Subject: RE: Remember Robin Hall tonight From: Surreysinger Date: 22 Nov 05 - 11:59 AM The spaghetti tree April Fool's Day spoof was on a Panorama programme with Richard Dimbleby - not Tonight ..... but still emininently quotable! (:-) |
Subject: RE: Remember Robin Hall tonight From: GUEST,Hen Harrier Date: 21 Nov 05 - 08:51 PM Forgot to mention Macdonald Hastings and Alan Whicker ("Tonight" programme on the old b & w BBC1), the latter subsequently becoming quite a star in his own right. These were great days, the spaghetti tree April Fool's Day spoof is still often quoted! |
Subject: RE: Remember Robin Hall tonight From: GUEST,Sharon Date: 21 Nov 05 - 12:27 PM Robina Hall was a lovley man. I had the pleasure of meeting him when I was wee. He was always a flamboyant dresser ! |
Subject: RE: Remember Robin Hall tonight From: Tam the man Date: 21 Nov 05 - 09:44 AM I can't remmeber Robin and Jimmie on Televison together, hwoever I have some of their records. Tam |
Subject: RE: Remember Robin Hall tonight From: dermod in salisbury Date: 21 Nov 05 - 08:22 AM Robin Hall used to turn up regularly and occasionally sing at the Loft coffee bar in Hampstead (a place the size of a shoe box that rings bells with more than a few folksingers)circa 1960. He was already making records then and was very upbeat and talkative. Shortly afterwards, he had his big UK television success with Jimmy McGregor. The great thing about Scottish singers, then as now, is that no distance existed between them and their listeners. You listened, you met, you talked, you became acquainted. Things are still pretty much that way in the world of traditional music, I think, although I am no longer in close touch. |
Subject: RE: Remember Robin Hall tonight From: GUEST Date: 21 Nov 05 - 07:59 AM Well, I did hear them (Robin & Jimmy) live, at the Star in Guildford back in the 1970's. They were excellent, but could he talk ... !! |
Subject: RE: Remember Robin Hall tonight From: GUEST,cookieless Genie Date: 21 Nov 05 - 04:45 AM My Robin Hall & Jimmie McGregor LP was a gift from a boyfriend back about 1963-4 and has been a treasured part of my audio collection ever since. I lent the record to the guys who became the band "Darby O'Gill" here in Portland, way back, and they seemed to make very good use of it before I eventually got it back. I was so sad, not long after I found Mudcat in 2001, to read a thread about "the late Robin Hall." I would love to have heard him in live concert. Genie |
Subject: RE: Remember Robin Hall tonight From: GUEST,hen harrier Date: 20 Nov 05 - 10:21 AM That seems to ring a bell! |
Subject: RE: Remember Robin Hall tonight From: Compton Date: 19 Nov 05 - 08:14 PM Didn't they have a hit of sorts with "Footba' Crazy"? |
Subject: RE: Remember Robin Hall tonight From: Effsee Date: 18 Nov 05 - 09:48 PM Is it really 7 years? Stop the world I want to get off! Robin's Bleacher Lass O' Kelvinhaugh will live on as his testament forever. |
Subject: RE: Remember Robin Hall tonight From: GUEST,hen harrier Date: 18 Nov 05 - 09:20 PM I didn't realise either. Many fond memories of him and Jimmy on "Tonight" (Cliff Michelmore, Derek Hart, Fyfe Robertson, Slim Hewitt, Chris Brasher etc). God rest his soul. |
Subject: RE: Remember Robin Hall tonight From: GUEST Date: 18 Nov 05 - 07:26 PM Yes, I remember him with Jimmie McGregor on 'Tonight' - and recently in a charity shop I bought an LP by them - signed. But I didn't realise that he had died. I have come across people whose main entertainment seems to be reading obituaries. I just come across them by chance. |
Subject: RE: Remember Robin Hall tonight From: Deckman Date: 18 Nov 05 - 07:24 PM Same here. I well remeber, quite fondly, the record he put out with Jimmy McGregor (sp?). Bob(deckman)Nelson, here in the U.S.A. |
Subject: RE: Remember Robin Hall tonight From: Anglo Date: 18 Nov 05 - 06:10 PM Oh yes, we remember him. See the current thread on The Galliards. Not much to say though, really. But I'll certainly have a drink to his memory. |
Subject: RE: Remember Robin Hall tonight From: GUEST,JP Date: 18 Nov 05 - 04:37 PM Didn't anyone remember him? |
