Sorry Joe (I read there might be, instead of might there be, I cross up once & awhile), I thought you knew of a singing session I hadn't heard about. There are sessions this weekend, there just not singing sessions. You could try the South Shore Folk Music Club in Kingston 508-871-1052 or the Woods Hole Folk Music Soc. 978-540-0320, both are fairly close to where you're at. At Matt Murphy's in Brookline Village on Sat around 6:00 pm you'll find a session that's favorable towards singers you might also find Liam's Brother (Dan) there this weekend he's also visiting the area. If I'd known ahead of time there were going to be a few mudcatters around I'd have opened up the house for a kitchen party. If any others plan on visiting the area in the future an advance call might give rise to a possible get together with some of the other local cats. Hoping both Joe & Dan had a nice visit in the land of the Pilgrim (not talking about John Wayne country). Barry

Well, Barry, I'm here in the land of the Pilgrims this weekend, five miles north of Plymouth, and I was hoping there was a song circle or chantey sing or something where I might be able to sing with a group for an evening. Guess I'll have to wait until I get home next week. Maybe Massachusetts doesn't want to hear me sing. Well, I sang in church last Sunday. They're not gonna stop me there.

I know it's a holiday and all, but might there be a song circle or a chantey sing or something on the south shore of Boston this Thanksgiving weekend?

I remember seeing an events listing at Ceolas, which seems to me a better format for this sort of information.

If you're in Scotland: "Roots and Shoots" festival will be in Edinburgh 20-22 Nov, and the following weekend (27-29 Nov) there will be a fiddle festival at the Assembly Rooms in Edinburgh, organised I think by the Adult Learning Project. There's also an Irish set-dance workshop in Edinburgh, 28 Nov, organised by Linda Harkness. And the same weekend there will be a sets workshop in Derry, Northern Ireland. I imagine you can get details from "Set Dance News" which is on-line and has a link from the Ceolas site.

Hi, Barbara..

We came close to getting to see this show - sounds like a good'un. Only 90 minutes away, so I guess it's not the last chance.

I talked with Phil a few years ago when ordering his children's song tape (at least one of them) for my niece, and it's a very enjoyable album. As for The Seldom Scene, what more can be said?

Maybe next time.....Tiger

Nov 9 - Andy Stewart and Gerry O'Beirne at Paint Branch UU Church in Silver Spring, Maryland. My husband's out of town and the regular baby-sitter doesn't work on school nights, so I won't be there (sigh) but it should be a great time.

Not quite November, but on Saturday, October 31, Pop Wagner and lots of good local talent will be at the Ozark Folk Center in Mountain View, Arkansas. This weekend is also Bean Fest and the Great Arkansas Championship Outhouse Race. (must be seen to be believed!) There will also be virtually non-stop music On The Square In Mountain View.

While the evening concerts at the Folk Center always include a good variety of excellent local musicians, one local who is quite well known, cowboy singer Glenn Ohrlin, is on the schedule for November 3. The last regular concert of the year will be November 5.

Also coming up are the SPBGMA National Fiddlers Convention & Championships November 6-8, and The Third Annual Cowboy Music & Poetry Gathering November 13-14. Special guests will be SKY SHIVERS, STEVE SCHICK, PERRY WILLIAMS, PRICKLY PAIR, CHUCK MILNER, AND MORE.

Thanksgiving in the Ozarks, November 26-28~~Guest Craft Folk, Free crafts admission, concerts each night.

This is a good idea, Bert, I know I will likely get no further than MtV this month, but it will be fun to dream.

I'm producing a FREE concert at the Blackstone Library in Branford, CT, on Wednesday, Nov 4, at 7:30 p.m. featuring:

Phil Rosenthal (formerly of Seldom Scene) on mandolin, banjo and guitar, Jim Sirch on Irish whistle, and Judy Kodaras on flute and piano.

It's a "Showcase of Music Teachers" sponsored by the Musical Arts Society. Come on by, if you're in the area.
