Jeff Titon's Old-Time Kentucky Fiddle Tunes (2001) does have a number of Art Stamper's tunes in it (written out in standard notation) but unfortunately not Old Horse and Buggy. Goodbye Girls, I'm Going to Boston, Chinquapin Hunting, Brushy Fork of John's Creek are three that I recognize. Others from his father, Hiram, are also included. The book is published by The University Press of Kentucky and includes a CD with some of the tunes from the book.

Connie,

Art Stamper recorded Old Horse and Buggy on his Goodbye Girls, I'm Going to Boston CD: County CO-CD-2729. He's backed by John Hermann, Meredith McIntosh and Dirk Powell. There are a bunch of great tunes on it, each with the fiddle and banjo tunings included in the notes.

A couple of years back, Art came to Clifftop (WVa) and gave a great workshop.

Thanks, that is what I thought. Art was here last Spring and I took his workshop. (Ozark Folk Center) Mountain View,AR. He taught this tune, but I didn't retain it, but I have a midi of it and can learn it by ear. I love the old time cross-tuned tunes. We work at the Folk Center during the season and this time of year is the time to learn new stuff. No, never been to Clifftop.

I'm guessing, but I doubt that sheet music for it exists, because it is relatively "new" to the canon of old-time fiddle tunes, that is, Art Stamper's recording of it comes after the publication of transcribed fiddle tune books like the Fiddler's Fake Book. And since he got it from his father, Hiram Stamper, it is quite old and apparently not widely known. My wife learned it a while back, but that was by ear.

It is a great tune. Do you go to Clifftop?

I would love to find the sheet music for the Art Stampler fiddle tune "old Horse & Buggy". It is in cross tuneing of AEAE. Any help would be appreciated.
