Subject: RE: Soup Kitchen - Nov 13 on Mountain Stage From: Nancy King Date: 11 Nov 05 - 02:16 PM Sounds wonderful! Wish I could hear it, but I can't see that Mountain Stage is on any D.C. area stations. Please correct me if I'm wrong! Break a leg, Bill, Becky and Will! Nancy |
Subject: Soup Kitchen - Nov 13 on Mountain Stage From: Ferrara Date: 11 Nov 05 - 02:09 PM Becky Kimmons of Soup Kitchen just sent this via e-mail. If you don't know them, (or even if you do), Soup Kitchen is Becky and Bill Kimmons of Charleston, WV, and Will Fanning of Mingo, WV. Three terrific voices, who sing unaccompanied gospel, blues, Becky's own songs, and trad with wonderful harmonies. Charlie Baum met them at the West Virginia Folk Festival and invited them to our FSGW Getaway where they were a smash hit. Take a listen if you can. From Becky: We're going to sing on Mountain Stage, West Virginia Public Radio's internationally syndicated music show, live at Tamarack, this Sunday, November 13, and I thought you might like to know about it. The show is carried on about 120 stations across the nation and in western Europe, so check www.mountainstage.org to find out if, where and when you can tune in. We don't know yet what the air date will be, but it will be some time before Christmas. Tickets for the live show are available only through Tamarack, $15.50 in advance (tollfree 888-262-7225), or $20.00 at the door. Tamarack is West Virginia's arts and crafts super-emporium on I-77/64 near Beckley. The doors open at 5:30 p.m.; show starts at 6 p.m. We're sharing the bill with Ralph Stanley and the Clinch Mountain Boys, Robin and Linda Williams, a neo-bluegrass band called Crooked Still out of Boston, and our friends Bob Webb and Heidi Muller from here in Charleston. (Bob was in the original Mountain Stage band many years ago, and played with several bands, including Stark Raven. He also engineered our May, 2004 CD "Bare There Were They.") We'll be doing four songs. The list will definitely include two Lotus Dickey songs, probably one real old-time gospel song, and a holiday version of "Children Go Where I Send Thee." .... When you go to www.soupkitchensings.com, you may be wondering why we don't make ordering the CDs easy. Well, I'm finally working on that! I'll be lined up with CDBaby soon, and I'm working on some sort of downloadable deal too. ... Thanks, Becky Kimmons |
