Try Mansons guitars in Exeter, Devon. It blew my mind, especially when I saw an acoustic Gibson (I have no idea what model) for over £5500!!

Wassail!! Chris.....(Using Pixies puter)

Tryin' again on this post-wondered how the climate control in this guitar place was (if you could even tell); also the guy with the Stella with the steel reinforced neck-assumin' Ebay is where theyre getting close to 100clams for them as it seems no store would give you that on a trade or something.

Quite a store-don't think Ive seen anything quite like it outside of a city like NY or Philly. WIth all the wood a fire (well it IS Chicago) would be heartbreaking. Hows their climate control, like humidity etc. maintained? With all those vintage axes hanging around I'd hate to think it was like some fancy Guitar Center-you ever been to one of THOSE? Man they let their guitars get all crusty and cracked and dinged and sell em for new. Anyhows, nice tip MG. Next time I get near the Windy City may have to take a side trip. See any 018t's there????

So one could reserve a room at the Al Capone Hotel, consume one of them outrageous Chicago sausage on a bun creations, marvel at the White Sox world chamionship, get blown into a canal, and also see some fine vintage guitars. Too bad they don't have any S. S. Stewart banjos.

Cheerily,
Charley Noble

Aww Martin, what the hell did you have to go and do that for?

And just when I was starting to accumulate some retirement money, too. I'll be down in Chicago in mid-February, and if I come home to my wife with another guitar, sex on the internet will be the only kind available to me for a long time.

Actually, it looks like an awesome place. Can't wait.
Thanks for the "heads up."

Anglo, what's on the web site is a fraction of what is in the store. Sort of like comparing life on a web forum to life in the real world. Sex is another good example of this analogy.

Looks fantastic. Speaking as a Brit' the prices don't seem too outrageous, considering the collectability of some of those old vintage beauties!

Very interesting ...but I look at the webpage and I see a grand total of 28 acoustic guitars. More electric and basses, of course, but not that many more. Has it become so popular they've sold so many others so quickly? Next time I'm in Chicago?...

No, a one of a kind store. The kind only a big city can support. Imagine having such a selection to choose from? Just walking in was like eye candy.

I went today to the new home of The Chicago Music Exchange which has just opened up in it's new location. Wow! The largest selection of new and used/vintage I have ever seen. I didn't ask how many instruments were being displayed but my guess is somewhere between 1200 and 1500 instruments. All done up like an art gallery with crystal chandeliers, new hardwood floors and new hardwood hanging racks floor to ceiling with beautiful axes, acoustic and electric. The staff was friendly and zero pressure and let me try various old, what else, Gibsons and Martins.

If you ever come to Chicago, just seeing this place is amazing.
