The man, regardless of his tonal quality, can turn a phrase, voice a lyric, as well as anyone who has ever stood in front of a mic. He is in fact touring and is coming to my town (Grand Rapids, Michigan) in mid-February. I am looking forward to the concert, and will give you all a review.

All the best,

Mick

If you'r interested & In case you missed it...Last year Dylan sang with Ralph Stanley (the greatest singer still living in many peoples opinion), on a new CD by the Clinch Mountain Boys as well as 37 other singing greats in duet style with Ralph. 1998's top CD release may well hold that title for many years to come. Whatever motorcycle part hit Bob in the throat during his great wreck some years ago didn't seem to hurt his vocal style. I had played with "never sober" Bob back in 60-61 in the Village night spots before his vocal style was accepted and still use one of his old "harps" (mine) to tune my Martin to "Gee Flat". Bob lives nearby here but keeps a mighty low profile. He is far from dead tho and his music will certainly live forever...like it or not. I still remember the night he walked into Gerds Folk City with his first recording ...we were all agast. He's the champion of all who persue their dreams. He did it the hard way. Can't tell you how many want my old Marine Band Gee Flat harp.

Speaking of Bob Dylan's recent health problems, I received for Christmas the book "Magical Mushrooms, Mischievous Molds: The remarkable story of the fungus kingdom and its impact on human affairs" by George Hudler (1998 Princeton University Press) that contained the following which I quote:

"...singer/ songwriter Bob Dylan was overcome with a hacking cough, chest pains, and general lethargy. Puzzled over the cause of his ill health and frustrated by its intrusion into his busy schedule, he sought the advice of a physician. She also was unable to make a positive diagnosis without ordering a battery of laboratory tests and consulting with other specialists. Meanwhile, Dylan's health deteriorated, his heart began to fail, and he was confined to the intensive care unit of a hospital. The answer to the famed musician's problems, it turned out, was blowin' in the wind, for he had contracted a potentially fatal fungus disease by inhaling airborne spores. After several months of convalescence, he recovered, with long overdue respect for the power of the fungi that lurk in every nook and cranny of the world around us.... a serious case of histoplasmosis...caused inflammation of the sac around his heart."

Hi, JH. There have been rumors of life-threatening illnesses, but no reports of death. It appears that Bob Dylan is still alive and kicking.
