Here is Tom's bio that he sent:

"For over three decades, Tom Goux has been collecting and performing chanteys, ballads and ditties of the New England seafarer. A resident of Cape Cod, he has made a specialty of the songs and poetry of the Yankee mariner, bringing to life the salty sentiments of deep-water mariners, intrepid whalermen and coastal fisherfolk. Accompanied by concertina, guitar ukulele and tiple, his selections span three centuries of music and verse commemorating the American maritime epoch.

A partial listing of his performance credits includes the Sea music Festival at Mystic Seaport, the American Museum of Natural History in New York, the Smithsonian Institution, the Peabody Essex Museum, Salem, the New Bedford Whaling Museum, and the Galveston Historical Society. On the Pacific coast he has given concerts at the Columbia River Maritime Museum, at San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park, the Ventura County Maritime Museum and the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History. He has recoded on the Smithsonian Folkways and Whaling City Sound labels and for several PBS projects.

In addition to his solo performances, he is leader of the New England chantey trio known as the Rum Soaked Crooks, well known to festival audiences throughout the region, and is the founding director of the 35-voice New Bedford Harbor Sea Chantey Chorus, now in its fifth season.

Maritime singer Tom Goux, from Cape Cod, Massachusetts, will be performing a concert aboard the square-rigger Balclutha at Hyde Street Pier, in San Francisco, on Saturday, August 6, at 2pm. Admission: $5.00 standard ships admission, available at the pier's fee booth. No advance tickets.

Those of you on the East coast probably know Tom well from his appearances at the Mystic Seaport Sea Music Festival, New Bedford Whaling Museum, and other venues. This is a rare treat for those of us on the West coast.

The concert is hosted by San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park. For more information, call the ranger office at 415-556-6435.
