I can't keep my blue eyes dry.

Subject: Stateside From: Les B Date: 07 Jul 02 - 11:31 PM Last night I played with group of friends for a group of older folks. When asked for a patriotic song, one the guys pulled this song out of his head -- I'd never heard it before, but it was pretty good. The sitution wasn't right to get him to write it down. "Stateside" -- about a soldier wanting to get back home. From some of the lyrics, which I can't remember in detail, it was probably written during the Korean War. It had lines about Japan and a geisha girl. Sort of country, or country blues. He also indicated it may have been popular during the Viet Nam era. Anyone out there have a clue about who, what, when ? I've searched Digitrad and Cowpie and done a brief spin on Google. No luck. |
