Yeah, Amos. That's right. I figured out pretty early as a small child that the Santa thing couldn't possibly be true, but most of my friends still believed it. So...I went to ask my mother about it. She explained that, no, it wasn't actually literally true, but it was a nice thing like a fairy story, made up so that kids could have more fun at Christmas. I was quite satisfied with that explanation, which did make sense, and I left my friends to believe as they chose about it.

It's as you say, a half-barbaric and half-mad world, but you can get through fine if you have a good sense of humour about it.

Did you have to remind us, I always try to forget Christmas and just celebrate the new year its much more fun then.
The shops all want C----- to come so that they can fleece the gullible and unwary shopper,all the proper meaning has long goneand it is now a time for the moneymakers who could not care what it really is all about.

Imagine a religion where there is this superhuman character in a red suit, with a long white beard, who lives at the North Pole, and he works once a year, flying a sled pulled by reindeer through the sky, and giving presents to everybody by climbing down their chimney...

Yeah, right!

Then cross it and mix it up hopelessly with another religion about a man who got crucified 2,000 years ago, and is supposedly the one and only Son of God.

Now underpin those two religions with equal parts of GREED, SIN, and unearned GUILT.

Now tie the first religion inextricably to the economy, and make it the most important money-making event of the year.

Now teach it to your kids, and see what happens to them psychologically.

Talk about a recipe for self-delusion, confusion, and disaster...

On the other hand, if you don't include your kids, they will feel left out. What a pickle we have gotten ourselves in!

Wes, if I wasn't so fond of you, I'd tell you to shut up as well.....hah bumhug!!! Actually we have a rule in our house that says you aren't even allowed to talk about the C-thing until after Fiona's birthday which is the 26th November ( 21 this year, can you believe it!!!)....so I can postpone my anxiety attack until then at least.

I always seem to have the best of intentions......and never get it done until the last minute. Bad,because I hate crowds too.......However, I did get a pakcg. off ot London today......never mind who it is for........LOL Wasnt' for MIcca, though.

I Hate shopping,but I hate mail order worse. I am never done until the afetrnoon of the 24th.........and I hate that too. I guess I will just never get my PhD in Shopping.............

Manitas tried that one year and lost everything because we put it away safely. Ended up buying whole new stuff.

I hate buying something for a present and then deciding who gets it... I like to try and find something they might actually want or find useful.

I do buy decorations and things on the cheap when they sell them off in August... then I butcher them and make something else.

Don't hate me because I'm pretty. Hate me because I buy everything on sale starting the day after Christmas. I am usually finished with my shopping by mid to late summer. I HATE crowds and I refuse to go shopping after Thansgiving unless it is early in the morning and we leave by noon. I keep presents in a present closet along with wrap that I got on sale last year and the year before. It doesn't spoil or go bad. I also HATE standing in line to pay for my purchases. You want my money let me spend it and get out of my way!

At least this is a fair warning and not just plain disgusting, like the girl in our office who wanted to put the Christmas decorations up at Hallowe'en. She got short shrift on our desk because I refuse to put anything up before the 14th Dec, 3 don't celebrate Christmas (they celebrate Diwali and Kwaanza) and the other has taste.

Got a few things but I really need to pull my finger out and get more shopping done. Having problems coming up with ideas for my bloke....he just gives me a long list of DVD's......I bought him one for his birthday that he hinted for for 2 months and he hasn't watched it yet....however LtS and I had a girlie night with a bottle of wine, bombay ,mix, 3 cats and the said DVD!!! (He knows about it too)

I want to come up with something different so if anyone has any ideas...let me know.....

I do much of my Christmas shopping in July and August - the rest usually on the 23rd and 24rth...

I have to start keeping track of "shopping days" soon - I use it as part of my characters foibles for the Dickon's show starting 11/29.
